An administrator can request individual or bulk shipments, or invite employees to choose an eligible key form factor and enter their own delivery details in Yubico’s Customer Portal. IT retains order, inventory, tracking and reporting visibility, but the service does not by itself make authentication enrollment, device compatibility or account recovery effortless.
What Yubico announced
BetaNews reported on January 27, 2026 that Yubico added employee self-service ordering to YubiKey as a Service. Instead of collecting every employee’s address and placing every order, an administrator sends invitations. Each invited employee selects an available YubiKey form factor and supplies shipping information through the Customer Portal.
The change targets a specific operational bottleneck: getting the right physical key to the right person. It should be understood as a fulfillment workflow, not as a replacement for planning the identity rollout, registering keys or supporting users who lose them.
How a company can distribute keys
Administrator-managed shipments
IT staff can request shipments for individual users or upload bulk shipment requests. This approach keeps address collection and ordering inside the administrative process. It can suit organizations that already maintain reliable employee location data or need tight control over shipment timing.

Invited employee self-service
With self-service, administrators invite selected employees to order through the Customer Portal. Users choose from the form factors made available to them and enter a residential or office address. This moves repetitive data entry out of the IT queue while leaving administrators able to monitor the resulting orders.
Portal and API workflows
The portal provides order and inventory visibility, shipment tracking and reports. Yubico also describes API integration and bulk shipment uploads, allowing a company to connect delivery requests with internal provisioning or workforce systems. The exact integration work remains an implementation decision for each organization.

What Delivery includes
| Capability | What the service description says | Operational question for IT |
|---|---|---|
| Shipment requests | Individual and bulk requests, including bulk uploads | Who is authorized to create, approve and cancel requests? |
| Employee self-ordering | Invited users select a form factor and provide delivery details | How will invitations be issued, expire and be re-sent? |
| Visibility | Order and inventory views, tracking and reports in the Customer Portal | Which status data must be exported to the identity or asset system? |
| Automation | API integration is offered | Will your workflow use an API, portal actions or both? |
| Destinations | Yubico reports support for 199 locations: 175 countries and 24 territories | Confirm the exact destination and account eligibility before launch. |
The 199-location figure is Yubico’s stated coverage, not an independent measurement of delivery speed or success. Yubico specifically says self-service ordering is available for organizations with users across the United States, Canada and Europe; a company should verify particular destinations with Yubico.
Choosing the right YubiKey before inviting users
Self-service does not remove the need for a hardware decision. Yubico says organizations can select form factors according to device type and user preference. A key with USB-C may not be suitable for a user whose systems expose only USB-A ports, while a key with NFC may be useful for compatible phones but irrelevant to a desktop-only workflow.

Build a compatibility checklist
- Record the ports available on managed laptops, desktops, tablets and phones.
- Identify whether users need USB, NFC or another supported connection method.
- Check shared-workstation, thin-client and mobile scenarios separately.
- Decide whether a single standard model or a controlled set of models is easier to support.
- Explain to employees which choice is compatible before opening self-ordering.
YubiKey as a Service is an enterprise arrangement, distinct from buying one key through a retailer. The delivery process can distribute hardware, but an organization still needs policies for spare keys, lost devices, replacements and offboarding.
Delivery is not enrollment
Receiving a key and associating it with an employee’s accounts are separate deployment steps. On March 23, 2026, Yubico announced expanded Enrollment services for Microsoft and Ping Identity environments, including in-field enrollment. The announcement described its Android Enroll app as being in Limited Early Access at that time; that status should not be treated as general availability.

Before rollout, define how users register a delivered key, how administrators verify completion and what happens when a user cannot enroll. Delivery can shorten the logistics queue, but it does not establish those identity and support procedures.
A practical rollout sequence
- Inventory the user environments. Map device ports, mobile use, identity providers and geographic destinations.
- Select permitted form factors. Publish a compatibility rule for each user group rather than presenting every model as interchangeable.
- Choose the fulfillment mode. Use administrator-managed requests where centralized control is essential; use invitations where employees can safely provide their own address.
- Configure the workflow. Decide whether staff will operate in the Customer Portal, submit bulk files, call APIs or combine these methods.
- Run a controlled pilot. Test invitation delivery, address entry, shipment tracking, enrollment and replacement handling with representative users.
- Monitor the rollout. Use portal inventory, order status, tracking and reports to identify unclaimed invitations, delivery exceptions and users who have not enrolled.
- Document recovery. Provide a spare-key policy and a support path for lost, damaged or incompatible keys.
What customer examples show—and do not show
Yubico’s Delivery page quotes Daniel Jacobson, Senior Director of IT at Datadog, saying Datadog used APIs to programmatically order and ship keys globally and that the service streamlined logistics at scale. It also quotes Morey Haber of BeyondTrust saying the distribution process was offloaded, and Devdatta Akhawe of Figma recommending Delivery for worldwide shipping and a single invoice.

These are vendor-hosted customer testimonials, not neutral comparative tests. They demonstrate possible operating models, but they do not establish a universal time saving, cost reduction or adoption rate. A historical X engineering account separately described a rollout using YubiKey 5 NFC and 5C NFC with Yubico delivery APIs; that example likewise illustrates one organization’s choices rather than a required design.
