A YouTube stream-health warning does not, by itself, show that BSNL is at fault. Capture the exact warning and the FFmpeg log at the same time, then check the encoder and loop, YouTube ingest settings, and actual upload stability. YouTube’s guidance separates problems visible in the encoder output from a healthy encoder feed that may be failing on its outbound connection; the available evidence does not establish a BSNL outage or a fault on your line.

Start with the warning and the matching FFmpeg log

Before changing bitrate, latency, or network equipment, note what YouTube reported and what FFmpeg was doing at that moment. The timestamp matters: recurring warnings at the same point in a file may suggest a media or loop issue, while warnings that come and go under load may warrant closer network testing.

  1. In YouTube Live Control Room, record the exact stream-health warning and its time.
  2. Note the stream’s resolution, frame rate, selected latency mode, and whether the warning recurs at the same point in the video loop.
  3. Save the FFmpeg command and the log lines around that time. Remove the YouTube stream key before sharing either; it is a credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed.

Those observations do not diagnose the cause on their own. They give you a useful basis for checking the media path, encoder, ingest configuration, and connection in turn.

Check whether the encoder and loop are healthy

Inspect the output before blaming the connection

If the encoder preview or a local recording of the output is already choppy, silent, distorted, or otherwise wrong, investigate the local side first: the source file, audio and video processing, FFmpeg errors, and CPU load. A network test cannot fix output that is faulty before it reaches YouTube.

Make sure a file is sent in real time

For a file sent as a live stream, FFmpeg’s official RTMP documentation demonstrates real-time input pacing with -re:

ffmpeg -re -i myfile -f flv rtmp://myserver/live/mystream

This is an illustration of pacing, not a ready-to-run YouTube command and not proof that a particular looping command is correct. Check the command you actually use, how the loop is implemented, and the input timestamps. Consult the documentation for your installed FFmpeg version; the online documentation tracks a rolling revision.

Match YouTube’s encoder settings to the actual stream

Check the settings against the resolution and frame rate you are really sending, rather than copying values for a different format. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Its current H.264 recommendations include these examples:

Stream format YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 60 fps 8 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

These are encoder-setting recommendations, not guaranteed minimum internet speeds. Use the matching row only if it describes your stream. Test with representative movement and audio while watching Stream health. YouTube’s recommendations may change.

If FFmpeg reports a startup error that points to a key problem, check the stream URL and key in the encoder. YouTube advises using a current third-party encoder and refreshing the key when encoder startup errors indicate a key issue. Do not post the key in logs, screenshots, or support requests.

Measure upload capacity and stability while streaming

Upload is the relevant direction for sending your feed to YouTube; a high download result does not establish that the outbound connection can sustain the stream. YouTube says inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound bandwidth and recommends 20% upload headroom beyond the requirements of the primary stream, backup streams, and other streams.

  1. Measure available upload while the FFmpeg stream is running or under a representative network load. An advertised plan rate is not a measurement of sustained upload during your stream.
  2. Compare stable available upload with the total outbound bitrate for all streams, then leave the recommended 20% headroom.
  3. If useful, compare a wired run with Wi-Fi under similar conditions. This is a diagnostic comparison, not proof that an Ethernet cable will fix a provider, router, or route problem.

A speed-test average can miss brief interruptions or congestion. YouTube notes that congestion and other factors can disrupt live streaming even when a network can sustain the average bitrate. If results show a connection problem, YouTube’s guidance is: “If you find issues with your internet connection: Contact your internet service provider to troubleshoot.” That is a reason to contact BSNL if your own tests point to the connection—not evidence that BSNL is already the cause.

Consider latency only after checking the feed and connection

Latency changes the balance between interaction speed and buffering tolerance. YouTube says lower latency reduces the read-ahead buffer, which can make viewers more likely to experience buffering. If the warning or viewer reports involve interruptions, note the selected latency mode and consider whether a mode with more buffering tolerance better suits the stream. Do not treat a latency change as a substitute for checking encoder output or upload stability.

Choose the next check from the evidence

What you observe Next place to investigate
The preview or local recording is already faulty, or FFmpeg shows relevant errors Source media, audio/video processing, loop and timestamps, encoder settings, and CPU load
Encoder output looks healthy, but measured outbound performance is poor or unstable Test the connection under load and contact your ISP if the connection test identifies a problem
Encoder output and upload tests look healthy, but YouTube still reports a warning Exact warning text, matching ingest settings, stream URL and key, latency mode, and route-specific behavior
Startup errors point to a key or encoder issue Verify the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder; use a current encoder and refresh the key if the error indicates a key problem

No single item in this table establishes a BSNL-specific fault. The exact warning and time-matched logs determine which path deserves attention first.
