If YouTube Live Control Room warns that your stream resolution is incorrect, compare the resolution selected in YouTube’s Ingestion Settings with the width and height FFmpeg is actually encoding. A video loop repeats frames; it does not set the stream’s output dimensions. Set the encoder output to match YouTube’s selected resolution, then preview the stream and check its health before going live.
What the resolution warning means
YouTube checks the encoded video it receives. Its error guidance says the video must match the height and width selected on the Ingestion Settings page. A warning may say the current resolution is not optimal, or that it is unsupported for the selected configuration; in the latter case, YouTube reports the expected resolution. Follow the dimensions shown in Live Control Room rather than guessing from the source file. YouTube’s live streaming error messages
Why an FFmpeg loop does not fix resolution
Looping and scaling are separate operations. FFmpeg’s loop video filter repeats frames; loop=-1 means infinite repetition. It does not specify the output width or height. A loop can therefore play continuously while still sending dimensions that do not match YouTube’s selection. FFmpeg loop filter documentation
FFmpeg’s -s output option sets the output size by inserting a scale filter at the end of the output filter graph. If the position of scaling matters within a filter chain, use the scale filter directly so you can place it where needed. The correct target is YouTube’s configured resolution, not a presumed match to the input. FFmpeg video options

Fix the warning step by step
- Read the exact Live Control Room message. Note the resolution selected under Ingestion Settings and any expected dimensions included in the warning. YouTube’s requirement concerns the encoded stream’s width and height.
- Check what FFmpeg outputs. Inspect the dimensions after the command’s filters and encoding settings, not just the dimensions of the original file. If output dimensions differ from YouTube’s selected resolution, configure the output size or add a correctly positioned
scalefilter. - Check the stream key’s resolution setting. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you use a custom stream key with manual resolution selection, make sure the encoder outputs the same target resolution.
- Check related encoder settings if the warning remains. YouTube’s current live encoder guidance for RTMP/RTMPS permits H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, recommends CBR, and specifies a 2-second keyframe interval with a maximum of 4 seconds. Match codec and bitrate recommendations to the chosen resolution and frame rate. YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Preview and monitor before going live. Test with representative video movement and audio, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and confirm the warning is gone. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth headroom; its streaming tips specify 20% extra bandwidth, counting primary and backup streams together when both are used. YouTube live streaming tips
Automatic detection or a manual resolution?
YouTube recommends automatic detection of resolution and frame rate by default. A custom stream key can instead use a manual resolution. The practical choice is whether you want YouTube to detect the incoming settings or to configure a specific target yourself. In either case, the encoded dimensions must be compatible with the selected ingestion configuration; when resolution is manual, match the output to that selection.
Choose a suitable output size and bitrate
Use the resolution YouTube expects for the stream key and choose a bitrate that your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder-settings table varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, it lists 10 Mbps as recommended for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. These are YouTube’s published recommendations on the live encoder settings page, accessed in 2026; they are not independent performance measurements, and the page does not state a publication year. Check the table for your particular codec and frame rate rather than applying those two figures to every stream.

Why there is no safe one-line command fix
The right edit depends on your current FFmpeg command, input and output dimensions, filter chain, selected YouTube resolution, codec, and frame rate. Without those details, a replacement command could alter a working loop or audio mapping unnecessarily. The general correction is clear: make the encoded output dimensions agree with YouTube’s selected ingestion dimensions. Where you put the scaling operation depends on the command’s existing filters.

If your goal is to keep uploaded video looping on a YouTube channel without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. YouTube’s resolution warning still comes down to matching the encoded output with the resolution selected for ingestion.
