A YouTube “poor connection” warning during an FFmpeg loop does not, by itself, prove that Jio is at fault. First check YouTube’s stream-health details, compare the local FFmpeg output with what YouTube is receiving, and measure upload performance while the stream is running. Then change one setting or network variable at a time.
First, identify where the warning appears
“Poor connection” is the wording you reported; without seeing the screen, it is not possible to confirm that this is YouTube’s exact displayed message. Find out whether the warning is in your YouTube Live Control Room, in FFmpeg’s terminal output (stderr), or on a viewer’s playback screen. Record the complete message and the time it appeared. Those are different signals and can point to different parts of the streaming path.
- Live Control Room: Open the live stream’s health or stream-status details and note the specific warning or error YouTube reports.
- FFmpeg terminal: Save the relevant stderr lines, including messages immediately before and after the interruption.
- Viewer screen: Check whether the problem affects viewers on different internet connections or only viewers sharing one connection. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance treats those cases differently.
Read YouTube’s health details before changing settings
The detailed health report is more useful than the general phrase “poor connection.” YouTube’s API documentation describes issues including videoIngestionStarved, bitrateHigh, unsupported codecs, and keyframe-interval problems.
videoIngestionStarvedmeans too little video is arriving for smooth streaming. It points to insufficient incoming video, but does not establish that the mobile carrier caused it.bitrateHighindicates a bitrate-related issue. Compare your configured output rate with the capacity your connection can sustain during the stream.- A codec or keyframe warning calls for checking that specific encoder setting rather than assuming the hotspot is the cause.
Write down the exact health message before making a change. That gives you a baseline for checking whether the next step helped.

Check whether FFmpeg is producing clean output
Inspect the local preview or a local recording, if you have one, and review FFmpeg’s stderr and the computer’s CPU load. If the local output is already choppy, corrupted, or failing, investigate the source file, encoding process, or available CPU before blaming the upload path. If local output looks healthy but YouTube reports trouble, test the outbound connection and the settings YouTube identifies.
Do not guess at a universal FFmpeg reconnect flag. Protocol options depend on the actual output protocol, and no single reconnect option guarantees that a YouTube Live session will recover from a mobile-network interruption. If command-level diagnosis is needed, the relevant details are the FFmpeg version, output protocol, command with the stream key removed, and nearby stderr lines.
Measure the Jio hotspot while the stream is running
Test outbound performance under the same conditions in which the warning occurs: while FFmpeg is uploading, not only when the hotspot is idle. Compare the measured upload performance with the stream’s configured video and audio rates. A single idle speed test does not show whether the connection can sustain the stream throughout an upload.

- Start the stream with your current settings and note when the warning occurs.
- Measure the outbound connection during transmission, and note the result alongside the configured video and audio rates.
- If another internet connection is already available, try the same setup over it at a comparable time. Keep the encoder settings and source the same so the network path is the main variable.
- Compare YouTube’s health report and the local output on each connection. Record the results rather than relying on whether the stream merely seemed better.
If YouTube’s encoder output looks healthy but the upload test shows a problem, YouTube recommends checking connection strength and contacting the internet provider when the test indicates trouble. A result from one Jio hotspot at one location and time would describe that test, not establish a general performance claim about Jio.

Match the encoder settings to the health report
Choose a quality the connection can reliably carry. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists CBR; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the current YouTube table for the mode you actually selected rather than treating any one bitrate as universal.
For H.264, YouTube’s currently listed examples include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, and 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps. These are encoder recommendations, not guaranteed minimum upload speeds and not measurements of Jio performance. AV1 and H.265/HEVC recommendations also vary by resolution and frame rate.

YouTube’s help guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Test the chosen configuration before relying on it for a long broadcast, then keep monitoring the health report.
If YouTube flags bitrate or the upload cannot sustain it
Reduce the configured bitrate if it is above measured sustainable outbound capacity or YouTube reports a high bitrate. If needed, reduce resolution or frame rate as well. Change one variable at a time and watch whether the health report improves; lowering quality blindly can obscure the cause without fixing an unrelated codec or keyframe issue.

Correct the named setting against YouTube’s current encoder guidance. In particular, check that the keyframe interval is two seconds where possible and no more than four seconds. A setting-specific warning is a stronger reason to adjust that setting than to replace hotspot equipment.

What Jio’s public guidance does—and does not—establish
The cited Jio FAQ concerns buffering during JioTV playback and offers generic advice to check the network. It does not diagnose a YouTube Live upload through a mobile hotspot or establish that Jio caused this warning. The relevant evidence for your case is the YouTube health report, FFmpeg’s local output and logs, and an upload test during transmission.
Troubleshooting by symptom
