If YouTube Live Control Room says “no encoder connected,” it is not recognizing an incoming stream for the broadcast you have selected. A stream key by itself does not start OBS streaming: OBS must be actively sending video to YouTube using the matching server URL and key. Check OBS’s streaming state and the preview for the exact stream in YouTube Studio first. The available information does not point to an India-specific cause; the steps below help distinguish a setup mismatch, an account requirement, and an encoder or ingest warning.
1. Confirm OBS is actively streaming
Entering a stream key only configures where OBS should send a stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow also requires the YouTube Live server URL and starting the encoder. In OBS, check whether the streaming session is actually running—not just whether the key is saved in settings. YouTube’s instructions are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- If OBS is not streaming, start the stream in OBS and watch for a change in YouTube Live Control Room.
- If OBS reports an error or stops, note its exact message and check OBS’s status or logs before changing other settings.
- If OBS says it is streaming but YouTube still does not recognize an incoming feed, continue with the stream-selection and server/key checks below.
2. Open the matching stream in YouTube Studio
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room entry for the broadcast you intend to run. A preview there is the practical sign that YouTube is receiving the encoder feed for that stream. Make sure you are not checking a different scheduled event or broadcast from the one OBS is sending to.
If the stream is scheduled
YouTube’s setup flow says to wait for the preview to appear and then click Go live. Starting the encoder in OBS and making a scheduled broadcast public are separate actions. If OBS is streaming but the preview has not appeared, confirm the selected event and the values configured in OBS before clicking through or starting another broadcast.

3. Match the server URL and stream key to that broadcast
Compare the server URL and stream key currently configured in OBS with the values shown for the exact stream in YouTube Studio. YouTube directs creators to copy the stream URL and key from the stream and paste them into the encoder. An existing OBS profile may still contain a previously used key; selecting a new YouTube event does not by itself prove that OBS is sending to that event’s matching settings.
- In the intended Live Control Room stream, find its encoder settings and copy the displayed server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream and compare the selected service, server, and key with the values for that stream.
- Correct any mismatch, apply the settings, and start the OBS stream. Return to the same Live Control Room entry and check for a preview.
Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it in screenshots, chat, or support posts. If it may have been exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new value.

4. Check whether the channel can live stream
YouTube says live streaming must be enabled, the channel must be verified, and the channel must have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. If you recently enabled live streaming, an encoder setup that looks correct may not be enough until activation is complete. - Check the channel’s verification and live-streaming eligibility in YouTube Studio.
- Look for an account or feature restriction rather than assuming a stream-key error.
- If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours as YouTube specifies before treating the delay as an encoder fault.
5. Read YouTube’s exact stream warning
The Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check the incoming stream and can report specific errors. YouTube gives “encoder sending no audio” as an example. That kind of warning points to a different issue than a server URL or key mismatch, so use the exact message displayed rather than treating every status as proof the key is wrong. If OBS is actively streaming, the correct broadcast is open, the URL and key match, and eligibility checks are clear, record the exact Live Control Room warning and OBS’s current state or relevant log details. Those details are needed to narrow down an unresolved ingest problem; the symptom alone does not establish a cause.
Does being in India change the fix?
The fact that you are in India does not, by itself, identify why YouTube reports no encoder. The cited YouTube setup and eligibility guidance does not give an India-specific cause, server setting, or remedy for this status. Start with the same checks: active OBS output, the correct stream, matching URL and key, channel eligibility, and YouTube’s exact warning. Do not assume an ISP, local routing, or regional restriction is responsible without evidence from the actual stream status.
