Yes, you can run a 24/7 YouTube livestream using pre-recorded videos, but YouTube does not give every continuous prerecorded stream blanket advance approval. Your channel must be eligible to livestream, the content must meet YouTube’s rules, and you must have the necessary rights. Monetization is a separate review: permission to use material does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. There is also an archive trade-off: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays.

What YouTube’s rules mean for a 24/7 prerecorded stream

YouTube’s published guidance sets conditions for livestreaming and for the content on a channel; it does not categorically approve or ban every format that continuously loops prerecorded video. Whether a particular stream complies depends on the content, rights, channel status and, if applicable, monetization review. Check the current YouTube livestreaming eligibility and getting-started guidance before you begin.

Meet the livestreaming eligibility requirements

  • Your channel must be verified.
  • Your channel must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
  • The live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

These are eligibility conditions, not an advance ruling on a specific 24/7 format. A channel that qualifies to livestream still needs to assess its actual video, audio and presentation against YouTube’s policies.

Have rights to everything in the stream

YouTube’s Terms of Service require the provider to have the rights needed to make live content available on Google services worldwide, including relevant music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and required clearances in the stream’s territory. Check rights for every component, not just the main video: music, performance footage, images, clips and other third-party material may each have separate rights holders.

A license or other permission should cover the intended use, including livestreaming and the relevant territories. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask them to add your channel to their allowlist as YouTube recommends; having a license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption when the channel has not been allowlisted.

How copyright enforcement can interrupt the broadcast

YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. Its live-stream copyright guidance explains that YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop showing the content. If it remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also result in termination.

  • Before going live: Confirm that you control or have permission for all video and audio, and retain records of licenses and clearances.
  • If you have licensed material: Ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID where applicable. A license alone is not a guarantee against interruption.
  • If YouTube warns you: Remove or replace the identified material promptly rather than assuming the stream can safely continue.

Monetization is a separate channel-level test

Copyright compliance and monetization eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other videos and assess the channel as a whole. Reviewers may consider its theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the videos accounting for the largest share of watch time, metadata and About section.

Permission does not guarantee monetization

YouTube’s reused-content policy covers material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The policy states: “This policy applies even if you have permission from the original creator.” A channel may therefore fail the reused-content monetization test even when it has permission and no copyright claim.

Repetitive or mass-produced streams can be a problem

On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that it had renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to describe the existing restriction on repetitive or mass-produced material; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. A 24/7 schedule is not itself an advance monetization approval. Consider whether the channel offers original work and meaningful value rather than simply repeating generic material.

If your channel is monetized, YouTube allows eligible creators to enable live-stream ads. Pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is turned on; mid-rolls can be automatic or manually configured. YouTube cautions that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, so do not treat ad delivery or revenue as assured. See YouTube’s live-stream ad guidance.

Choose between one long stream and shorter sessions

The main practical distinction is whether you need an uninterrupted viewer experience or a more dependable YouTube archive. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup.

Approach Archive implications Viewer continuity What to plan
One continuous stream longer than 12 hours YouTube says it may not be captured as an archive. A single session avoids planned breaks. Keep a local recording if you need a replay, and plan how you will recover after an interruption.
Shorter sessions, each under 12 hours YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; that does not guarantee processing. Viewers will encounter transitions between sessions. Schedule and restart sessions, and retain a local backup for anything you need to preserve.

Splitting a broadcast into shorter sessions is the safer documented choice if archives matter, but YouTube does not say that splitting guarantees archive processing. Neither format changes the rights or monetization requirements.

Set up the stream and plan for interruptions

YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe connecting a stream URL and stream key to an encoder, then starting the stream from that encoder. Its livestreaming tips identify software encoding programs as one way to stream. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not prescribe a computer specification or a particular hardware setup for unattended streaming.

  1. Prepare the content and rights: Assemble the videos and confirm the rights for every audio and visual element. Decide whether viewers need a continuous session or whether shorter sessions and their transitions are acceptable.
  2. Confirm channel eligibility: Verify the channel and check that it has no livestreaming restriction from the previous 90 days. Review current Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and monetization policies relevant to your material.
  3. Create a YouTube live stream: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder or service using it.
  4. Configure your encoder: Enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder, select the prepared video or playlist, and check the stream preview before starting. Use the encoder’s monitoring and recovery options where available; exact controls depend on the software you choose.
  5. Start and monitor the broadcast: Start the encoder and confirm in YouTube Studio that the stream is receiving video and audio. Keep a local recording if you need an archive, especially for a session longer than 12 hours.
  6. Plan a recovery path: Decide who or what will restart the encoder if the connection, computer or YouTube stream fails. A continuous schedule is not a guarantee of uninterrupted delivery.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, without leaving a computer or home connection running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the content from the cloud. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
  • Every slot streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than separate quality tiers.
  • The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. For the DIY method, YouTube still requires you to follow its content, rights and monetization rules; using a cloud service does not change those obligations.

Start your free StreamNeo day.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to do
You cannot start a livestream The channel is not verified or has a livestreaming restriction within the previous 90 days. Check channel verification and restriction status in YouTube Studio, then follow YouTube’s eligibility guidance.
The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder YouTube detected third-party material, or a warning was not addressed. Remove or replace the material. For licensed content, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting; permission alone may not prevent interruption.
A long broadcast has no replay The session exceeded 12 hours; YouTube warns that such streams may not be captured. Keep a local recording. If YouTube archives are important, use shorter sessions, while recognizing that archive processing is not guaranteed.
The channel is not approved for monetization or loses monetization Reused, repetitive or mass-produced material may fail channel-level policy review, even with permission and no copyright claim. Review the channel’s originality and value across its videos, metadata and About section against the current monetization policy.
Live ads do not appear consistently YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve. Treat advertising as a possibility, not dependable delivery or guaranteed revenue.
