Deezer currently gives listeners more practical control over AI-generated music. It identifies fully AI-generated tracks, labels albums that contain them, and keeps those tracks out of algorithmic and editorial recommendations. YouTube Music’s October 14, 2026 rollout makes AI involvement more visible with player-page labels and partner declarations, but the announcement describes transparency rather than removal or recommendation filtering.
The better choice depends on what you mean by control. Choose Deezer if you want the service itself to reduce the appearance of fully AI-generated tracks in discovery. Choose YouTube Music if you are a creator, label, or distributor that needs explicit metadata categories for declaring full, partial, or no generative-AI use.
What “control over AI music” means on each service
AI controls are not one feature. They span four separate questions:
- Can you see a disclosure? A label tells you that generative AI played a significant role.
- Can the service keep AI tracks out of discovery? Recommendation exclusion is stronger than a label because it changes what appears in playlists and personalized surfaces.
- How is AI use detected? Services may rely on declarations from music partners, their own detection systems, or both.
- Can creators report AI use accurately? Detailed metadata categories help artists and distributors distinguish full generation from limited assistance.
On the evidence available through October 2026, Deezer leads on listener-side intervention, while YouTube Music offers the clearer submission framework for rights holders and distributors.

YouTube Music’s AI labels: what listeners will see
Player-page labeling
YouTube announced on October 14, 2026 that YouTube Music was rolling out labels for songs created primarily with generative AI. The scope includes cases where a generative model created both the composition and the vocals. The disclosure appears directly on the player page, and selecting the label opens additional information.
YouTube says it combines information supplied by music partners with its own detection tools. It also says the labeling principles are based on those already used across YouTube. This means a label can result from a partner’s metadata, YouTube’s signals, or both.
What the announcement does not promise
The cited launch announcement does not say that YouTube Music automatically hides labeled songs, removes them from radio stations, or excludes them from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. A visible disclosure therefore improves your ability to identify AI involvement, but it is not documented as a blocking or filtering control.

You can inspect the player-page disclosure when it is present, but the available announcement does not establish a user-facing switch for suppressing every labeled track.
YouTube’s metadata workflow for artists and distributors
YouTube’s partner documentation defines three declarations. They are intended to describe the role generative AI played in creating the delivered recording, rather than to make a broad statement about whether any software was used during production.
“Fully Gen AI”
Use this category when generative AI creates the delivered track as a whole. YouTube’s example is a text prompt that produces a downloadable song. That is materially different from using an automated tool for one production task while people perform and record the rest.

“Partly Gen AI”
This category covers significant but limited generative assistance. YouTube’s examples include AI-generated bass or strings combined with live vocals and instruments, and using AI to brainstorm lyrics or melodies before recording the finished work in a studio.

YouTube lists pitch correction and automated AI mastering as examples that do not fall under its generative-AI declarations. Those processes may alter or polish a recording, but they are not treated in the examples as generative creation of the music itself.
How partners submit the declaration
- Classify the delivered recording. Decide whether the track is fully generated, partly generated, or has no generative-AI use under YouTube’s examples.
- Send the declaration through an accepted channel. Partners can use DDEX ERN version 4.3.2 or later, YouTube’s CSV delivery templates, or YouTube Studio metadata.
- Keep the declaration aligned across deliveries. If a track is re-delivered or replaced, the metadata should describe the version that listeners will receive.
- Expect additional checks. YouTube says it may use other signals when a partner omits a declaration, so leaving the field blank does not guarantee that no label will be applied.
This workflow gives professional partners more precise control over disclosure than a simple yes-or-no field. It also separates creative generation from routine production assistance, which matters when a recording contains live performances alongside AI-created elements.
Deezer’s AI detection and recommendation controls
Labels and album-level visibility
Deezer’s January 24, 2025 announcement said its detector was finding roughly 10,000 fully AI-generated tracks delivered each day, approximately 10% of that day’s content. Deezer said it planned to tag fully AI-generated content and exclude it from both algorithmic and editorial recommendations.
On June 20, 2025, Deezer announced what it called the first AI-tagging system for music streaming. It said more than 20,000 fully AI-generated tracks were arriving each day, about 18% of daily uploads. Deezer described labels for the AI-generated material and said the recommendation exclusion was in operation for fully AI-generated tracks. It also said albums containing such tracks could be identified, giving listeners a broader signal than a disclosure attached only to one song.

Recommendation exclusion is the key difference
For a listener trying to avoid AI-generated songs, Deezer’s documented behavior goes beyond showing a warning. Fully AI-generated tracks are kept out of algorithmic and editorial recommendation systems. That affects personalized recommendations, automated discovery surfaces, and editorial selections, although the cited material does not promise that every such track is impossible to find through direct search or an artist’s page.

The distinction matters: a track can remain available in the catalog while being removed from the systems that actively suggest what to play next. Deezer’s policy therefore reduces exposure without claiming to erase the content from the service.
How large is the AI-upload problem?
The reported volumes changed sharply over the period covered by Deezer’s announcements. Each figure refers to the date and definition used by Deezer, so the percentages should not be treated as a permanent market-wide measurement.
| Report date | Deezer’s reported AI delivery volume | Share of daily deliveries | Additional finding |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 24, 2025 | Roughly 10,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day | About 10% | Deezer announced planned tagging and recommendation exclusion. |
| June 20, 2025 | More than 20,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day | About 18% | Fully AI-generated music represented about 0.5% of streams. |
| January 2026, FY2025 investor release | Around 60,000 AI-generated tracks per day | Roughly 39% | Deezer reported up to 85% of streams on AI-generated music as fraudulent and removed them from the royalty pool. |
The contrast between delivery volume and listening volume is important. In Deezer’s June 2025 figures, fully AI-generated music made up a small fraction of streams despite representing a much larger share of uploads. A large number of uploaded tracks does not automatically mean that listeners are spending a similar share of their time with them.
Fraud detection, streams and artist payments
Deezer linked AI detection to streaming fraud rather than treating labeling as a purely cosmetic feature. In June 2025, it said up to 70% of streams on fully AI-generated tracks were fraudulent. In its FY2025 investor release, Deezer reported that the figure had reached up to 85% for streams on AI-generated music and said those streams were removed from the royalty pool.
These are Deezer’s reported maximum levels, not a claim that every AI-generated track has fraudulent activity. The figures also describe Deezer’s own detection and classification work; they should not be generalized to YouTube Music or to the entire streaming market.
For artists, the practical implication is that an AI label and a fraud review can affect whether streams contribute to royalty calculations. For listeners, it explains why Deezer treats recommendation exclusion as an integrity measure: mass-uploaded tracks can be used to manipulate discovery and payment systems even when they attract little genuine listening.

Can you tell whether a song was made with a tool such as Suno or Udio?
Neither service’s cited policy promises to name the specific generative model used. A label can indicate that generative AI played a role without identifying the application, model version, prompt, training data, or which vocal and instrumental parts were synthetic.
Recommended Free Tools
YouTube’s categories describe the extent of generative involvement, not a brand-level provenance record. A “Fully Gen AI” declaration tells you that the delivered track was generated as a whole under YouTube’s example; it does not tell you which service produced it. “Partly Gen AI” likewise covers a range of workflows, from generated instrumental parts to brainstorming assistance followed by human recording.
Deezer’s detector is intended to identify fully AI-generated content, but the cited announcements do not claim that it can reliably identify every model or distinguish every partial workflow. A missing label is therefore not proof that no AI was used, particularly when a partner did not declare it or when the use falls outside the service’s documented detection scope.
What listeners can do on each service
If you use YouTube Music
- Open the song in YouTube Music and view the player page.
- Look for the generative-AI disclosure attached to the track.
- Tap the label to read the additional information supplied by YouTube.
- If avoiding AI is essential, do not assume that an unlabeled track is guaranteed to be entirely human-made; the rollout describes detection and partner declarations, not perfect provenance.
The documented control is inspection. The October 2026 announcement does not provide a universal “hide AI songs” control or state that labeled tracks are removed from recommendations.
If you use Deezer
- Check song or album labeling when you want to know whether content is identified as fully AI-generated.
- Use Deezer’s normal discovery features with the understanding that fully AI-generated tracks are excluded from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.
- Search directly when you need a specific track, because recommendation exclusion is not the same as deletion from the catalog.
Deezer’s documented approach is automatic rather than a manually configured listener blacklist. The cited material does not describe a setting that lets you choose thresholds for partial AI use.
Which service gives creators more control over disclosure?
YouTube Music is stronger for creators and distributors who need to communicate degrees of AI involvement. Its three declarations cover full generation, partial assistance, and no generative AI, and the delivery options are explicit. That structure can be incorporated into label and distributor workflows instead of relying on an informal note or a single binary flag.

Deezer is stronger for the listener-facing consequences of a full-AI classification. Its announcements emphasize detection, labeling, recommendation exclusion, and fraud handling, but they do not specify an equivalent creator-facing taxonomy or delivery protocol in the cited material.
| If your priority is… | Better fit based on the documented policies | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Keeping fully AI-generated tracks out of recommendations | Deezer | It explicitly excludes those tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. |
| Seeing an AI disclosure while listening | Either, with different presentation | YouTube places the label on the player page; Deezer tags fully AI-generated content and albums containing it. |
| Submitting a detailed declaration as a distributor | YouTube Music | It provides three categories and names DDEX ERN 4.3.2+, CSV templates, and YouTube Studio. |
| Understanding the service’s anti-fraud response | Deezer | It reports fraudulent-stream levels and removal from the royalty pool. |
| Identifying the exact AI application used | Neither is documented to provide this | The cited policies describe AI involvement, not model or application identity. |
Important limits of the comparison
- Labels are not proof of perfect detection. Both services combine or may combine declarations with automated signals, and neither cited policy claims to catch every use of generative software.
- “AI-generated” is not one uniform category. Full song generation, an AI-created bass line, lyric brainstorming, pitch correction, and automated mastering receive different treatment in YouTube’s examples.
- Deezer’s percentages are company-reported measurements. The delivery and fraud figures are tied to specific announcements and dates, not an independently verified industry census.
- Recommendation exclusion is narrower than removal. Deezer says fully AI-generated tracks are excluded from recommendations; that does not establish that every such track is deleted or unsearchable.
- YouTube’s rollout may evolve. The October 2026 announcement establishes labels and partner declarations, but it does not state future recommendation or blocking policies.
What the policy trend means for the music ecosystem
Deezer’s reported growth from roughly 10,000 fully AI-generated deliveries per day in January 2025 to around 60,000 AI-generated deliveries per day in January 2026 shows why platforms are separating catalog availability from recommendation eligibility. Upload systems can absorb enormous volumes, while discovery systems and royalty pools remain vulnerable to automated manipulation.
Deezer also cited a CISAC and PMP Strategy study that estimated nearly 25% of creators’ revenues could be at risk by 2028, potentially reaching €4 billion. That is a forecast cited by Deezer, not a measurement of current losses, and it depends on assumptions about adoption, licensing, and market behavior.
Deezer has announced licensing its AI-detection technology to the music industry. The announcements do not establish availability, pricing, technical requirements, or a public partner program, so those details should be confirmed directly before treating the licensing plan as an accessible product.
YouTube’s declaration workflow points in a different direction: standardized metadata that can travel through distributors, labels, and rights-management systems. Its categories could support more consistent disclosure across a release’s lifecycle, even though the cited launch does not connect those declarations to recommendation exclusion.
Verdict
For a listener asking, “Which music app lets me avoid AI-generated songs?” Deezer is the stronger answer today because it combines labeling with automatic exclusion of fully AI-generated tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. For a creator asking, “How do I disclose exactly how AI was used?” YouTube Music offers the more explicit control through its Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, and No Gen AI declarations and documented delivery channels.
