Then check YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. A verified channel may still need up to 24 hours before its first live stream is available; that wait does not resolve a wrong-account, number-limit, or channel-restriction problem.
1. Confirm you are verifying the right channel with the right account
- Open YouTube Studio while signed in to the Google account that manages the channel you want to stream from.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and inspect the status of the relevant features. If you manage multiple channels, confirm that Studio is showing the intended one.
- Check who is completing verification. For a Brand Account, an owner or manager can phone-verify. For a non-Brand channel, only its owner can do so. Advanced identity verification has a stricter rule: it must be completed by the primary channel owner.
Phone verification enables intermediate features; it is not the same as advanced feature access. If Feature eligibility shows another requirement or restriction, completing phone verification alone will not clear it.
2. If the verification code never arrives
YouTube sends its code by text message or voice call. If a text does not arrive, try the voice-call option. Delivery can be delayed; if Google messages are still not arriving, YouTube advises trying a number from a different carrier.
- Try the other delivery method: switch from text to voice call, or vice versa, if YouTube offers the choice.
- Allow for delivery delay: avoid treating a slow message as proof that the number or channel is ineligible.
- Check for the number limit: YouTube allows a phone number to be associated with no more than two channels per year. If YouTube says the number has reached its limit, use a different eligible number rather than repeatedly requesting a code for the same one.
Do not share a verification code with anyone. Enter it only in YouTube’s verification flow for the intended channel.

3. If the code works but Live remains unavailable
Check the feature status
Return to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and see whether phone verification is still pending or another feature-access condition is shown. If the status has not updated, make sure you are checking the same channel and account that completed verification.
Allow time for first-time activation
YouTube says the first live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after you turn on live streaming. This is an activation window, not a guaranteed deadline for fixing every verification, eligibility, or restriction issue. If the option remains unavailable after that period, recheck Feature eligibility and the channel’s restrictions rather than repeatedly submitting codes.

Check for a live-streaming restriction
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. A recent restriction can block streaming even if phone verification succeeded. Check the channel’s current notices and Feature eligibility status; a verification code cannot remove a policy restriction.
4. Identify whether you are setting up a computer stream or a mobile stream
Do not use the mobile subscriber requirement to diagnose a computer-streaming problem. The two modes have different eligibility checks.

The 50-subscriber threshold applies to mobile live streaming, not computer streaming. If you meet the mobile subscriber threshold but cannot go live, check the other mobile requirements and the channel’s Feature eligibility status.
5. Troubleshooting by symptom

6. After YouTube enables the channel: keep a prerecorded stream running
Phone verification and live-stream activation are YouTube account checks. A cloud streaming service does not bypass them; first make sure the channel itself is eligible to go live.
