A YouTube Community Guidelines warning is not the same as a strike, and a warning alone does not establish why an Indian channel cannot go live. Check the exact enforcement notice and your channel status in YouTube Studio: YouTube lists a strike or a live stream taken down under its policies as possible reasons for a live-stream restriction. The notice tells you what action applies to your account and what to do next.
First, identify the restriction shown on your channel
- Read YouTube’s email and Studio notification. YouTube says these identify the removed content, the policy involved, the effect on the channel, and next steps. Start with the notice’s wording and any stated end date rather than assuming a warning caused the block. YouTube’s account-standing guidance explains where to review enforcement information.
- Check the Channel violations card and live-stream access. In YouTube Studio, open the Dashboard and look for Channel violations. Review the current status and whether policy training or an appeal option is offered.
- Distinguish the enforcement type. The notice may concern a Community Guidelines warning, a Community Guidelines strike, a live-stream restriction, or copyright enforcement. YouTube treats copyright and Community Guidelines enforcement separately; a Content ID claim by itself is not a strike. YouTube’s Strikes FAQ describes the distinction.
If the account is restricted, follow the notice’s stated duration and instructions. The fact that the channel is based in India does not, in the cited YouTube guidance, establish a separate India-only warning, appeal, or live-restriction process. Use the status and notice for your own channel.
Warning, strike, and live-stream restriction: what each means
| Status | What YouTube says | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Community Guidelines warning | A first violation is typically a warning. Some warnings offer optional in-product policy training; if eligible, completing it starts a 90-day period after which the warning expires. Not every warning qualifies. | Whether training is offered and whether the notice identifies a warning rather than a strike. |
| Repeat of the same policy violation | A repeat of the same policy violation during the relevant 90-day window may lead to a strike rather than the warning expiring. | The policy cited and the dates of the warning, training, and later enforcement. |
| First Community Guidelines strike | A first strike prevents uploading videos or live streams and several other publishing actions for one week. Scheduled public content is made private for the penalty period. Privileges return automatically after the week, but the strike remains for 90 days. | The strike date and the restriction period shown in Studio. |
| Second strike within the same 90-day period | YouTube says this results in a two-week posting restriction. | Whether the notice records a second strike within that period. |
| Three strikes within the same 90-day period | Three strikes may result in channel termination. | The enforcement history in Studio and any appeal options. |
| Live-stream-specific restriction | YouTube’s live-stream guidance says a restricted live stream may result in a strike and live-stream access can be restricted for 14 days. | The account’s actual notice and end date; this duration should not be assumed to apply to every warning. |
These are YouTube’s published policy periods, not a guarantee that every case follows the same path. Check the notice for the action actually applied to your channel. YouTube explains warning and strike basics at Community Guidelines strike basics and live-stream restrictions at Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
How to appeal a warning or strike
YouTube says a creator can appeal a Community Guidelines warning or strike within six months after it is issued. For a strike, the route is YouTube Studio Dashboard → Channel violations → Appeal. You may appeal each strike only once, so review the cited policy and the notice before submitting.

- Open the enforcement email or Studio notice and identify the video, policy, and enforcement type.
- Review the policy cited in the notice and compare it with the content YouTube removed or restricted.
- In Studio, go to Dashboard → Channel violations and select the appeal option for the relevant strike. For a warning, use the appeal route made available in the notice or Studio.
- Explain why you believe the decision is mistaken, addressing the specific policy and content at issue. Submit within the six-month appeal window.
If YouTube accepts an appeal, it can reinstate the content and remove a strike. If an appeal of a warning is granted, the next offense will be a warning. In some cases, content may remain available with an age restriction. If the appeal is rejected, the strike remains; YouTube says a rejected appeal does not add a further penalty. The official steps and outcomes are described in Appeal a Community Guidelines strike or video removal.
Do not delete the content to try to clear a strike. Deleting it does not remove the strike and may remove the ability to appeal. If the notice concerns copyright rather than Community Guidelines, do not use the Community Guidelines appeal path by default: copyright strikes have separate remedies, including waiting for expiration, seeking a retraction, or submitting a counter notification where appropriate.

Can you go live from another channel?
No—not to get around an active restriction. YouTube says a creator whose account is restricted from live streaming may not use another channel to live stream on YouTube while the restriction is active. YouTube describes this as circumvention; it can lead to termination of existing or new channels and channels where the creator is repeatedly or prominently featured. Wait for the restriction to end or use the official appeal process instead. See YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance.
