Usually, yes: YouTube’s published guidance does not say that an ordinary Content ID claim by itself blocks an Indian channel from live streaming. A claim is not the same as a copyright strike. Whether you can go live depends on your channel’s eligibility and any specific restriction shown in YouTube Studio—not merely on the word “claim.”
Check these requirements before going live
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance lists these baseline requirements. It does not describe an India-specific exception for an ordinary Content ID claim.
- Verify your channel. YouTube requires channel verification for live streaming.
- Have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. A restriction during that lookback period can affect eligibility.
- Be at least 16 years old. YouTube states this as its minimum age for live streaming.
These are general requirements, not a guarantee that a particular account can stream. YouTube also lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as ways to go live; mobile streaming has additional requirements. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and your account status.
Understand whether you have a claim, a strike, or a live restriction
Content ID claim
A Content ID claim typically does not result in a copyright strike. YouTube says claims and strikes are different. The official guidance reviewed does not say that an ordinary claim alone disqualifies an Indian channel from live streaming. A claim on an archived broadcast may be made after the stream ends if the broadcast is archived; that is different from a match detected during an active stream.

Read the notice in YouTube Studio to identify the specific claim and its effect. Do not infer that live streaming is blocked solely because a video has a claim. See YouTube’s explanation of copyright strikes and its strikes FAQ.
Copyright strike
A strike follows a copyright removal request that YouTube considers valid; it is not simply another name for a Content ID claim. A copyright removal of an active live stream has a specific live-access consequence: YouTube says the channel’s live-stream access is restricted for seven days. After another copyright strike, the stated restriction is 14 days. Those durations apply to the described copyright-removal events, not to every Content ID claim.

Match detected during an active stream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If a match is detected, the stream can be replaced with a placeholder and YouTube may prompt you to stop showing or playing the material. If it continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A live match and a claim on an archived stream are separate events.

If you have a license for the content
A license does not necessarily prevent an automated live interruption on its own. YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without that operational step, a stream may still be interrupted, even if you have a license or apply territorial restrictions. Confirm the allowlist status with the rights owner before relying on licensed material in a live broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

What to do when YouTube says you cannot go live
- Open YouTube Studio and read the exact notice. Determine whether it identifies a Content ID claim, a copyright removal and strike, or a live-stream restriction. These have different consequences.
- Check your live-stream access status and restriction dates. If YouTube has restricted live access, use the period shown for your account rather than assuming a claim caused it.
- Review YouTube’s email about the action. Match it to the notice in Studio; do not treat a claim notice as proof of a strike.
- If a live stream was interrupted, remove the matched material before trying again. Continuing to show or play it can lead to interruption or termination.
- If you have permission, contact the rights owner about the Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent matching.
- Do not use another channel to evade an active live restriction. YouTube prohibits this while the restriction is active and may treat it as circumvention. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions.
