YouTube does not publish a specific live-stream bitrate recommendation for 1080p at 50 fps. Its closest official reference points are 1080p at 30 fps and 60 fps. Use the figures below as reference points—not as an official 50 fps setting—and test your intended encoder and internet connection before relying on a loop.

What bitrate should you use for 1080p at 50 fps?

YouTube’s official live encoder table has no 1080p50 row. It lists 1080p30 and 1080p60, with different recommendations for H.264 and for AV1 or H.265. The table’s figures are current page guidance verified on October 3, 2026; YouTube’s page does not display a publication or update date. YouTube’s live encoder settings describes its recommendations as depending on codec, ingestion resolution and frame rate.

Live video setting AV1 or H.265 minimum AV1 or H.265 recommended H.264 minimum H.264 recommended
1080p at 30 fps 4 Mbps 10 Mbps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 4 Mbps 12 Mbps 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

For 1080p50, choose a test bitrate informed by the applicable codec and these adjacent frame-rate values, then verify the result in YouTube Live Control Room. Do not present an interpolated number as a YouTube recommendation. If your encoder offers only H.264, use the H.264 column as the relevant reference; if you use AV1 or H.265, use that codec’s column.

Why looped video does not change the official bitrate guidance

The published live table is keyed to codec, resolution and frame rate. It does not give a separate bitrate for a loop, a static scene or prerecorded footage being sent as a live stream. A visually simple loop might encode differently in practice from footage with frequent motion, but that is not a separate YouTube bitrate recommendation.

Do not substitute YouTube’s prerecorded-upload recommendation for high-frame-rate 1080p. That guidance is for uploaded videos, not live ingest, and does not fill the missing 1080p50 row in the live table. YouTube’s upload encoding settings is the separate reference for prerecorded uploads.

Set the other encoder options correctly

Bitrate is only one part of a stable live feed. YouTube’s live encoder guidance also specifies protocol, bitrate mode, keyframe interval and color settings.

Amazon Basics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Internet Adapter, Compatible with Windows and macOS, Black
  • Connects a USB 3.0 device (computer/laptop) to a router, modem, or network switch to deliver Gigabit Ethernet to your network connection. Does not support Smart TV or gaming consoles (e.g.Nintendo Switch).
  • Supported features include Wake-on-LAN function, Green Ethernet & IEEE 802.3az-2010 (Energy Efficient Ethernet)
  • Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
  • Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
  • Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
  • Video codec: H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1. Your encoder and chosen ingest setup must support the codec you select.
  • Frame rate: YouTube lists support up to 60 fps, which includes 50 fps.
  • Bitrate mode: CBR (constant bitrate).
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
  • SDR color: Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth are listed in the advanced settings.

These are general live-encoder settings from YouTube’s guidance, not a special preset for video loops.

Test 1080p50 before leaving a loop running

A nominal upload speed is not a guarantee that the connection will sustain a live stream continuously. YouTube does not prescribe a fixed upload-headroom percentage in the cited guidance, so avoid treating any single margin as an official rule. Test the actual connection and setup instead.

  1. Check the uplink. Run a speed test on the connection the encoder will use. Pay attention to upload capacity and whether it remains consistent.
  2. Run a representative preflight. Send a test with the same resolution, 50 fps, codec, bitrate, audio and level of movement you intend to use. YouTube advises that tests include audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
  3. Watch Live Control Room. Check stream health and review messages while the test is running. YouTube specifically advises monitoring both during the event.
  4. Adjust and repeat if necessary. If the connection or stream health is unstable, lower the test bitrate or address the network or encoder issue, then test again. Confirm that the image and sound remain acceptable at the setting you plan to keep.

Common problems and what to check

  • You cannot find a YouTube 1080p50 bitrate. There is no such row in the cited live table. Use the 1080p30 and 1080p60 values for the selected codec as reference points, then test rather than labeling an in-between value an official recommendation.
  • The stream buffers or reports poor health. Recheck upload capacity under load, confirm CBR and the intended bitrate, and run another representative test. The official guidance does not define a universal headroom percentage.
  • The same bitrate advice seems inconsistent across guides. Check whether the guide is for live ingest or prerecorded uploads, and whether it assumes H.264, AV1 or H.265. YouTube’s live recommendations differ by codec and frame rate.
  • A low-motion loop still has connection trouble. A simple picture does not remove the need for a reliable connection or change YouTube’s published live table. Diagnose the uplink and monitor Live Control Room rather than assuming the loop requires a different official target.
  • The keyframe setting is rejected or mismatched. Set a two-second interval and ensure it does not exceed four seconds, as YouTube’s live encoder guidance specifies.
