Then confirm the redirect is saved on the source stream or Premiere and give viewers a few seconds for the watch page to reload after the source ends.
How YouTube Live Redirect works
Live Redirect hands viewers from an ending livestream to a selected Premiere or another channel’s livestream. YouTube also supports redirecting viewers when a Premiere ends. When the source ends, the destination is intended to start through autoplay; the receiving channel’s permission settings determine whether its content can be selected as a destination. There are two separate sides to check: the sender must qualify to send a redirect, and a different channel must allow that sender to redirect viewers to its content. Meeting the sender requirement does not override the destination channel’s permissions.
Fix the problem in this order
1. Check the sending channel’s eligibility
YouTube Help says the channel sending a redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If the redirect control is absent, confirm both conditions on the sending channel before troubleshooting the destination or playback. The requirement is stated in YouTube’s Live Redirect guidance.

2. Ask the destination channel to review its permissions
If you are redirecting to another channel’s livestream, that channel must permit your channel to send viewers to it. The receiving creator can review this in YouTube Studio under Settings → Community, in the redirect-permissions controls. YouTube Help states: “To redirect your viewers to another channel’s live stream, that channel needs to give you permission from YouTube Studio.”
The receiver can allow redirects from channels it subscribes to, all channels, or specifically approved channels. These are receiver-side access choices—not repairs to a sender’s settings. For the subscription-based option, the receiver’s subscriptions must be public. The all-channels choice cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manual-list choices; the manual list supports up to 100 channels and can be combined with the subscribed-channel option.

3. Check whether the destination is available
A permitted channel still needs an eligible destination: it must be live now or have an upcoming livestream or Premiere. If no destination satisfies both the permission and availability conditions, the picker can show no redirect options. Check that the event is scheduled on the intended channel, or that the stream is actually live, and ask the receiving creator to confirm the permission covers your channel. 4. Add the redirect to the source item
Use YouTube Studio’s currently documented route; interface labels can change:

- Open YouTube Studio → Content → Live.
- Edit the source livestream or Premiere.
- Open Customization, then find Redirect.
- Select Add and choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- Save the source item’s changes, then verify that the intended destination is selected.
YouTube also describes setting up redirects from Live Control Room. The official YouTube Creators Live Redirect walkthrough provides a visual setup reference.
5. Allow time for the handoff
After the source ends, keep the watch page open for a few seconds while it reloads. The handoff relies on autoplay; viewers who have autoplay disabled may need to press play themselves. Tell viewers in advance that the page may take a moment to move to the destination rather than asking them to leave immediately. YouTube’s Help guidance and the TeamYouTube announcement describe this behavior.

Which receiver permission should be used?

These options are controlled by the receiving channel in YouTube Studio under Settings → Community. Choose the least broad setting that supports the intended handoff.

Create or schedule the destination Premiere before configuring the source redirect. Then select that Premiere in the source item’s redirect settings. Prepare viewers for the transition: explain which Premiere they should land on and ask them to wait briefly after the source ends. If autoplay is off, they may need to start playback themselves.
Troubleshooting by symptom
- Redirect control is missing: Verify the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- Another channel is not available to select: Ask its owner to check whether their redirect permission includes your channel. If they use the subscribed-channel setting, their subscriptions need to be public.
- The channel appears, but the event does not: Confirm it has an upcoming Premiere or livestream, or is live now. A channel permission alone does not make an unavailable event selectable.
- The source ended, but viewers remain on its page: Allow a few seconds for the page to reload; viewers with autoplay disabled may need to press play. Tell them to keep the page open during the transition.
- Eligibility, permission, destination, and setup all appear correct: The available official guidance does not establish a universal device-specific fix or diagnose every playback failure. Check YouTube’s current Help and support channels for an interface change or service incident rather than changing encoders, cameras, or capture hardware; those do not resolve redirect permissions.
TeamYouTube reported fixing a technical issue with the subscribed-channel permission option in its May 3, 2022 announcement. That is historical context, not evidence of a current widespread outage.
