If viewers watching on mobile are not redirected when your YouTube live ends, first check whether they are watching the vertical version of your stream. YouTube lists Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams but unavailable for vertical live streams, which open in a full-screen mobile experience and can appear in the Shorts feed. If the affected viewers are watching a horizontal stream, check your eligibility, the destination channel’s permission, your redirect settings, and the brief reload delay.
1. Check whether viewers are watching a horizontal or vertical stream
This is the first distinction to investigate. YouTube’s format guidance lists Live Redirect as supported for horizontal live streams and unsupported for vertical live streams. Vertical streams use a full-screen mobile experience and can be discovered in Shorts, so a viewer watching that version may not receive the redirect behavior available on a horizontal stream.
- Horizontal stream: Live Redirect is listed as available.
- Vertical stream: Live Redirect is listed as unavailable.
Ask an affected viewer how they opened the stream. Being on a phone alone does not establish that the stream format is the cause: the relevant question is whether the viewer is watching the vertical version or a horizontal live stream.
2. Confirm the channel sending the redirect is eligible
YouTube’s current guidance says the creator sending viewers to another destination must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. Check these conditions on the channel that hosts the source live stream or Premiere—the one viewers should leave when it ends.

3. Check permission from the destination channel
If the destination is another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow your channel to redirect viewers to it. The destination channel can manage redirect permissions in YouTube Studio, including whether to allow channels it subscribes to, all channels, or only specifically approved channels. Ask the destination channel owner to check that your source channel is permitted.
4. Verify the redirect on the correct source item
In YouTube Studio, open Content, then Live. Edit the source video, open Customization, and check Redirect. Confirm that the intended Premiere or another channel’s live stream is selected. Make sure you are editing the source item that is actually ending, rather than a different live stream or archived item.

5. Allow a short reload after the source ends
The transition may not be instantaneous. YouTube’s settings guidance describes an approximately two-second reload interval and advises creators to tell viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends for their screens to reload to the destination. If viewers leave immediately, they may miss the transition.
6. If an eligible horizontal stream still does not redirect
If the source is horizontal, the sending channel meets the eligibility conditions, the destination has granted permission where needed, and the intended redirect is configured, the official guidance described here does not identify a particular phone model, operating system, or YouTube mobile app version as the cause. The documented format difference is not proof of a device fault.

- Confirm that the affected viewers watched the horizontal stream, not its vertical or Shorts-feed version.
- Recheck the redirect destination and the permission on the destination channel.
- Ask viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends.
- If the problem persists, record whether it affects all viewers or only particular viewing paths, then contact YouTube support with those details. The official guidance does not provide a device-by-device fix for an otherwise eligible horizontal redirect.
Do not confuse redirect eligibility with mobile-stream eligibility
YouTube’s requirements for starting a mobile live stream are separate from its requirements for sending a Live Redirect. Mobile streaming requires at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, and no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube may limit the audience of mobile streams from channels below 1,000 subscribers; after a channel reaches 1,000, lifting that audience limit can take several weeks. Those mobile-stream rules do not replace the more-than-1,000-subscriber requirement for the creator sending a redirect.
