To send viewers from your YouTube live stream to a Premiere or eligible live stream, set a destination in YouTube Studio under Content > Live > Edit > Customization > Redirect. When you end the source stream, YouTube sends viewers to that destination. The channel setting up the redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes; a different channel must also allow incoming redirects.
What Live Redirect does—and when it happens
Live Redirect is configured on the source event. It does not switch viewers while that event is still running: the redirect takes effect after you end the source stream. Viewers should allow a few seconds for the watch page to reload before the destination appears.
You can choose a Premiere or an eligible live stream. For a bhajan broadcast, this can be useful for handing viewers from one scheduled devotional program to the next. YouTube recommends setting up the Premiere before the source live stream. If the destination is another channel’s live stream, that channel has to permit incoming redirects.
Check eligibility and prepare the destination
Sending channel
- The channel sending viewers must have more than 1,000 subscribers.
- It must have no Community Guidelines strikes.
Destination
- Choose a Premiere or a live stream that YouTube makes available as a redirect destination.
- Set up the Premiere before starting the source stream.
- For a destination on another channel, confirm that channel allows incoming redirects. If the destination is unavailable, check its redirect permissions as well as your own eligibility.
Set up the redirect in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Redirect guide and confirm the sending channel meets the eligibility rules.
- In YouTube Studio, select Content, then Live.
- Find the source stream, hover over it, and select Edit.
- Open Customization. Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose the Premiere or eligible live stream viewers should land on, then save the change.
- Start and run the source stream as planned. When it is time to hand viewers off, end it using the normal stream controls. Tell viewers they may need to wait a few seconds while the watch page reloads.
Connect an encoder to the correct YouTube stream
If you use an encoder for the source broadcast, retrieve the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room and enter them in the encoder. The URL is the feed destination; the key is the credential YouTube uses to accept that feed. Verify that the correct stream is selected before starting the encoder. Keep the stream key private. If you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live controls and update the encoder with the new value before reconnecting.
Fix common redirect and encoder problems

Plan a long broadcast without assuming it is hands-off
YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says a channel needs verification and no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days to go live. It also lists platform limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These limits do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.

YouTube recommends selecting encoder quality that suits the available connection, testing before going live, and watching stream health and messages during the broadcast. Streams under 12 hours are automatically archived according to YouTube’s encoder instructions; that does not establish how every longer stream’s archive will behave. Neither these instructions nor the redirect feature guarantee continuous 24/7 uptime or automatic restart after an outage.
