YouTube’s documented requirements do not list language as a restriction. The sending channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes; the destination must allow the sender, be available for selection, and the source stream must be horizontal rather than vertical.
What Live Redirect does—and what it does not do
Live Redirect is a YouTube handoff at the end of a stream. In YouTube Studio, the creator selects a Premiere or another channel’s live stream as the destination. When the source stream ends, YouTube can move viewers to that destination. It is not a forced transfer in the middle of a broadcast.
The destination is a separate live stream or Premiere. YouTube’s published instructions do not establish that a redirect transfers chat, moderators, memberships, or the originating stream’s audience as a combined audience, nor do they guarantee a recommendation or discovery outcome.
Do language or Indian channel status affect eligibility?
YouTube’s documented Live Redirect requirements do not identify Indian-language channels as a special category and do not list a shared language as a requirement. That means language itself is not a documented blocker for a Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi, or other Indian-language channel pairing. This is not a guarantee that every pairing will appear in the selection interface; sender eligibility, destination permissions, destination availability, and stream format still apply.

Who can send a redirect, and who can receive one?
Sending channel
YouTube Help’s current eligibility guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, requires the channel sending a redirect to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. A channel that does not meet either requirement cannot send a redirect under the documented rules.
Destination channel
A destination channel can receive redirects even if it is small. In a May 3, 2022 TeamYouTube announcement, Google employee Jensen wrote: “Channels of any size will be able to receive Live redirects.” The destination still needs to permit the sending channel, and its stream or Premiere must qualify to appear as a target.

Destination permissions: what the receiving channel must allow
The destination channel owner controls who may redirect viewers to it. They can allow channels they subscribe to, allow all channels, or approve specific channels. For the subscription-based option, the destination channel’s subscriptions need to be public. The manual approval list supports up to 100 channels.
The destination owner can review these controls in YouTube Studio → Settings → Community → channel redirect permissions. If the destination channel has not allowed the sending channel under its chosen setting, the sender may not be able to select it.

Format and destination limits
Horizontal versus vertical streams
YouTube’s current live-stream feature comparison marks Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams and unavailable for vertical live feeds. If the source broadcast is vertical, plan a different handoff rather than relying on Live Redirect.
The target must be available
The redirect flow lets the sender choose a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream. TeamYouTube’s announcement says the target needs to be active or upcoming (or an upcoming Premiere) and meet the receiving channel’s permission conditions to appear as an option. A channel name alone is not enough: the relevant destination event must be available in the selection flow.

Set up a cross-channel redirect in YouTube Studio
- Check the source channel. Confirm it has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- Confirm destination permission. Ask the destination owner to review YouTube Studio → Settings → Community → channel redirect permissions and ensure the source channel is allowed. For the subscription-based option, subscriptions must be public.
- Open the source stream in Studio. Go to YouTube Studio → Content → Live, then edit the source video.
- Choose the redirect. Open Customization, find Redirect, select Add, then choose a Premiere or search for the destination channel’s live stream.
- Confirm the destination appears. The stream or Premiere must be active or upcoming as applicable and satisfy the destination’s permission settings.
- End the source stream as planned. YouTube moves viewers when the source stream ends; the redirect is not an in-stream switch.
- Tell viewers what to expect. Ask them to wait briefly after the source ends. YouTube Help suggests about two seconds for a Premiere to reload; that is guidance, not a guaranteed handoff time.
What viewers experience
Autoplay settings affect the handoff. If viewers have autoplay enabled, YouTube can move them to the selected destination after the source stream ends. If autoplay is disabled, they must click Play. TeamYouTube’s May 3, 2022 announcement states: “If your viewers have auto-play disabled they’ll have to click the play button.” Give viewers a brief pause and a clear verbal or on-screen notice before ending the source stream.
Why the other channel’s stream may not appear
- The sender is not eligible: check that the sending channel exceeds 1,000 subscribers and has no Community Guidelines strikes.
- The destination has not permitted the sender: ask its owner to review the redirect permission setting, including the public-subscriptions requirement if it allows subscribed channels.
- The target is not available: it may not be active or upcoming, or it may not be an upcoming Premiere.
- The source is vertical: YouTube’s current comparison lists Live Redirect as unavailable for vertical live feeds.
- The permission list is full: a manual allowlist is limited to 100 channels; the destination owner can adjust its settings or list.
