Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a 1440p60 SDR gaming stream, YouTube recommends 24 Mbps with AV1 or H.265, or 34 Mbps with H.264. For 1440p30, use 15 Mbps with AV1 or H.265, or 21 Mbps with H.264. Set bitrate mode to CBR, use a two-second keyframe interval, and stream over RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. These are ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that your connection or encoder can sustain the stream.
For a replay channel, plan for the archive separately: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep sessions under 12 hours if you need YouTube’s automatic archive, and keep a local recording as a backup.
Recommended 1440p settings for YouTube Live
Use the row that matches your output frame rate and encoding codec. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended and minimum ingestion bitrates; the minimum is not the quality target. Choose settings your connection and encoder can sustain, then test before relying on an unattended stream.
| Setting | 1440p60 | 1440p30 |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 recommended bitrate | 24 Mbps | 15 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 minimum bitrate | 6 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| H.264 recommended bitrate | 34 Mbps | 21 Mbps |
| H.264 minimum bitrate | 8 Mbps | 7 Mbps |
| Bitrate mode | CBR | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Ingest protocol | RTMP or RTMPS | RTMP or RTMPS |
These values come from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion at up to 60 fps. The table does not promise that any specific PC, encoder, or internet connection can maintain the selected rate.

Choose codec and frame rate deliberately
At the same resolution, 60 fps generally means more frames to encode and transmit than 30 fps. Choose 60 fps when the game’s motion and your encoder and connection support it reliably; otherwise, 30 fps is a valid 1440p option. Select a codec supported by both your encoder and hardware. The recommended bitrate differs substantially by codec, so do not copy a H.264 value into an AV1 or H.265 setup.
Other SDR video and audio guidance
YouTube’s advanced SDR guidance specifies square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, Rec. 709 color, and 8-bit depth. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. For 5.1 audio, it supports AAC over RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 48 kHz and 384 Kbps. Check that your chosen encoder and hardware support the settings you intend to use.

Configure and test the stream before making it continuous
- Set the output. In your encoder, select 2560 × 1440 output and choose 30 or 60 fps to match the applicable bitrate row above.
- Choose the codec and bitrate. Select H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 if supported for your workflow. Use the YouTube-recommended bitrate for that codec and frame rate, with CBR enabled.
- Set keyframes and transport. Set a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds. Use RTMP or RTMPS; choose RTMPS when available for encrypted transport.
- Check video and audio options. For SDR, use the applicable YouTube guidance for scan, color, bit depth, and audio. Confirm that the encoder’s settings are supported by your hardware.
- Start a representative test stream. Include gameplay-like motion and your intended audio mix. Review messages and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room while testing.
- Verify unattended behavior. Before relying on a long-running channel, confirm that the encoder, PC, network, and local recording process behave as intended during an extended test. YouTube’s encoder list names supported options, but its page does not establish that a particular encoder is best for a PC gaming workflow.
YouTube provides stream status and real-time analytics in Live Control Room. Use those signals while testing and during a live session rather than assuming that an encoder’s local “streaming” indicator means YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
Protect the replay archive from long-session limits
Keep each YouTube live session under 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, including 1440p and 2160p streams. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single uninterrupted 24/7 event is risky if you need a YouTube replay. YouTube’s guidance is explicit: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

For a replay-first workflow, end the current event before it reaches 12 hours and start a new one. Keep a separate local recording if the footage matters; YouTube recommends a local archive backup. An external drive is one possible storage location, but the capacity you need depends on the recording bitrate and how long you intend to retain files.
Do not confuse DVR rewind with the saved replay
DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream, but it is not the same as a post-stream archive. YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began. See YouTube’s live stream DVR guidance. Keeping sessions below the 12-hour threshold helps address both archive and rewind concerns, but maintain a local recording for independent preservation.

Keep a continuous channel running: local setup or cloud
What an encoder listing does—and does not—tell you
YouTube’s verified encoder list names software and services, and specifically describes CamStreamer App as supporting 24/7 continuous streams. That listing alone does not establish that it is suitable or best for a PC gaming workflow. Compare required 1440p frame rate and codec support, encoding workload, recovery behavior, and how you will make a local recording. Regardless of the method, monitor YouTube’s stream health and retain a backup when the replay is important.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that loops uploaded gaming recordings rather than going live from a camera, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Each slot streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo does not re-encode it. It also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.

Troubleshoot common 1440p live-stream problems
- YouTube reports an unstable or poor stream: The connection may not sustain the selected bitrate, or the encoder may not be delivering consistently. Check Live Control Room status and analytics, verify the actual output settings, and test at a lower supported frame rate or bitrate if needed.
- The image looks worse than expected: Confirm that the output is actually 2560 × 1440 and that the bitrate matches the codec and frame rate. Do not treat the minimum bitrate as the recommended target.
- The stream does not meet YouTube’s encoding guidance: Recheck CBR, the two-second keyframe interval, and RTMP/RTMPS configuration. Confirm the codec and advanced SDR settings against YouTube’s guidance and the capabilities of your encoder.
- The live event has no saved replay: If it ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube may not have captured it. A local backup is the recovery path if you recorded one; otherwise, the guidance does not promise that an archive can be restored.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. This is separate from whether YouTube creates a post-stream archive.
- A named encoder appears on YouTube’s list, but its fit is unclear: A verified listing is not a workflow recommendation. Check whether it supports your 1440p frame rate and codec, can handle the encoding workload, and fits your recording and recovery needs.
Copyright and replay eligibility
Before looping gameplay or other recordings, make sure you have the rights needed for the video and its audio, including music that may be part of a game capture. An encoder setting does not establish that content is cleared for a live stream or archive. Review YouTube’s applicable policies and rights information for your content before broadcasting; the technical encoder guidance above does not resolve copyright or monetization eligibility.
