For a mostly static yoga nidra scene, start with 720p30 progressive, H.264, CBR at 8 Mbps, RTMPS, 2-second keyframes, AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, and Rec. 709 SDR. Use Normal latency, leave about 20% upload headroom, and test the actual video, audio, connection, and recovery plan before going live. A 24-hour event has an important limitation: YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable.
Recommended starting settings
These are YouTube’s published ingestion recommendations for the specified format, not a guarantee that a particular encoder, scene, or network will perform well. Begin with the table, then test with the actual yoga nidra recording, including its transitions and audio.
| Setting | Starting point | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. |
| Video codec | H.264 | YouTube also supports H.265/HEVC and AV1. Use a codec your encoder can send reliably; bitrate recommendations differ by codec. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280 × 720, progressive, 30 fps | A practical lower-bandwidth starting point for a mostly static scene. YouTube lists 14 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30, compared with 8 Mbps for 720p30. Increase resolution only when the source detail warrants it and your upload connection is reliable. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube lists constant bitrate encoding. |
| Video bitrate | 8 Mbps | YouTube lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for H.264 720p30. Treat 8 Mbps as a preflight target, then assess image quality and connection stability with your real source. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube lists AAC or MP3, recommends 128 kbps stereo, and lists 44.1 kHz for stereo. Check speech and ambient sound for clipping, silence, and abrupt loop transitions. |
| Color | Rec. 709, 8-bit SDR | YouTube’s advanced settings list Rec. 709 and 8-bit for SDR. HDR is unnecessary unless the source and workflow specifically use it. |
| Latency | Normal | Lower latency can increase buffering and is less important when you do not need to interact with viewers. |
YouTube automatically transcodes live input into multiple playback formats. That does not remove the need to send a stable, correctly configured input stream. Its encoder guidance recommends testing before you start.
Calculate upload capacity before you stream
For the 8 Mbps video target, plan for at least 9.6 Mbps sustained outbound capacity. This is 8 Mbps multiplied by 1.2, leaving 20% headroom in line with YouTube’s network guidance; it is a calculation, not a separate YouTube-published bitrate recommendation. If you send primary and backup streams simultaneously, add their bitrates first, then leave 20% headroom above the total.

- Run an upload speed test at the actual streaming location. Download speed does not show whether outbound capacity is sufficient.
- Allow for other people and devices using a shared connection; their activity can reduce available upload capacity.
- Use a stable connection and monitor stream health. YouTube warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream.
Configure and test the encoder
- Create the YouTube live event in advance. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and set up the stream. Copy the intended YouTube stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Enter the video settings. Set the encoder to RTMPS, H.264, 1280 × 720 progressive at 30 fps, CBR, 8 Mbps, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Confirm that the encoder is not configured to use a longer keyframe interval than YouTube permits.
- Set audio and color. Choose AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, plus Rec. 709 8-bit SDR. Play back a representative section and listen for clipped speech, silence, unwanted level changes, and clicks or gaps at loop points.
- Send a private test and inspect the preview. Use the exact scene and audio you intend to broadcast, including fades, changes in the image, and loop transitions. Confirm the Live Control Room preview looks and sounds right before making the event public.
- Test recovery, not just the first connection. If you have a backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then confirm the player rolls to the backup. Check how your own setup behaves when a connection drops and returns.
- Check your local recording. Confirm it is being written and that a sample has playable video and audio. Keep a local archive if you need a dependable copy of the program.
- Make an oversight plan. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality during the broadcast, or arrange for someone to respond to failures. YouTube’s monitoring and failover guidance does not guarantee unattended uptime.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive and DVR limits
A live broadcast continuing is not the same as its full recording being available. YouTube’s archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its DVR guidance separately says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.
Do not count on one uninterrupted 24-hour event to create a complete YouTube archive or provide full rewind. If a platform archive matters, consider programming shorter sessions with breaks between them, and keep a local recording as a backup. The cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee that a single event will remain uninterrupted for 24 hours or that it will produce a complete archive.

Is a hardware encoder required?
No. YouTube supports software encoders as well as standalone hardware encoders. For a static prerecorded yoga nidra stream, a dedicated hardware encoder is an option, not a universal requirement. Choose based on whether the encoder can loop or schedule the intended source, send the needed codec and RTMPS stream, recover after interruptions, record locally if needed, and operate with the available bandwidth and oversight.
YouTube’s encoder guidance names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. That establishes it as a documented service path, not an endorsement or an uptime guarantee. The available guidance does not establish a universal maximum duration for all encoder streams or comparative reliability rankings for software, hardware, and cloud approaches.

Copyright and channel checks
Before making the stream public, confirm that you have the necessary rights to every video, music track, spoken recording, image, and other element in the program. A license for a song or recording may not necessarily cover every use, territory, or monetized broadcast; check the terms that apply to your material. Also review YouTube’s current rules on copyright and reused content before relying on a repetitive, continuously looped program for channel eligibility or monetization. Technical encoder settings do not establish permission to use content or determine whether a channel qualifies.
Use the copyright safety checklist as a preflight aid, not as a substitute for checking the rights and platform rules that apply to your content.

Common problems and what to check
- Stream health is poor or the feed disconnects: Verify sustained outbound capacity at the streaming location, including the 20% headroom target; check whether other users are consuming bandwidth; and inspect the encoder’s connection, bitrate, and stream key.
- The image breaks up or looks soft: Confirm that the encoder is actually sending the selected resolution and bitrate. Test the source at 720p30 and check both image quality and connection stability before raising resolution or bitrate.
- Audio is silent, distorted, or changes abruptly: Check the selected audio input, AAC stereo settings, levels, and sample rate. Listen to a full loop transition as well as a representative section.
- The Live Control Room preview does not show the expected feed: Check that the encoder is sending to the intended YouTube stream URL and that the corresponding stream key is correct. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The broadcast remains live but there is no complete archive or rewind: Check the event duration. YouTube warns that capture may fail beyond 12 hours and that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours; retain a local recording and plan shorter events if those features matter.
- The stream stops and does not recover as expected: Check the connection and encoder status, then test recovery and backup failover before the next long broadcast. Do not assume a setup will restart correctly without testing it.
