A change to your ISP-assigned public IP does not, by itself, mean your YouTube stream key has changed. The active connection from your encoder to YouTube may have been interrupted at the same time as the IP change, so first identify what failed; then verify the stream URL, key, and protocol before resetting anything.

Why does my YouTube live stream disconnect when my IP changes?

Your encoder sends video to YouTube using an ingest server URL and a stream key. An ISP changing your public IP may coincide with a brief connection loss or route change, which can interrupt that active connection. That is general network reasoning, not a cause established for any particular Indian ISP: YouTube’s guidance does not explain how a specific provider’s dynamic-IP policy affects Live.

A disconnect alone does not show that your stream key is invalid. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address,” and documents how to view or reset one, but does not link key validity to the creator’s public IP. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

Diagnose the failure before changing settings

  1. Check both ends. Look at your encoder’s status or log and YouTube Live Control Room. Determine whether the encoder lost its outgoing connection, stopped sending, or received an ingest or configuration error.
  2. Note the timing. Record when the public IP changed and when the stream dropped. Their close timing is useful evidence, but does not prove the IP change caused the failure.
  3. Check connectivity. Establish whether the internet connection briefly dropped or routes changed during the ISP event. If the cause remains unclear, ask the ISP whether the IP change involved a brief outage or route reset.

Verify the YouTube URL and stream key

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and check the current stream URL and selected stream key.
  2. Compare them with the destination URL and key configured in your encoder. Confirm that both values match; YouTube’s encoder setup requires the URL and key to be entered in the encoder. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  3. If you recently changed a key, update the encoder with the new value. Do not reset a key merely because your public IP changed.

Check RTMPS, encoder support, and the destination

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS/SSL to encrypt the connection. Confirm that the encoder supports RTMPS and that its destination is the RTMPS URL shown for your stream, rather than an RTMP URL. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance for the SSL error it describes includes trying port 443 in the URL or encoder’s port setting. These checks address the documented setup and error conditions; they are not a guaranteed fix for every interruption. YouTube Help: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS

TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router, 2025 PCMag Editors' Choice
  • Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router - Up to 5400 Mbps WiFi for faster browsing, streaming, gaming and downloading, all at the same time(6 GHz: 2402 Mbps;5 GHz: 2402 Mbps;2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps)
  • WiFi 6E Unleashed – The 6 GHz band brings more bandwidth, faster speeds, and near-zero latency; Enables more responsive gaming and video chatting
  • Connect More Devices—True Tri-Band and OFDMA technology increase capacity by 4 times to enable simultaneous transmission to more devices
  • Unique Design, More RAM, Better Processing - A unique housing design provides optimal heat dissipation, combined with a 1.0 GHz dual-core CPU and 512 MB High-Speed Memory, the AXE75 is designed for long-term reliability and performance.
  • EasyMesh-compatible - Extend network range even more by adding EasyMesh-compatible routers, extenders, or wireless powerline adapters for a seamless, whole-home connection. Eliminate dead zones, drops, and lag as you move across your home.

RTMPS encryption does not establish that an active session will survive a source-IP change. YouTube’s settings guidance also mentions HLS if an encoder lacks the cited RTMP capabilities, but switching to HLS is not an automatic drop-in repair: the encoder and YouTube ingest configuration must support the selected method. See YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Reset the key only for a key or configuration problem

If you suspect the key was compromised, or the encoder still cannot start and the evidence points to a key or configuration issue, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and replace the old value in the encoder. YouTube’s troubleshooting instructions cover checking and updating the key: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream. A new public IP alone is not a reason to reset credentials.

Test recovery on the affected ISP connection

  1. Read the current documentation for your encoder and check its reconnect behavior. Settings differ by encoder; YouTube does not specify a universal reconnect interval or promise recovery after an IP change.
  2. Before an important broadcast, run a controlled test on the same ISP and network path. Briefly interrupt the connection, then observe whether the encoder reconnects and whether YouTube resumes receiving the stream.
  3. Keep the correct stream URL and key available so you can check configuration if the test fails. Retain encoder logs and note the IP-change time if you need to report the issue to your ISP.

Common symptoms and what to do

What you see What to check Next action
The encoder reports a dropped connection near the IP change Whether connectivity briefly failed or routes changed Check the ISP connection, then inspect encoder reconnect behavior and test it on that network.
YouTube or the encoder reports an ingest or configuration error Current stream URL and key in Studio versus the encoder Correct the destination or key; reset the key only if there is a concrete credential or configuration reason.
An SSL error occurs while connecting RTMPS URL, encoder RTMPS support, and port setting Use the correct RTMPS destination; for the SSL error described by YouTube, try port 443.
The encoder continues to time out after configuration checks Encoder logs, event timing, and whether the ISP event included an outage or route reset Save the logs and timestamps, then ask the ISP about the connection event.

Or let it run in the cloud

For uploaded videos or playlists intended to loop on YouTube, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. This is a different workflow from diagnosing a live encoder’s direct connection; it is for keeping uploaded video playing as a YouTube live stream, not broadcasting from a camera.
