Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a 720p60 YouTube Live gaming stream, target 8 Mbps with H.264 or 6 Mbps with AV1 or H.265. YouTube’s stated minimums are lower—3 Mbps for H.264 and 2 Mbps for AV1/H.265—but those are minimums, not recommended targets. Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and enough outbound upload capacity to maintain the stream reliably.
What bitrate should I use for 720p 60fps on YouTube Live?
| Ingest codec | YouTube-recommended bitrate | YouTube minimum |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 | 6 Mbps | 2 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current live-ingest recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026. Choose the row matching the codec your encoder actually sends; do not assume every computer or encoder supports AV1 or H.265 for live output. The minimum is a floor, not a quality target. Use the recommended rate if your upload connection can sustain it with headroom. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists the bitrate figures by resolution, frame rate, and codec.
Set the encoder for 720p60
- Resolution and frame rate: Set the output to 1280×720, progressive, at 60 frames per second. Select a codec supported by your encoder and system.
- Bitrate control: Choose constant bitrate (CBR) and enter 8 Mbps for H.264 or 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265.
- Keyframes: Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Transport: Use RTMPS when your encoder offers it; YouTube recommends the secure transport.
- Stream key: In YouTube Studio, open the live control room, create or select a stream, and copy its stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private; anyone with access may be able to send video to your channel. Verify the destination and stream title before starting.
Exact encoder labels vary by software and version, so match the settings by function rather than relying on a particular preset name. YouTube receives the ingest and transcodes it into formats suited to viewers’ devices and network conditions; your selected bitrate is the encoder-to-YouTube feed, not a promise that every viewer will watch at that bitrate. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers the general live settings.
Check upload capacity and test before going live
Bitrate uses outbound upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% spare capacity and checking upload—not download—speed. At the recommended settings, the video alone is 8 Mbps for H.264 or 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265; audio and any other simultaneous traffic also use capacity. If sending primary and backup streams, include both in the total. YouTube’s guidance is to ensure the combined stream bitrate stays below available upload bandwidth and to leave room. See YouTube’s bandwidth guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- 【1080P HD High Quality】Capture resolution up to 1080p for video source and it is ideal for all HDMI devices such as PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, DVDs, DSLR, Camera, Security Camera and set top box. Note: Video input supports 4K30/60Hz and 1080p120/144Hz. Does not support 4K120Hz/144Hz. Output supports up to 2K30Hz.
- 【Plug and Play】No driver or external power supply required, true PnP. Once plugged in, the device is identified automatically as a webcam. Detect input and adjust output automatically. Won't occupy CPU, optional audio capture. No freeze with correct setting.
- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- Run a representative test before the event using the same resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, audio, and kind of in-game motion you expect during the broadcast.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators while the test runs; a single speed-test result does not establish that the connection will remain stable throughout a broadcast.
- If the stream shows instability, first reduce competing upload traffic or improve the connection. If needed, lower the bitrate and retest rather than running at a value your connection cannot sustain.
Turn live gaming moments into highlights and a playlist
Mark and create highlights
During the live stream, use stream markers to note promising moments. In YouTube Studio, create a highlight, trim the recording around the moment, set its title, privacy, and description, then create it. A solo streamer can mark moments while playing and edit the highlights afterward; a team can create them during the broadcast. YouTube’s highlights help page explains the workflow.
Organize the clips in a playlist
In YouTube Studio, create a playlist, choose its title, description, and visibility, then add the highlights from your channel library. Arrange the videos in the order viewers should watch them. You can change the order later and add videos using search, a URL, or your library. YouTube’s playlist help page covers creating and editing playlists.

Keep a separate recording for long streams
YouTube may automatically archive a live stream that runs for less than 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep a local recording if the broadcast matters or may exceed that limit. Do not treat the platform archive as your only copy. YouTube’s live archive guidance explains the 12-hour caveat.
Live bitrate is different from upload bitrate
The live figures above apply to the encoder’s ingest feed. They are not the same as recommended settings for uploading a finished highlight file. For 720p high-frame-rate H.264 video uploads, YouTube recommends 7.5 Mbps; for 720p60 H.264 live ingest, it recommends 8 Mbps. Use the guidance for the workflow you are performing. YouTube’s upload encoding recommendations list the separate upload guidance.

Common 720p60 streaming problems
- Dropped frames or unstable stream health: Your outbound capacity may be insufficient or fluctuating. Confirm upload speed, leave the recommended headroom, stop other upload-heavy activity, and retest at the intended bitrate.
- Unclear or inconsistent bitrate target: Check the selected ingest codec. H.264 uses the 8 Mbps recommended figure; AV1/H.265 uses 6 Mbps.
- Playback looks less smooth than expected: Confirm the encoder output is actually 60 fps and progressive at 1280×720, then inspect stream health during motion-heavy gameplay.
- Stream will not connect: Check that the encoder is using the intended YouTube server and current stream key, and that the key has not been mistyped or revoked. Use RTMPS where available.
- Missing archive after a long broadcast: YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Preserve a local recording for long sessions.
Copyright and eligibility still apply to gaming highlights
A technically stable stream does not establish that gameplay, music, overlays, or other material is cleared for broadcast or monetization. Use material you have rights to use and review YouTube’s rules for the specific content and channel. YouTube’s live-stream bitrate and archive guidance does not itself answer whether a particular game’s music or reused clip is permitted.
