YouTube offers official tools and learning resources to help creators improve their channels, but growth and monetization eligibility are different challenges. To earn through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), a channel must meet the applicable threshold, satisfy account and policy requirements, and pass a channel review. Start with YouTube Studio > Earn for your channel’s current eligibility, available features, and application status; thresholds alone do not guarantee acceptance.

What YouTube provides for creators

YouTube’s creator resources include program guidance, tutorials, troubleshooting help, and monetization tools. They can help you understand platform requirements and make informed choices, but they do not establish a guaranteed formula for audience growth.

  • YouTube Partner Program overview: eligibility, application steps, and what happens during review.
  • YouTube Creators and the Creator Tips hub: official creator education and tips.
  • YouTube Help Community and YouTube’s official tutorial and troubleshooting channels: places to seek help with platform questions.
  • YouTube Studio analytics: use your own channel data to assess how viewers respond to your videos. The official resources do not promise that any particular tactic will produce growth.

If you are not eligible for YPP yet, YouTube’s overview points to its Creator Tips hub and other official learning and help resources. In Studio’s Earn area, you can also opt to be notified when your channel becomes eligible.

What do I need to join the YouTube Partner Program?

Standard eligibility for ad revenue

YouTube’s current YPP overview lists two threshold paths for standard ad-revenue eligibility:

  • 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours in the previous 12 months; or
  • 1,000 subscribers and 10 million valid public Shorts views in the previous 90 days.

Shorts Feed watch time does not count toward the 4,000-hour watch-time threshold. The relevant counts are qualified public activity, not simply every view or hour shown in a general channel total. Check YouTube’s current YPP eligibility guidance and the Earn area for how your channel’s progress is counted.

Earlier access to some YPP features

In eligible countries and regions, expanded YPP access can begin at 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 valid public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 3 million valid public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. This earlier threshold can unlock certain fan-funding and Shopping features; it does not replace the higher standard thresholds for ad-revenue sharing. Consult YouTube’s expanded YPP availability and requirements to confirm whether it applies in your location.

Account, location, and review requirements

Meeting a threshold is only one part of applying. YouTube also lists these requirements for standard YPP:

  • Your channel must be based in a country or region where YPP is available.
  • You must have no active Community Guidelines strikes.
  • 2-Step Verification must be turned on for your Google Account.
  • Your channel must have access to advanced features.
  • You must have one active AdSense for YouTube account linked to the channel, or set one up through YouTube Studio.
  • You must follow YouTube’s monetization policies and applicable terms.

When the channel is eligible, open YouTube Studio > Earn, apply, accept the base terms, and link or set up AdSense for YouTube through Studio. YouTube then reviews the channel. Its overview says, “If it meets our policies and guidelines, we’ll accept your channel into YPP.” Automated systems and human reviewers consider the channel as a whole, and partners can be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Requirements, regional availability, thresholds, and terms can change. The official guidance accessed on October 3, 2026 also describes changes scheduled to begin on February 1, 2027. Those are announced future changes, not current October 2026 eligibility requirements. Follow notices in Studio and check the YPP overview for current requirements and any terms you need to accept.

How can I earn money on YouTube?

YPP includes several possible revenue routes. Access depends on eligibility, location, applicable policies, and feature-specific requirements; being a YPP participant does not mean every feature will be available to every channel.

Revenue route Format or source Published share and important qualification
Watch Page ads Ads associated with eligible long-form videos and live streams on Watch Pages YouTube states creators receive 55% of net revenue under the Watch Page Monetization Module. This is a module-specific share, not a promised earnings amount.
Shorts Feed ads Eligible ad revenue allocated to creators from the Shorts Creator Pool YouTube states creators receive 45% of their allocated Creator Pool revenue under the Shorts Monetization Module. Allocation is based on the creator’s share of views; it is not 45% of all ads shown across Shorts.
YouTube Premium Revenue associated with eligible Premium members’ viewing YouTube lists Premium revenue as a monetization route; the earnings overview does not state a universal fixed creator percentage for it.
Channel memberships Recurring fan support with channel-specific benefits YouTube states creators receive 70% of net revenue under the Commerce Product Module.
Super Chat and Super Stickers Viewer purchases that highlight messages or stickers during eligible live interactions YouTube states creators receive 70% of net revenue under the Commerce Product Module.
Super Thanks Viewer support on eligible videos and Shorts YouTube states creators receive 70% of net revenue under the Commerce Product Module.
Shopping Eligible creators can connect an official merchandise store and, where available, promote products from other brands Feature access and terms vary; YouTube does not state a universal creator revenue share for Shopping in the cited earnings overview.

The published shares above are the module-specific rates in YouTube’s partner earnings overview. Actual earnings depend on the revenue generated and, for Shorts, allocation from the Creator Pool. YouTube cautions: “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.”

What can prevent monetization?

Channels must comply with YouTube’s monetization policies, Community Guidelines, terms, copyright requirements, and applicable AdSense or commerce policies. Reviewers assess the channel as a whole, not just the video that helped it cross a threshold, and YouTube says it continues monitoring partner channels. Content earning ad revenue must also meet advertiser-friendly guidelines.

For Shorts, views are eligible for revenue sharing only after a creator accepts the Shorts Monetization Module; views from before acceptance are not eligible under YouTube’s policy. YouTube identifies fake or artificial views, non-original compilations or reuploads without original additions, and views on content that violates advertiser-friendly guidelines as examples that are ineligible for Shorts payment. See YouTube’s Shorts monetization policies and channel monetization policies for details.

How to choose a practical growth and earnings path

There is no universally best monetization route in the official guidance. Use these questions to decide what to work toward, then verify feature access in Studio:

  • Which format do you publish? Long-form videos and live streams may fit Watch Page ads and Premium viewing; Shorts have a distinct revenue-sharing system and eligibility rules.
  • How does your audience participate? Memberships, Supers, and Shopping depend on the relevant feature being available and on meeting its separate requirements.
  • Where is your channel based? YPP and individual features are subject to country- or region-specific availability. Check the current lists rather than assuming a threshold is enough.
  • What do your own analytics show? Use channel data to evaluate formats and viewer response; YouTube’s general creator resources do not promise a universal growth tactic.
  • Are you compliant and ready to apply? Review originality, copyright, advertiser-friendliness, account security, and linked payment-account requirements before applying.

For a YouTube channel built around prerecorded videos that should play continuously as a live stream, a cloud service is a separate operational choice—not a YPP shortcut. StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos looping on YouTube from the cloud; it does not create camera-based live broadcasts or guarantee monetization. For Indian creators, UPI is supported.

Or let it run in the cloud

  1. Upload a recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.

Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. This does not change YouTube’s eligibility, copyright, or monetization rules; check the copyright safety checklist before streaming material you do not own or have permission to use. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
