Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Short answer: YouTube Live is where your audience watches; OBS Studio is software that can produce and send a stream to YouTube. They are not alternatives in the strict sense—you can use OBS with YouTube Live. For a 24/7 broadcast, the key choice is whether you want to run and recover the encoder yourself on a computer, or use a cloud service that keeps uploaded video streaming while your computer is off.
What YouTube Live and OBS each do
YouTube Live is the platform: it hosts the broadcast, provides the viewing page and chat, and applies YouTube’s live-stream and monetization rules. OBS Studio is an encoder and production tool. It can assemble scenes and send video and audio to YouTube. YouTube explicitly supports encoder workflows for screen sharing, gameplay, external audio and video hardware, and more advanced productions: YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
So the practical comparison is not “YouTube or OBS.” It is “Which way should I produce and keep a YouTube stream running?” OBS can be a good fit when you need a custom desktop production; a simple stream does not necessarily need it.
Which 24/7 workflow fits your channel?
| Workflow | Best fit | What you operate |
|---|---|---|
| OBS sending to YouTube Live | You want scenes, overlays, screen sharing, gameplay, live voice, or hardware inputs. | A computer running OBS, its power and cooling, and a stable outbound internet connection for the duration of the broadcast. |
| Cloud service streaming uploaded video | You want prerecorded video or a playlist to repeat without keeping a home computer running. | Your uploaded files, playlist, and YouTube stream connection; the provider operates the stream from its cloud service. |
Neither method removes your responsibility for the content, rights, channel eligibility, or YouTube policy compliance. YouTube and OBS documentation do not establish one universal broadband speed or PC specification for every 24/7 setup. Before scheduling a launch, test your chosen output, connection, power arrangements, and restart or recovery plan.

Can you run YouTube 24/7 with OBS?
Yes. OBS can send a continuous stream to YouTube, provided the computer, OBS, power, and internet connection remain available. If any of those fail, the broadcast can stop; plan how you will notice and restart it. A continuous stream also creates an archive limitation: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its guidance recommends keeping a local archive backup if the replay matters: Archive live streams.
For a replay you need to preserve, consider shorter broadcasts rather than relying on one uninterrupted 24-hour session, and record locally as a separate backup. Do not assume YouTube will save a complete 24/7 broadcast.

Set up an OBS-to-YouTube stream
- Check that your channel can go live. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it and confirm access well before your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create and then Go live, and set up the stream. YouTube provides a stream key and connection details for the encoder workflow. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in Studio and update OBS.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the stream key using the available connection method. Confirm the selected broadcast in YouTube Studio before going live. OBS’s official help portal is at obsproject.com/help.
- Compose and check your output. Build the scenes and sources you actually need—such as a video source, overlays, or microphone—and preview them. YouTube and OBS sources in this assignment do not specify a universal resolution, bitrate, frame rate, or keyframe interval suitable for every connection and production. Use the output settings appropriate to your video and connection, and test them before a long session rather than assuming a setting will work everywhere.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube Studio for the incoming signal and stream status. Keep a plan for power loss, internet interruption, OBS failure, and a stream that stops unexpectedly; a computer-based encoder depends on the local setup staying operational.
- Record separately if the replay is important. Enable a local recording in OBS if you need a dependable copy. Check that the recording destination has enough available storage and that the file is usable; YouTube may not archive a stream exceeding 12 hours.
Rules that matter for a continuous stream
Live access and channel readiness
Verify the channel, check for any live-stream restriction within the previous 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. These are YouTube-wide live-stream requirements, not India-specific OBS settings: live-stream eligibility and encoder setup.
Watch hours are not the same as monetization
Public live content may contribute to eligible public watch hours, but running a stream does not automatically monetize a channel or guarantee that every viewing minute counts. For standard ad-revenue eligibility, YouTube’s YPP overview lists routes of 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Meeting a threshold is not acceptance: the channel must also satisfy applicable requirements and pass policy review. Check the current details at YouTube’s YouTube Partner Program overview.

YouTube reviews channel content under monetization rules, including its reused-content policy. Material without meaningful original commentary, substantive change, or educational or entertainment value may be ineligible. Its July 15, 2025 policy note clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered by the inauthentic-content policy: YouTube channel monetization policies. A loop is not a shortcut around those rules.
India-specific monetization checks
Creators in India should use YouTube Studio’s Earn section to see which features their own channel can access. Features have separate eligibility conditions and may depend on age, country or region, contract, and policy status; being in India or starting a live stream does not itself establish eligibility for every ad or fan-funding feature. See YouTube’s India-localized monetization guidance.

Rights and community rules
You are responsible for having the rights needed for material in both live and archived content, including music. Check rights for every continuous element—music, ambient audio, visuals, and third-party video—and follow applicable laws and YouTube’s Community Guidelines. YouTube’s live-stream terms are at YouTube Terms of Service.

- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and live-stream restrictions, then confirm activation has completed. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube Studio is not receiving OBS video: Confirm OBS is connected to YouTube, the correct stream key is in use, and the broadcast is selected and ready in Studio. If the key may have been exposed, replace it and update OBS.
- The stream stops during a long session: Check whether the computer lost power, OBS closed or stalled, or the outbound connection failed. Restore the local cause and restart the encoder; build monitoring and a recovery procedure into the plan.
- The full replay is missing: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use shorter broadcasts when a YouTube archive matters and keep a local recording if you need a copy.
- A stream is live but does not earn as expected: Review the channel’s status in Studio’s Earn section and check YPP eligibility and policy compliance. A live stream itself does not confer monetization.
- A rights or monetization concern appears: Review each audio and video element’s rights and assess whether the channel’s content meets YouTube’s rules for original, valuable material. Do not assume that looping or having permission to stream automatically satisfies monetization policy.
