What to check first when a YouTube 24/7 stream stops on BSNL broadband
Work from observable evidence rather than guessing at the cause. YouTube recommends checking the encoder’s output and outbound connection, and its Live Control Room shows stream status, errors and instructions.
- Record the failure. Note the time, whether the encoder disconnected or YouTube ended the event, and the wording beside the health indicator in Live Control Room. Check the stream-status metrics as well. Save the message before resetting the encoder or changing settings; it may help distinguish an ingestion or configuration issue from a connection problem. - Inspect the encoder and source. Check the encoder preview, logs and CPU load. Confirm that the video and audio continue to play as expected, and, if you record locally, check whether the archive is still growing. YouTube recommends checking image and sound in the encoder; if its output looks healthy, investigate the outbound connection. Format, bitrate and audio configuration can also cause ingestion errors.
- Measure upload under realistic conditions. Run an upload-oriented speed test while the usual stream setup and other household or office traffic are representative. Repeat at different times if results vary. Compare sustained upload capacity with the combined video and audio bitrate, not with download speed alone.
- Change one thing at a time. If upload is marginal or unstable, lower the resolution or bitrate to a supported setting, then observe whether the health errors change. If the encoder and source look healthy but connection tests fail, contact BSNL with timestamps, test results and the exact YouTube error text.
Does the evidence point to BSNL, the encoder or YouTube?
A stream interruption can occur at several points in the chain: the source file or playlist, encoder, local device, internet connection, or YouTube’s ingest. YouTube’s troubleshooting advice separates a healthy encoder from a possible outbound-connection issue. Its guidance says: “If you find issues with your internet connection: Contact your internet service provider to troubleshoot.” That is a reason to escalate a demonstrated connection fault, not proof that BSNL caused every disconnection.

How much upload speed does a 24/7 stream need?
Use the encoder’s configured total bitrate and measure actual, sustained upload. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound, so a fast download result does not establish that a connection can hold a live stream. It recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; a network disruption can break a stream. Read YouTube’s streaming tips.
YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate is 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are encoder-setting recommendations, not guarantees about line speed or uninterrupted service. Applying YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance to a 5 Mbps video payload gives 6 Mbps of available upload for that video payload; audio and other network traffic add to the total. The calculation is guidance, not a promise about any BSNL plan.

- Use upload measurements taken during conditions similar to the stream, and repeat them if results fluctuate.
- Compare available upload to the combined audio and video bitrate, then leave headroom for other traffic and variation.
- If the measured connection cannot reliably support the chosen settings, lower bitrate or resolution and check whether stream health improves.
- Do not infer the subscriber’s actual upload capacity from a plan’s advertised or capped speed alone.

Prepare the encoder and test before restarting a long stream
A 24/7 stream needs more than a bitrate that works for a brief test. Before relying on the setup, test the actual video or playlist with realistic movement and audio, and watch stream health while it runs. YouTube also advises checking backup encoder failover when it is configured.

- Confirm that the source continues playing and that both image and sound are present in the encoder preview.
- Check the encoder’s configured resolution, frame rate, codec, video bitrate, audio settings and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current recommendations.
- Run a test with the same material and settings intended for continuous streaming. Watch CPU load, encoder logs, stream status and health messages.
- If you use a backup encoder, verify its failover configuration rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
- After a settings change, run another test and compare the resulting health messages and upload stability. Change one setting at a time so the result is useful.
When and how to contact BSNL
Contact BSNL when repeatable upload or connectivity testing indicates a fault, especially when the encoder output appears healthy. Share the time of each interruption, speed-test results showing upload, the exact Live Control Room message, and whether the issue reproduced on a controlled alternate connection. Ask BSNL to check the service for your specific plan, access type and location; the title alone cannot identify those details.
BSNL lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fiber, broadband and landline customer care. Its official self-care portal also supports complaint booking and status checks. Confirm current contact and portal options when you report the issue.

Do not assume every BSNL plan has the same speed
Published BharatNet FTTH tariff pages show examples, not a universal BSNL service specification or the terms of an individual subscriber’s connection. One page lists Rural Entry at 25 Mbps up to 700 GB, then up to 2 Mbps; Fibre Home WiFi at 40 Mbps up to 1,400 GB, then up to 4 Mbps; and Fibre Value Plus OTT at 150 Mbps up to 5,000 GB, then up to 10 Mbps. Copyright and continuous pre-recorded streams
If the stream plays uploaded recordings or a playlist, make sure you have the rights needed to use the video and audio on YouTube. A technically stable connection does not resolve copyright or channel-policy issues. Review YouTube’s notices and applicable rules if a stream ends for a policy reason, and use the copyright safety checklist before running material continuously.
