Start by finding where the stream is breaking—not by changing random BSNL router settings. Check the timestamped messages in YouTube Live Control Room, compare them with your encoder’s status, and measure sustained upload capacity. Then test Ethernet against Wi-Fi and verify the encoder’s bitrate, keyframe interval, and RTMPS settings. The right router menus depend on the exact BSNL router or ONT model and firmware; there is no universal setting established for this problem.

First identify what is disconnecting

A viewer playback issue, a YouTube ingest problem, and an encoder losing its outbound connection can look similar from the outside. Their fixes are different, so note what each system reports before making a change.

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room. Check stream health and read any specific status messages. Note the time each error appears; YouTube says to monitor stream health and review messages during an event. YouTube Help: Monitor your live stream.
  2. Check the encoder at the same time. Record whether it reports a dropped connection, is still sending data, or appears healthy. Compare encoder logs with the Live Control Room timestamps and, if available, router logs.
  3. Ask affected viewers what they see. Distinguish one viewer, several viewers on the same internet connection, and viewers on unrelated connections. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance uses this distinction; reports from viewers on different connections can point toward an encoder issue. If the encoder appears healthy, investigate its outbound internet connection. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream issues.

Keep the date and time, exact error wording, and whether the encoder was wired or on Wi-Fi. Those details make it possible to match the symptom to the relevant logs instead of guessing.

Check upload capacity and bitrate headroom

Measure sustained upload speed, not just advertised download speed. Your stream competes with other devices and users on the connection, so a speed test taken while the network is otherwise idle may not represent conditions during a 24/7 broadcast.

YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth margin. Its guidance says the available upload capacity should accommodate the primary stream, any backup stream, and that margin. YouTube Help: Streaming tips and YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

  • Compare the encoder’s configured bitrate with measured upload capacity under normal household or studio use.
  • Include a backup encoder’s bitrate if one is sending a backup stream.
  • Check whether cloud backups, downloads, video calls, or other devices use upload bandwidth during the disconnects.
  • If upload capacity fluctuates, reduce the stream bitrate or reduce competing network use, then watch whether the timestamped errors stop.

There is no single correct bitrate for every continuous stream: it depends on the resolution, encoder configuration, and actual available upload capacity.

Verify encoder settings before changing the router

Check the settings in the encoder that sends the stream to YouTube. YouTube’s current encoder guide specifies constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with the interval not exceeding four seconds. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

  • SC Fiber Adapter Included - You get a Free SC-APC Fiber Optic Coupler for extending your cables to get the exact distance you want
  • Clean and Ready to use - Our cables are a plug and play solution for in-home fiber as Dirty fiber cables are the number 1 cause of low speeds
  • 50% more protection - Fiber Can break easily, so we add an extra 1mm of Protection to the cables jacket which helps protect it from damage, Most cables are 2mm thick, FiberShacks are 3mm thick
  • Bitrate: Set a bitrate appropriate to the stream’s resolution and within measured upload capacity, including headroom for other traffic.
  • Rate control: Use CBR as YouTube specifies.
  • Keyframe interval: Use two seconds where available; do not exceed four seconds.
  • Stream destination and key: Confirm the encoder is pointed at the intended YouTube stream and is using the current stream key. Treat the key as a secret: do not paste it into public posts or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.

Change one setting at a time and observe Live Control Room and encoder status. That makes it easier to tell whether a change affected the fault.

Test Ethernet against Wi-Fi

If the encoder is connected over Wi-Fi, test it over a stable wired Ethernet connection when practical. This helps isolate the wireless link; it does not prove the router is faulty, and Ethernet is not a guaranteed fix. YouTube’s failover testing instructions use unplugging the primary encoder’s Ethernet cable to check whether a backup encoder takes over. YouTube Help: Test failover.

  1. Connect the encoder directly to the router or ONT using Ethernet, if your setup permits.
  2. Keep the stream resolution and bitrate unchanged during the comparison.
  3. Watch for new disconnects and compare their timestamps with the Wi-Fi test.
  4. If you use a backup encoder, follow YouTube’s failover procedure and confirm the backup takes over as expected.

If Ethernet is stable while Wi-Fi is not, investigate wireless coverage, interference, and the encoder’s location before changing WAN or NAT settings. If both links fail at the same times, keep checking the encoder, upload capacity, and provider path.

  • Plug in computers, game consoles, streaming players, and more with 4 x 1G Ethernet ports

Handle RTMPS timeouts narrowly

If the encoder reports “connection timed out” or an SSL certificate error, verify that it is configured for the correct YouTube RTMPS URL and that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube mentions port 443 in its SSL certificate error troubleshooting. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream issues.

That guidance is not a reason to add generic inbound port forwarding or disable router security for every disconnect. Only investigate a specific network rule when the error and your router documentation point to it.

When to inspect BSNL router settings

Router settings vary by make, model, firmware, and network topology. The available YouTube guidance does not identify BSNL-specific WAN keep-alive, NAT timeout, DNS, or Wi-Fi values for this symptom. Do not apply a setting from another router’s menu or assume that all BSNL FTTH installations use the same equipment.

  • Model Number : Fit For HG8310M

Before contacting BSNL or changing a model-specific option, collect:

  • Router or ONT make and exact model, plus firmware version.
  • Whether the encoder connects by Ethernet or Wi-Fi and how the ONT, router, and any switches are arranged.
  • Live Control Room and encoder error wording with timestamps.
  • Measured upload capacity, configured stream bitrate, and whether other devices were using the connection.
  • Whether the issue occurs on both wired and wireless connections.

If the evidence points to an outbound connectivity or ISP-path issue, YouTube advises contacting the internet service provider. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream issues. Share the timestamps and logs rather than asking for a generic “24/7 streaming” router preset.

Common symptoms and what to check next

What you observe What it suggests Next check
Live Control Room reports a stream-health error and the encoder reports a disconnect at the same time. The ingest connection or encoder-to-YouTube path may be failing. Check the encoder’s bitrate, RTMPS destination, upload headroom, and timestamps.
The encoder appears healthy, but viewers on unrelated connections report trouble. YouTube’s guidance says this pattern can indicate an encoder issue. Review encoder output and Live Control Room messages.
One viewer, or viewers sharing one connection, report playback trouble while the stream remains healthy. The issue may be limited to that viewer or shared network. Compare reports from unrelated connections and check Live Control Room before changing the broadcast setup.
Wi-Fi drops, while a wired comparison remains stable. The wireless link is a candidate cause, not proof of a router fault. Keep the encoder wired if practical; inspect Wi-Fi coverage and interference.
Disconnects continue on Ethernet and upload headroom is inadequate. Available upstream capacity or competing traffic may be insufficient. Reduce bitrate or other upload use, then observe the stream again.
An RTMPS or SSL error appears. The destination URL, RTMPS support, or a specific connection rule may need attention. Verify the RTMPS URL and encoder support; use port 443 guidance only for the SSL error case described by YouTube.
