XSplit Broadcaster’s data use depends on the combined video and audio bitrate you send to YouTube and how long you stream. A steady 6 Mbps stream uses about 2.7 GB per hour, 64.8 GB per day, or 1,944 GB over 30 days, before network overhead and other internet use. These are decimal-GB estimates, not a fixed XSplit charge or a measurement of a particular Indian broadband plan.
How to estimate XSplit data use
Use this formula, with video and audio bitrates added together:
Approximate outbound data (GB) = combined stream bitrate (Mbps) × 0.45 × streaming hours.
The 0.45 factor converts a sustained megabit-per-second rate into decimal gigabytes per hour: one megabit per second for 3,600 seconds equals 450 megabytes, or 0.45 GB. For a full day, multiply the hourly estimate by 24; for 30 days of continuous streaming, multiply by 720.

These figures are calculations assuming a constant combined bitrate and decimal GB. If a router or provider reports GiB or TiB, its displayed total will differ slightly. Variable-bitrate video may average below its configured peak, but the steady-rate estimate is a useful conservative planning baseline.
What YouTube bitrate settings mean for 24/7 data
YouTube’s live encoder settings recommend H.264 video bitrates of 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Its advanced settings recommend 128 kbps stereo audio. Adding that audio rate gives the following approximate continuous-use totals:

These are arithmetic estimates based on YouTube’s recommended rates, not measured XSplit sessions or India-specific usage figures. Your actual output settings may differ. YouTube notes that the total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth; its live encoder settings and streaming tips are useful references when choosing a configuration.
Check your XSplit output and connection
- Open the YouTube output properties in XSplit Broadcaster. Note the video bitrate and audio bitrate separately. XSplit exposes bitrate controls and a bandwidth test in output settings; codec choices depend on hardware, drivers, and platform support. See XSplit’s output settings guidance.
- Add the two rates. Use the combined value in the formula above, then multiply by your planned number of streaming hours.
- Run XSplit’s bandwidth test for the selected output/server. XSplit’s Bandwidth Tester Guide says the tester reads the streaming configuration, specifically video max bitrate (MBR) and audio bitrate (ABR).
- Test representative content and monitor stream health. Include typical motion and audio. If the connection cannot sustain the setting, reduce bitrate or resolution, then test again. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring stream health.
- Check the internet plan’s data policy and usage meter. XSplit’s current requirements list a 500 kbps minimum upload speed for its lowest live-streaming settings and recommend 5 Mbps upload for HD. These are upload-capacity recommendations, not monthly data allowances.
Data use is not the same as upload speed
Data use is accumulated volume: how many gigabytes leave the connection over time. Upload speed is the capacity available at a moment, measured in Mbps. A stream can fit under an ISP’s data cap but still fail if the connection cannot sustain its bitrate. Conversely, adequate upload capacity does not mean a plan includes enough monthly data for continuous streaming.

Allow for network overhead, reconnects, and other household traffic when choosing a plan. XSplit advises comparing its measured capacity with the configured bitrate and accounting for other devices using the connection. No single broadband or mobile data allowance applies across India: caps and fair-use terms depend on the specific plan and can change, so check your provider’s current terms and usage meter. Do not count viewers’ playback data as your broadcaster upload traffic.
