The Xiaomi Mi A1 (codename Tissot)’s July 2018 Android 8.1 Oreo release is build OPM1.171019.026.v9.6.4.0.ODHMIFE, with the July 2018 Android security patch. This is historical firmware, not a current security update: Xiaomi lists the Mi A1 among devices no longer receiving regular software or firmware updates. Use this guide to identify the right package and installation route; do not treat an old third-party download as a verified current Xiaomi download.
Identify the July 2018 firmware
The Mi A1 was Xiaomi’s first Android One phone and shipped with stock Android rather than MIUI (Xiaomi Mi A1 Android One). The release discussed here is Android 8.1 Oreo, distinct from the earlier Android 8.0 build and subsequent Android Pie releases. Contemporaneous coverage identifies it as the July 2018 stable release; an earlier Android 8.1 rollout had reportedly been pulled before this release resumed (The Custom Droid; Android Sage).
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Device | Xiaomi Mi A1 |
| Codename | Tissot |
| Android version | 8.1 Oreo |
| Xiaomi release version | v9.6.4.0.ODHMIFE |
| Full build identifier | OPM1.171019.026.v9.6.4.0.ODHMIFE |
| Security patch | July 2018, as reported for this release |
| Reported OTA sizes | Approximately 467.3 MB when updating from build 9.6.3.0; approximately 1.15 GB when upgrading from Android 8.0. These are historical reported package sizes, not a guarantee of current download availability. |
| Package forms reported | OTA, recovery/TWRP ZIP, and Fastboot ROM |
The OPM1.171019.026 portion is the Android platform/build identifier; v9.6.4.0 is Xiaomi’s release version; and ODHMIFE is the Xiaomi build suffix. Do not assume the suffix establishes a universal carrier or region rule. Google documents Android build-number conventions, but that reference does not validate Xiaomi’s complete suffix (Android build numbers).
Choose the correct package
OTA, recovery ZIP, and Fastboot ROM are different package types; they are not substitutes for one another. Historical reports list these package names and types (The Custom Droid; Android Sage).

| Package | Reported identifier or filename | Intended use |
|---|---|---|
| OTA | Multiple variants; exact filename not stated in the cited coverage | Install through the phone’s built-in system updater. The reported size depends on the starting build. |
| Recovery/TWRP ZIP | tissot-T-OPM1.171019.026.V9.6.4.0.ODHMIFE.zip |
Flash through a compatible custom recovery. The historical uploader’s link was reported removed, so current availability and authenticity are not established. |
| Fastboot ROM | tissot_images_V9.6.4.0.ODHMIFE_20180712.0000.00_8.0_735823083f.tgz |
Restore or flash stock software using the Fastboot/Mi Flash route. The archive filename contains _8.0_ even though historical coverage describes the release as Android 8.1; do not silently change the filename or infer the reason for the label. Verify the extracted system properties. |
The historical articles do not establish that these files remain hosted by Xiaomi or that a present-day mirror is authentic. No verified checksum for the named packages is provided here. Do not label a random mirror official, and do not use a recovery or Fastboot package as if it were an OTA.
Which installation method fits your situation?
| Your situation | Route to consider | Main concern |
|---|---|---|
| Stock phone offers the update | Built-in OTA updater | The update may no longer be offered by Xiaomi. |
| Stock phone has no OTA | Only a verified, compatible full package | Package availability and device compatibility must be established. |
| Rooted phone or custom ROM | Fastboot stock restore, if the matching package and procedure are verified | Data loss and bootloader complications. |
| TWRP is already installed and the ZIP is verified | TWRP ZIP route | Recovery compatibility, encryption, and boot failure. |
| Android will not boot but Fastboot works | Fastboot ROM | Drivers, bootloader state, and correct package selection. |
| You need a secure daily-use phone | Do not install this build as a security solution | Its patch level is from July 2018. |
Before you flash: stop-and-check list
- Confirm the model: use a package explicitly intended for Xiaomi Mi A1/Tissot. Do not choose another device’s package based only on apparent hardware similarity.
- Back up first: a Mi Flash “Clean all” operation erases user data. Bootloader unlocking normally triggers a factory reset, so confirm the phone’s bootloader state before taking a route that requires unlocking.
- Check package provenance and integrity: obtain the archive from a source whose origin you can assess, and compare its checksum with a trustworthy published checksum if one is available. The cited coverage does not provide a verified checksum for these files.
- Prepare the connection: for PC flashing, use a reliable data-capable USB cable, appropriate drivers, and a charged phone. Do not start with a critically low battery.
- Do not relock casually: using “Clean all and lock” with an unverified or mismatched ROM can create serious problems. The cited material does not establish anti-rollback safety for every transition, so do not assume every older-to-newer or newer-to-older flash is safe.
- Stop if key facts are unknown: do not flash if the model, package, bootloader state, or USB connection is uncertain, or if you have no backup or recovery plan.
Method 1: Install through the OTA updater
This is the least invasive route for a stock, unmodified Mi A1 when Xiaomi’s updater still offers the package. Historical Xiaomi instructions recommend the built-in update interface where possible (Xiaomi ROM support).
- Back up important files, messages, and authenticator recovery information. Connect to reliable Wi-Fi and charge the phone.
- Open Settings → System → System update. Labels can vary slightly by Android release or language.
- Tap Check for update. If the matching update is offered, download and install it through the updater.
- Let the phone restart and finish the update without interrupting it.
- After it starts, open Settings → System → About phone and verify the Android version, full build number, and security patch level.
Do not expect the OTA to remain available from Xiaomi’s servers in 2026. If the updater does not offer it, do not force a different package through the OTA route.

- Full edge protection, easy to clean,Anti finger print.
- Heavy-duty protective, shockproof TPU protects your phone from drops, vibrations, shocks and collisions
- Good workmanship, no buckle, easy to install. Raise to the edge
- Accurate circuit breaker. All the speaker openings and cuts, the headphone jack, are correct
Method 2: Restore or flash with Mi Flash
Fastboot/Mi Flash is the route to consider for restoring stock software or repairing a modified installation, but only when the package, device, and procedure are verified. Xiaomi’s Mi A1 FAQ confirms Fastboot support and identifies Volume Down + Power as the Fastboot entry combination; Xiaomi’s ROM support page describes the general Mi Flash route (Xiaomi Mi A1 FAQ; Xiaomi ROM support).

Prepare the PC and phone
- Have the correct Mi A1/Tissot Fastboot archive, a compatible Windows PC and Mi Flash release, USB drivers, ADB/Fastboot tools, a data-capable cable, and a complete backup.
- Check the phone’s bootloader status and understand the consequences of unlocking before proceeding. Requirements depend on the device state and flashing procedure.
- Extract the
.tgzarchive. If extraction produces a.tararchive, extract that as well. Confirm the resulting folder and scripts belong to the intended package; do not run an uninspected one-click script.
Flash the ROM
- Power off the phone. Hold Volume Down + Power until Fastboot mode appears, then connect it to the PC.
- Open Mi Flash and select the extracted ROM directory. Click Refresh and confirm that Mi Flash detects the device before continuing.
- Select the flash option deliberately: Clean all erases user data and does not relock the bootloader; Save user data attempts to retain data but is less suitable for repairing a corrupted or heavily modified system; Clean all and lock also relocks the bootloader and should not be used unless exact device/package compatibility is proven.
- Start the flash and do not disconnect the phone while it is running. Wait for completion and reboot.
- Allow extra time for the first startup. Verify the resulting build and test core phone functions once Android loads.
Method 3: Flash the recovery ZIP in TWRP
Use this route only if you already understand unlocked bootloaders, custom recovery, backups, and the encryption state of this phone. The historical guide’s wipe advice is not universally safe; the required procedure depends on the installed recovery, source ROM, and package maintainer’s instructions (Android Sage; The Custom Droid).
- Confirm the device is Mi A1/Tissot and that the ZIP is verified and intended for the current starting software.
- Back up the device, ideally with a TWRP backup, and confirm that TWRP can access or decrypt storage. If internal storage is inaccessible, an OTG device may help, but it does not resolve recovery incompatibility.
- Copy the ZIP to accessible storage. Boot to TWRP with Volume Up + Power.
- Follow the package maintainer’s instructions for the exact starting ROM. Do not assume a dirty flash is supported, and do not perform a generic “wipe everything” operation.
- In TWRP, choose Install, select the ZIP, and flash it. Reboot to system and allow time for first startup.
- If the phone does not boot, return to TWRP and restore the backup. If there is no usable backup, consider the matching Fastboot restore route rather than repeatedly flashing unverified files.
Troubleshoot installation problems
OTA or recovery reports a verification failure
Possible causes include a wrong model or package, a corrupt download, a package intended for another starting build, modified system partitions, or a ZIP that is not an authentic recovery package. Xiaomi describes OTA checks for device suitability and package authenticity (Xiaomi ROM update failure support). Do not bypass a failed verification casually; recheck the package and device before attempting anything else.

- Made from high quality soft silicone rubber gel material.
- Shock absorption TPU bumper cushion, can effectively withstand impact, wear tear ,avoid drop.
- Precisely cut openings to allow full access to all the functions of your phone.
- Clear, slim, lightweight case design that adds minimal bulk to your phone.
- Premium anti-UV TPU material effectively delays the case from yellowing to a 6-month use, longer than normal 3 months’ period.
Mi Flash does not detect the phone
- Confirm that the phone is in Fastboot mode, not recovery mode.
- Check the USB driver, cable, and PC port; inspect Windows Device Manager for detection problems.
- Check bootloader state and whether Mi Flash has appropriate permissions.
- Do not keep trying random ROMs while the phone is not detected.
TWRP flash leads to a boot loop or decryption problem
An incompatible wipe, wrong ZIP, encryption/decryption failure, mismatched system components, or leftover custom-ROM changes may be responsible. Return to TWRP and restore the backup if available. Without one, use only a matching Fastboot package and a non-relocking flash choice unless relock compatibility is proven.
The phone starts, but the build is unexpected
Check the complete build string in Settings → System → About phone, not just the Android version. Record the displayed security patch level as well.

Verify the phone after installation
In Settings → System → About phone, check for Android version 8.1.0, the full build identifier OPM1.171019.026.v9.6.4.0.ODHMIFE, and a July 2018 security patch level if the installed package reports that metadata. Also confirm the IMEI and baseband are present and test Wi-Fi, cellular service, camera, fingerprint reader, and charging. The Android 8.1 compatibility definition describes platform compatibility and security-patch metadata conventions; it does not make this 2018 build current or secure (Android 8.1 Compatibility Definition).
Security status and continued use
Xiaomi’s security-status page lists the Mi A1 as no longer receiving regular software or firmware updates (Xiaomi Product Security Updates). Android 8.1 with a July 2018 patch is therefore archival firmware. It may be useful for restoration or historical testing, but it should not be presented as a security upgrade or recommended for security-sensitive daily use.
