The Xiaomi Mi 10S is a China-market phone launched in 2021, built around a Snapdragon 870, a curved 90Hz AMOLED display, strong stereo speakers, and wireless charging. Those features can still suit media use or a low-cost secondary phone, but Xiaomi lists the model in its end-of-life information, and the last recorded China firmware is HyperOS 1 on Android 13 with a March 2024 security patch. Consider one only if it is inexpensive, its software and network compatibility check out, and you accept the risks of an aging imported phone.
What is the Xiaomi Mi 10S?
The Mi 10S is a refresh of the Xiaomi Mi 10 family, not a successor to the Mi 11. Announced in mainland China on March 10, 2021, and on sale there from March 12, it replaced the Mi 10’s Snapdragon 865 with a Snapdragon 870 and added revised styling and upgraded speaker hardware. It also retained premium-feeling features such as a curved AMOLED screen and wireless charging. Xiaomi did not confirm an official international launch at the time; overseas listings generally represent imported China-market units, not proof of a global Mi 10S variant. Display and design
The 6.67-inch curved AMOLED has a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes scrolling smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen. Its 2,340 × 1,080 resolution is Full HD+, and launch coverage identifies Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Xiaomi’s product materials and launch reports describe a claimed peak brightness of about 1,120 nits, alongside DCI-P3 and sRGB coverage claims; these are specification claims, not a guarantee of how a five-year-old individual panel performs today. The display also has an in-screen fingerprint reader.
The curved edges give the phone a more premium appearance but can make accidental edge contact and screen repairs more of a concern than with a flat display. At about 208g, it is not a light handset. Check the screen carefully for cracks, discoloration, touch problems, and uneven edges before buying.
Performance: what the Snapdragon 870 means today
The Snapdragon 870 was a refined, higher-clocked successor to the Snapdragon 865, rather than a wholly new flagship generation. The Mi 10S pairs it with LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.0 storage, and vapor-chamber liquid cooling. That hardware remains suitable for everyday apps, video streaming, navigation, and many games when the phone is in good condition. It is not a current flagship platform, and actual gaming performance, heat, and battery endurance depend on the individual phone; launch specifications alone do not establish how a used unit will behave.

The combination of a capable processor and a 90Hz screen still feels responsive, but it should not outweigh the software-support and battery-age concerns when choosing a primary phone.
Cameras: a 108MP main sensor, without a telephoto lens
The rear array consists of a 108MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro sensor. Launch reports put the ultra-wide field of view at about 123 degrees. A 20MP punch-hole camera handles selfies. Some secondary reports attribute optical image stabilization to the main camera, but the claim is not necessary to judge the phone and should be verified against the specific unit’s documentation.
The 108MP figure describes sensor resolution, not a guarantee of better photos than a newer 50MP phone. Image quality also depends on sensor size, processing, stabilization, autofocus, HDR, and low-light performance. The Mi 10S has no dedicated telephoto camera; its depth and macro sensors are modest supporting cameras rather than substitutes for optical zoom. For a used unit, test focus, exposure, flash, and every camera mode instead of relying on the megapixel count.
Speakers, charging, and battery condition
Stereo audio
The Mi 10S’s symmetrical stereo speakers, with Harman Kardon audio branding and tuning, are among its most distinctive features. Launch coverage also reports high-resolution audio support and aptX, LDAC, and LHDC Bluetooth codecs. It has no 3.5mm headphone jack, so wired headphones require a USB-C audio adapter. Wired and wireless charging
The stated charging combination is 33W wired, 30W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless. Some launch reporting lists 30W wired charging instead; Xiaomi’s product materials and the broader body of launch coverage support 33W wired. The practical speed depends on compatible charging equipment, and an imported unit may arrive with a China-market charger or a different accessory set. Confirm what is included and whether a plug adapter is needed.
Battery aging
The 4,780mAh figure is the original design capacity, not a measurement of a used phone’s remaining capacity. A handset sold in 2021 may have several years of battery wear by 2026. Ask whether the battery is original or replaced, then check standby drain, sudden percentage drops, charging behavior, and unusual heat. A replacement battery or repair can change the total cost enough to make a newer phone the better buy.
Software history and current update status
The phone launched with MIUI 12 on Android 11. Available firmware records show upgrades through MIUI 13 on Android 12, MIUI 14 on Android 13, and HyperOS 1 on Android 13. The latest China stable build recorded by the firmware history is OS1.0.4.0.TGACNXM, released in June 2024, with a March 2024 Android security patch. Xiaomi’s security-center material lists Mi 10S (CN) in its end-of-life information. Xiaomi says devices on its EOL list no longer receive normal firmware or security updates, although it notes that exceptionally serious vulnerabilities may sometimes receive special treatment. Treat the Mi 10S as having reached the end of regular official support; do not buy it expecting Android 14, HyperOS 2, or routine future security patches. This makes the phone a poor fit for banking, business-critical authentication, privacy-sensitive use, or long-term ownership if current security updates matter. Custom ROMs, where available, are unofficial and can bring bootloader, data-loss, camera, DRM, banking-app, and update risks; they are not a replacement for manufacturer support.

Confirm the model and software
Ask for the exact model number, M2102J2SC, and a current screenshot of Settings → About phone showing the full build number. Ask whether the phone runs official China firmware or a seller-installed ROM, whether its bootloader is locked, and whether Google Play is certified. “Global ROM” is a seller description, not proof that Xiaomi sold an official global Mi 10S. It may mean official firmware from another region, a community ROM, modified China firmware, or a device with an unlocked bootloader. These differences can affect updates, Google services, banking apps, DRM certification, and warranty coverage.
Check your carrier and features
Do not assume that an unlocked China-market phone will work fully on your carrier. Compare the device’s supported LTE and 5G bands with the carrier’s bands, and confirm VoLTE provisioning and network policy. Compatibility is carrier- and country-specific; no blanket U.S. compatibility claim is safe without checking the exact combination. Also ask the seller to demonstrate NFC and the infrared blaster if you need them.
Inspect condition, repairs, and return terms
- Test the display, touch response, fingerprint reader, cameras, speakers, microphones, proximity sensor, and charging port.
- Ask about battery replacement, display or back-glass repairs, water exposure, and impact damage. Refurbished phones may contain third-party parts, and replacement-screen quality can vary.
- Verify whether the phone is carrier-unlocked and whether the seller offers a practical return window and warranty.
- Confirm the included charger, cable, and plug. Do not assume a particular accessory delivers the full rated charging speed.
- Check the exact RAM and storage in the phone’s settings; imported listings can use inconsistent or incorrect titles.
For service or support information, Xiaomi provides a U.S. support portal; its existence does not mean that a China-market Mi 10S has a local warranty or is currently sold there.

Is the Xiaomi Mi 10S worth buying in 2026?
It can make sense as a low-cost media or secondary phone for someone who values its speakers, AMOLED display, and wireless charging and is comfortable checking import details. It is a much harder recommendation as a main phone: support has ended, battery condition is unknown until inspected, and network, firmware, warranty, or repair problems can erase the apparent savings.
- Consider it if the price is substantially below a newer supported phone, the battery is healthy or recently replaced, the ROM and carrier compatibility are verified, and you accept that regular security updates have ended.
- Skip it if you need current security support, reliable carrier compatibility without extra checking, a global warranty, a telephoto camera, a 120Hz screen, eSIM, or a headphone jack.
- Be especially cautious if the seller cannot identify the firmware, model number, battery history, or return terms, or if the total price approaches that of a newer supported device.
Compare total ownership cost rather than the original CNY 3,299 starting price: include shipping, import taxes, a charger or adapter, potential battery replacement, repair risk, and the cost of replacing the phone sooner. A used listing is only one seller’s offer, not a dependable market benchmark.
Alternatives to consider
Exact 2026 prices and availability vary by country, so compare local models and warranty terms rather than relying on a fixed price ranking.
