The “Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s internal design revealed in latest leak” story is actually a post-launch teardown from February–March 2025, not a new 2026 leak. WekiHome’s video showed that the phone’s unusually large 200MP periscope camera reshaped the motherboard layout, while Xiaomi removed the 14 Ultra’s variable aperture and made repairs difficult.
The teardown is valuable because it explains the physical compromises behind the Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s camera system. It shows where the phone spends its internal space, but it does not independently prove every claim about camera quality, cooling, battery life, or performance.
Key takeaways
- The Xiaomi 15 Ultra teardown was published around February 28–March 3, 2025, shortly after the phone launched, so it should not be presented as a current 2026 leak.
- The 200MP, 100mm-equivalent periscope telephoto camera is large enough to dominate the phone’s internal layout and appears to have influenced the mainboard’s unusually broad footprint.
- Teardown reports say Xiaomi removed the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s mechanically adjustable f/1.63–f/4.0 aperture and replaced it with a glass filter intended to diffuse reflections, supported by computational processing.
- Xiaomi’s global specification lists a 5410mAh typical battery, 90W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, and a 50MP Sony LYT-900 main camera.
- The phone is IP68-rated, but adhesive, screws, delicate connectors, and internal sealing make repair complex and can make the original water resistance difficult to preserve after opening.
Is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra internal design story really a latest leak?
No. The evidence is an independent, post-launch teardown performed by WekiHome and reported shortly after the Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s official unveiling. Reports appeared between February 28 and March 3, 2025, including Gizmochina’s teardown report, Android Headlines’ coverage, and Notebookcheck’s analysis.
That distinction matters. A leak normally refers to information disclosed before a product is officially available, often from an anonymous source or unreleased hardware. A teardown examines a retail or production phone after launch. A teardown can reveal the physical arrangement, approximate component size, connectors, fasteners, and sealing methods, but a teardown alone cannot establish that a component improves image quality or produces a specific performance gain.

What did the Xiaomi 15 Ultra teardown show inside?
The central finding is that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is organized around a very large camera system rather than around a conventional phone layout with cameras added afterward. Teardown views show a dense interior containing the camera assemblies, a broad mainboard, a battery sealed with adhesive, shielding and retaining parts, multiple screws, and several delicate camera and board connectors.
Reports describe the mainboard as extending across almost half of the handset. “Almost half” is teardown reporting, not an official Xiaomi dimension, so it should not be converted into an exact percentage or board measurement. The apparent reason is the amount of space required to route and accommodate the phone’s large periscope camera system, although that explanation is an engineering inference rather than a published Xiaomi statement.
The teardown also showed that opening the phone involves more than removing a few visible screws. The rear cover is adhesive-sealed, the mainboard cover is screwed down, camera modules disconnect from the mainboard, and the battery uses easy-release adhesive according to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra repair-manual documentation. Internal sealing is also reported around areas such as the charging port, speaker grille, and SIM tray.
Why does the 200MP periscope camera take so much space?
The 200MP periscope camera takes substantial internal space because a periscope camera folds the optical path through the phone instead of stacking the lens and sensor directly behind the rear glass. The folded arrangement allows a longer effective focal length in a relatively thin handset, but it requires a sideways optical module with room for lenses, a prism or mirror system, stabilization hardware, and the sensor.
Xiaomi’s official global specifications identify the camera as a 200MP ultra-telephoto with a 100mm-equivalent focal length, an f/2.6 aperture, optical image stabilization, and 2.24μm four-in-one super-pixel characteristics. The official Xiaomi specification page describes the camera’s capabilities; the teardown shows the physical cost of fitting that system inside the phone.
Reports also identify the sensor as Samsung’s ISOCELL HP9. The size of the assembly cannot be explained by the megapixel count alone. Sensor format, the lens stack, the folded optical path, autofocus and stabilization mechanisms, structural supports, and the surrounding camera housing all contribute to the module’s volume.

That volume competes with several other components. The camera module needs space near the rear camera housing, the mainboard needs room for processing and connection points, and the battery needs to occupy the remaining uninterrupted area. The result is a tightly packed layout in which the camera system affects the board footprint, battery arrangement, camera-bump size, and chassis design.
How does the Xiaomi 15 Ultra compare with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra internally?
The biggest camera-design difference is that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra removes the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s variable main-camera aperture while adding a more prominent 200MP ultra-telephoto system. Teardown coverage also describes changes to the main-camera assembly even though the sensor family remains familiar.
| Feature | Xiaomi 14 Ultra | Xiaomi 15 Ultra | What the change means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main-camera aperture | Variable aperture switching between f/1.63 and f/4.0 | Variable-aperture mechanism removed | The 15 Ultra gives up direct mechanical aperture adjustment. |
| Replacement optical approach | Mechanical aperture adjustment | Glass filter reported to diffuse reflections, with computational processing | The new design may simplify moving hardware, but software processing is not automatically equivalent to a variable aperture. |
| Ultra-telephoto camera | Previous-generation telephoto arrangement | 200MP, 100mm-equivalent ultra-telephoto | The larger periscope assembly consumes more internal volume. |
| Main-camera sensor family | 50MP Sony LYT-900 family | 50MP Sony LYT-900, with reported internal assembly changes | The teardown does not establish that Xiaomi used a completely new main sensor. |
| Internal layout | Earlier board and camera arrangement | Teardown reports describe a board extending across almost half the handset | The 15 Ultra has a denser layout apparently influenced by the larger telephoto system. |
| Chassis thickness | Predecessor reference point | Approximately 9.4mm according to teardown reporting | Chassis thickness should not be confused with the additional visual bulk of the camera housing. |
The comparison should be read carefully. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra retains a 50MP Sony LYT-900 main camera with a 1-inch sensor size, f/1.63 aperture, optical stabilization, and a 23mm-equivalent focal length according to Xiaomi’s global specifications. Teardown reports say the LYT-900 assembly received internal adjustments, but the available coverage is not a complete component-by-component engineering comparison.
What happened to the variable aperture?
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra replaces the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s physical variable-aperture mechanism with a fixed-aperture arrangement and a reported glass filter intended to diffuse reflections. Teardown coverage also refers to software or algorithmic changes that help manage the resulting imaging behavior.
The hardware change has potential advantages. Removing a moving aperture mechanism may reduce the number of mechanical parts inside the camera assembly, and a filter designed to diffuse reflections may help manage certain flare or reflection effects. Computational photography can also compensate for some exposure and image-rendering situations.
The change has real trade-offs as well. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra no longer gives photographers the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s direct mechanical switch between f/1.63 and f/4.0. A fixed aperture offers less physical control over depth of field and exposure. The teardown establishes that the mechanism was removed and that a filter was used; it does not prove that the filter and algorithms deliver better photographs than the 14 Ultra’s variable aperture.
Independent, controlled camera testing would be needed to judge low-light performance, flare behavior, depth-of-field control, and exposure handling. The teardown should not be used as a substitute for that testing.

| Cooling | Xiaomi advertises a 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop system, a 5100mm2 thermal area, and 13% more cooling | These are Xiaomi internal-lab or marketing claims, not independent teardown measurements. |
Xiaomi’s global specification page lists the 5410mAh typical battery, 90W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, and Surge power-management chips. Xiaomi’s India product page separately advertises the 5100mm2 IceLoop thermal area and 13% cooling claim. The 13% figure should be attributed to Xiaomi and should not be presented as an independently verified sustained-performance result.
The internal layout may help explain why thermal design is important. A flagship processor, charging circuitry, battery, and several camera modules must share a compact enclosure. However, the teardown does not independently prove the exact thermal-area measurement, a particular sustained frame-rate improvement, or a specific battery chemistry.
Is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra difficult to repair?
Yes. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra appears repairable by a trained technician, but the teardown evidence supports describing the phone as complex and difficult to repair rather than impossible to repair.
Repair involves removing an adhesive-sealed rear cover, managing multiple screws and plastic retaining pieces, disconnecting delicate flex cables and camera connectors, and dealing with sealing materials. The battery’s easy-release adhesive is helpful compared with a battery permanently bonded without pull tabs, but reaching the battery still requires opening the phone and navigating the surrounding hardware.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe large stabilized periscope camera may also make camera replacement more demanding and potentially more expensive than replacing a simple fixed-focus module. A damaged camera connector or flex cable can create additional risk because the camera system is integrated into a dense area around the mainboard.
DIY repair is therefore a poor fit for most owners. The repair documentation calls for controlled heating, pry tools, connector handling, screw management, and replacement adhesive. Battery, display, camera, and rear-cover work is better handled by an authorized or experienced repair provider.

Does IP68 water resistance make the phone easy to repair?
No. IP68 protection and repairability measure different things. Xiaomi lists the Xiaomi 15 Ultra as IP68-rated in its product material, but opening the phone breaks the original factory seal. Correct replacement adhesive and careful reassembly are needed to give the device the best chance of retaining its intended dust and water resistance.
A repaired phone should not automatically be treated as having the same water-resistance protection as a new phone. The quality of the replacement seal, damage to the rear cover, technician procedure, and later wear can all affect the result. Xiaomi’s IP68 product information confirms the rating for the device as sold; the rating is not a guarantee after third-party disassembly.
Are all Xiaomi 15 Ultra internal layouts and batteries identical?
No. The teardown should be treated as evidence for the specific regional model that WekiHome inspected, not proof that every Xiaomi 15 Ultra worldwide has identical internal hardware.
Xiaomi’s global specification page lists a 5410mAh typical battery. Other reports and listings have circulated different capacities for China and other markets, and regional versions can differ in battery rating, charging behavior, network compatibility, included accessories, and availability. A claimed regional capacity should therefore be tied to a clearly identified model rather than generalized to the entire product family.
Buyers should confirm the exact model number and market before comparing battery capacity or purchasing accessories. Regional product pages also warn that features and accessories can vary by country. A global model, Chinese model, and India-market model should not be assumed to have identical internals merely because they share the Xiaomi 15 Ultra name.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does the teardown mean for buyers?
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s internal design is a camera-first engineering compromise. The large 200MP periscope provides the physical basis for the phone’s long-range imaging ambitions, but the optical module consumes space that could otherwise simplify the motherboard, expand battery flexibility, or reduce the camera housing.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Buyer priority | What the teardown suggests | Practical decision |
|---|---|---|
| Long-range photography | The 200MP periscope is the defining internal component. | The phone is a strong fit if telephoto reach is more important than a compact camera bump. |
| Manual camera control | The Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s variable aperture is gone. | Photographers who valued mechanical aperture adjustment should compare real camera tests before upgrading. |
| Simple repairs | Adhesive, screws, seals, connectors, and dense packaging increase difficulty. | Plan on professional or authorized repair rather than routine DIY work. |
| Maximum battery capacity | The official global rating is 5410mAh typical, but regional figures can differ. | Check the exact regional model instead of relying on a generic Xiaomi 15 Ultra listing. |
| Thin ergonomics | Teardown reporting puts the chassis at approximately 9.4mm, while the camera housing remains prominent. | Distinguish phone-body thickness from the overall bulk created by the camera bump. |
| Reliable local support | Availability, warranty, accessories, and repair networks vary by market. | A competing flagship may be a better fit where Xiaomi support is limited. |
The phone is best understood as a specialist camera flagship rather than as a simple year-over-year component refresh. Buyers who prioritize telephoto imaging may accept the density and repair complexity. Buyers who prioritize inexpensive repairs, uniform regional specifications, a small camera bump, or a mechanical variable aperture may prefer a different model or the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Frequently Asked Questions
When was the Xiaomi 15 Ultra teardown published?
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra teardown was reported around February 28–March 3, 2025, shortly after the phone’s launch. The teardown is historical post-launch evidence, not a new 2026 leak.
Does the Xiaomi 15 Ultra have a variable aperture?
No. Teardown reports say the Xiaomi 15 Ultra removed the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s f/1.63–f/4.0 variable-aperture mechanism and substituted a glass filter intended to diffuse reflections, along with computational image processing.
What is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra global battery capacity?
Xiaomi’s global specification lists a 5410mAh typical battery for the global Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Regional versions may carry different published capacities, so buyers should verify the exact market and model.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Can the Xiaomi 15 Ultra be repaired?
Yes, but the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is complex and difficult to repair rather than unrepairable. Adhesive, screws, delicate connectors, camera modules, and sealing materials make professional repair preferable for battery, display, camera, and rear-cover work.
Does repairing the Xiaomi 15 Ultra preserve IP68 protection?
Repair does not automatically preserve the phone’s original IP68 protection. Opening the adhesive-sealed phone and replacing the rear-cover seal can affect dust and water resistance unless the work is performed correctly, and post-repair protection should not be assumed to equal factory sealing.
The Bottom Line
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s internal design revealed in latest leak coverage is not a new leak at all: it is a 2025 WekiHome teardown showing how the phone’s large 200MP periscope camera reshaped the interior. The result is an impressively ambitious but densely packed camera phone, with a broad mainboard, a revised fixed-aperture main-camera design, and difficult repairs. Treat official specifications, teardown observations, and Xiaomi’s cooling claims as three different kinds of evidence—and check the regional model before generalizing battery or internal-layout details.
