Yes—Argos has been reported selling the Xbox Series S 512GB for £299.99 in the UK, subject to postcode and remaining local stock. That is £130 below the reported £429.99 price set after Microsoft’s August 2026 UK increase, and it returns the console to its pre-increase price level. The 1TB Series S is reportedly £349.99, making the storage upgrade £50 during the same promotion. There is no confirmed end date, so buyers must check an Argos postcode listing before relying on collection or delivery.
Is the Xbox Series S really discounted to £299?
Windows Central reported on 26 October 2026 that Argos cut the digital-only Xbox Series S 512GB to £299.99 from a reported £429.99. Games of Food independently reported the same price and noted that availability varies by branch. The offer is therefore a stock-limited retail promotion, not a guaranteed nationwide price.
PC Gamer reported that Microsoft’s August 2026 UK price changes lifted the 512GB model to £429.99 and the 1TB version to £519.99. At £299.99, the 512GB console is £130 below that reported post-increase price. It is still £50 above the reported November 2020 launch price of £249.99, but it is unusually close to the Series S’s earlier price position.

Where can I buy an Xbox Series S for £299 in the UK?
Use Argos’s product listing and enter your delivery or collection postcode before treating the deal as available. The reports say that both delivery and collection depend on stock held by nearby branches.
- Open the Argos listing for the Xbox Series S 512GB.
- Enter your UK postcode in the stock checker.
- Review the available collection branches and delivery date, if offered.
- Confirm that the listing shows £299.99 at checkout; do not assume a branch has stock because another postcode does.
- Check the final delivered total, return terms and warranty information before paying.
A postcode showing no stock does not establish that the promotion has ended; it may only mean nearby inventory is exhausted. Conversely, a displayed price does not guarantee that stock will remain until you complete payment.
Is £299.99 a good price for an Xbox Series S?
For a buyer who wants the lowest-cost route into current-generation Xbox games and is comfortable with downloads, £299.99 is a strong price relative to the reported £429.99 UK level. The value is less compelling if you need discs, already own a large physical library or want the highest-performance Xbox hardware.

- Digital-only library: The Series S has no disc drive. Games must be downloaded, and physical Xbox discs cannot be installed and played through the console.
- Current-generation access: Microsoft lists an 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU, AMD RDNA 2 graphics rated at 4 TFLOPS and support for up to 120 frames per second in supported content.
- Storage management: The 512GB SSD is the smaller option. Actual free space is lower after system software, and large modern games can consume a substantial share of it.
- Performance ceiling: The Series S is designed as the more affordable Xbox model, so buyers seeking the highest available Xbox performance should consider whether its hardware target meets their display and graphics expectations.
Should I buy the 512GB or 1TB Xbox Series S?
The reported Argos promotion puts the 1TB model at £349.99—£50 more than the 512GB console. Choose based on how often you expect to keep large games installed, not only on the headline purchase price.
| Feature | Xbox Series S 512GB | Xbox Series S 1TB |
|---|---|---|
| Reported Argos price | £299.99 | £349.99 |
| Reported price before the promotion | £429.99 | £519.99 |
| Internal SSD capacity | 512GB | 1TB |
| Disc drive | None; digital-only | None; digital-only |
| Processor and graphics | 8-core AMD Zen 2; AMD RDNA 2, 4 TFLOPS | 8-core AMD Zen 2; AMD RDNA 2, 4 TFLOPS |
| Maximum supported frame rate | Up to 120 FPS in supported content | Up to 120 FPS in supported content |
| Best fit | Players willing to uninstall and redownload games as needed | Players wanting more installed games and fewer storage decisions |
The 1TB model does not add a disc drive or a different processor and graphics class according to Microsoft’s listed specifications; its principal distinction here is storage. At £50 extra, it can be worthwhile if deleting and redownloading games would be a recurring nuisance. If you mainly play a small rotation or use external storage later, the 512GB deal preserves the lowest upfront cost.
What should I check before ordering?
- Stock by postcode: Confirm the exact branch or delivery slot serving your address.
- Model and capacity: Make sure the basket says 512GB or 1TB; the prices differ by £50.
- Included equipment: Verify the controller, power cable and any other in-box accessories in the retailer listing.
- Total cost: Include delivery charges, if any, rather than comparing only the product price.
- Returns and warranty: Read the current Argos terms and retain the order confirmation.
- Digital ownership: Confirm that you are happy buying or subscribing to games digitally, since neither model accepts game discs.
What are the main drawbacks of this deal?
The discount does not change the Series S’s storage size, digital-only design or performance tier. A 512GB buyer may need to uninstall games more often, while a disc collector cannot use existing physical software. Availability is also uneven: a low price shown in a report is not the same as guaranteed stock in every UK postcode.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the £299.99 Xbox Series S offer last?
No firm expiry date has been reported. The promotion appears tied to remaining Argos inventory, so availability can disappear by postcode before the advertised price is formally withdrawn.
Can the Xbox Series S play Xbox One discs?
No. Both capacities are digital-only and have no optical disc drive. Physical Xbox One or Xbox Series game discs cannot be used on either console.

Does the 1TB Series S run games faster than the 512GB version?

Is £299.99 the original Xbox Series S launch price?
No. Games of Food reported a November 2020 launch price of £249.99. The current promotion is £50 higher, although it is far below the £429.99 price reported after the August 2026 UK increase.
