You can stream Xbox games on selected Amazon Fire TV devices without owning an Xbox console—but not every Fire TV Stick works. Xbox’s current supported list names four specific models and generations. You’ll also need the Xbox app, a compatible controller, a reliable internet connection, and a subscription or other access that covers the game you want to play.
Which Fire TV devices support Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Xbox’s current Xbox on TVs compatibility list names these Fire TV devices:
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen)
- Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen)
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen)
- Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen)
Check the generation as well as the product name before buying or setting up a device. A Fire TV label alone does not establish compatibility, and older or differently named models are not confirmed by this list.
Amazon’s 2024 launch guide named a different set of models, including the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max. For current compatibility, use Xbox’s live list rather than carrying the launch-era list forward. The Xbox app must also be available in your market.

How to set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on Fire TV
- On a supported Fire TV device, open the Amazon Appstore and install the Xbox app.
- Open the app and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Pair a compatible controller with Fire TV using its Bluetooth settings. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Xbox app to choose and launch a cloud-playable game.
These steps follow Amazon’s setup guide. Signing in does not itself grant access to every game: the title must be available for cloud play under the access terms that apply to your account.
Do you need an Xbox console or Game Pass?
You do not need an Xbox console for this setup: the game runs through cloud gaming in the Xbox app. Xbox says most games available through cloud gaming require an active Game Pass subscription and a game that supports cloud play, though exceptions apply. Check the current Xbox TV and cloud-gaming information for the access terms that apply to the game and your region; plan features and cloud-play limits can change.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The available games and features vary by time, region, plan, and platform. A title appearing in a subscription catalog does not, by itself, establish that it can be streamed on Fire TV. Check that the specific game supports cloud play on your device.
Which controllers can you use?
A compatible controller is required. Amazon’s guide gives Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, and DualShock 4 as examples. Xbox points users to its verified controller information for current compatibility details. Bluetooth capability alone does not guarantee that a controller will work with the Xbox app, so confirm support for your controller and device before relying on it.

What internet connection do you need?
Xbox recommends high-speed internet. Its TV guidance lists 20 Mbps download speed for consoles, PCs, and tablets, and identifies wired internet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi as connection options. That figure is guidance, not a guaranteed minimum or promise of smooth play on Fire TV. Xbox cautions that streaming performance depends on the connection, location, device, and other factors. See its current TV guidance for the qualifications.
Cloud streaming can also have limitations compared with local play, including video resolution, audio outputs, cloud-only saves, companion apps, and peripherals. Whether those matter depends on the game and how you play.

What to check before choosing a Fire TV for Xbox games
- Exact model: Match the device and generation to Xbox’s current compatibility list.
- Local availability: Confirm that the Xbox app and cloud gaming are available in your market.
- Game access: Check the current plan terms and cloud-play eligibility for the titles you want.
- Controller: Confirm that your controller is supported, not merely Bluetooth-capable.
- Connection: Consider whether your home network can provide a stable connection to the device.
What Microsoft and Amazon announced in 2024
On June 27, 2024, Xbox announced the collaboration with Amazon and said Game Pass Ultimate members in over 25 countries could play through the Xbox app on selected Fire TV devices. That is a launch-era figure, not a current count of supported countries. The announcement establishes the original scope of the partnership, not adoption, latency, or gameplay-quality results.
