Xbox Cloud Gaming access depends on the game, your plan, region, and device. A Game Pass subscription is required for catalog games, but select free-to-play games are available with a free Microsoft account, and only select games you own can be streamed. Here’s how access, saves, queues, devices, and connection requirements work.
Do you need Game Pass to use Xbox Cloud Gaming?
It depends on the game. Xbox says subscription-catalog games require an active Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate subscription, a supported game, and a supported region. Select free-to-play games are an exception: they can be played with a free Microsoft account in a supported region. That exception does not apply to every free game. See Xbox’s Cloud Gaming page and FAQ for current access details.
Can you stream games you own?
Yes, but only select cloud-playable games that you own or purchase outside the Game Pass catalog. Owning a digital Xbox game does not automatically make it streamable. Check Xbox’s current cloud game catalog for a specific title; availability can change by region, plan, platform, and time.
Can Ubisoft+ Premium provide access?
A supported cloud-playable game in the Ubisoft+ Premium catalog can be streamed without purchasing it separately if you have that subscription. This does not mean every Ubisoft+ game is cloud-playable.

Do cloud-playtime hours from multiple Game Pass subscriptions combine?
No. Xbox says cloud-playtime allowances from multiple eligible Game Pass subscriptions do not stack; the plan with the higher included cloud-playtime amount applies. Because plan benefits can change, check Xbox’s current plan information for your region.
Do Xbox cloud saves sync between devices?
Xbox’s current FAQ lists “Limited game save storage (cloud saves only)” as a possible limitation of streamed games. This indicates that streamed play uses cloud saves, but the FAQ does not promise that every game syncs seamlessly across every device, state a storage quota, or explain how long saves remain available. For game-specific sync behavior or save recovery, consult that game’s support information and current Xbox support guidance.

Why are you in an Xbox Cloud Gaming queue?
Waits can vary with server availability. Xbox does not publish a guaranteed wait time on the FAQ page reviewed, nor does that page establish a queue duration or a plan-based priority rule. Do not rely on a particular subscription tier to bypass a queue. Xbox’s older cloud gaming information also notes that server availability and wait times may vary.

Check Xbox’s supported-device information for your exact model and region. Xbox cautions that games, features, and availability vary over time, by region, Game Pass plan, and platform.
Do you need a controller?
Xbox lists a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB as a setup requirement. Select games also support Xbox touch controls, so a controller is not necessary for every title. Compatibility can depend on the device and game.

What internet connection does Xbox Cloud Gaming need?
Xbox’s FAQ calls for a Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection with a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps; some devices may require 20 Mbps for best quality. Xbox describes 10 Mbps on mobile devices and 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs, and tablets as its best-performance guidance, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data. These are Xbox’s recommendations, not guaranteed performance thresholds: streaming quality also depends on the connection, location, device, and other factors.
