If you want a low-cost Ethereum transaction, compare World Chain with Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync and Starknet—but don’t assume any one network is always cheapest. Fees depend on the action and network conditions, and the cost of getting funds onto a network can change the overall calculation. Compare the same transaction and include any bridge or withdrawal costs before choosing.

What are the alternatives to World Chain?

Ethereum.org lists Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync and Starknet among popular Ethereum L2 networks. They are candidates to investigate, not a verified price ranking. The available information does not establish a stable, same-action fee comparison among them and World Chain.

Networks to compare What the available fee evidence establishes
World Chain, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync and Starknet No stable, directly comparable fee for the same transaction across these networks is stated. Ethereum.org’s live explorer shows dynamic average fees, not a quote for your specific transaction.

Use the table as a shortlist, not a recommendation. The right choice depends on the app and token you need, the transaction you plan to make, and the cost of moving funds to and from that network.

What makes World Chain different?

World describes World Chain as “permissionless, open source and designed for a community of real humans.” Its stated differentiator is Priority Blockspace for Humans (PBH), which gives transactions with a valid World ID proof priority inclusion. The PBH architecture also reserves some block capacity for non-PBH transactions and orders PBH transactions by priority fee. This is an inclusion and ordering policy for eligible users—not a promise that every transaction is free or always faster.

When World App sponsorship may matter

World says it funds gas for some World App activity, while non-World-App transactions may incur fees depending on the platform and chain. Its Help Center describes free transfers for verified World Money users and says transactions complete at twice the speed of those on Optimism in the World Money migration context. Treat that speed comparison as World’s claim, not an independently verified benchmark across apps or transaction types. World also says sponsorship can change, and users may need to self-sponsor in some situations. Check the World Chain migration guidance for the applicable terms.

Why can the cheapest network change?

Ethereum.org explains that gas measures the computational work a transaction uses; the fee depends on gas used and the cost per unit of gas. More complex actions can use more gas, and fees can still be charged if a transaction fails. Demand also affects the cost per gas. See Ethereum.org’s gas and fees guide.

Rollups also incur costs related to publishing data to Ethereum and operating the network. Those costs are reflected differently across systems; they should not be treated as identical mechanics for every L2. For example, ZKsync’s fee documentation says costs for publishing data and proof-related operations can fluctuate with L1 gas costs. A fee you saw yesterday—or a network’s average in an explorer—is not necessarily the fee for your next transfer, swap or contract interaction.

How should you compare networks for your transaction?

  1. Choose the exact action. Compare the same kind of transaction—such as transferring the same token or using the same app function—on each candidate network. A simple transfer estimate does not tell you what a swap or contract interaction will cost.
  2. Check a current estimate. Review the fee quote in the wallet or app you plan to use, at roughly the same time across networks. Ethereum.org’s L2 explorer reports live average fees; use those as context, not as a guaranteed quote for your transaction.
  3. Confirm app and token support. Make sure the intended app and the asset you need are available on that network. A lower transaction estimate is not useful if your required service or token route is unavailable.
  4. Include the cost of arriving and leaving. Add bridge or exchange-withdrawal fees to the destination transaction estimate, and consider whether you will need to move funds back afterward. Check the route’s supported networks and assets, amount received, and fees before confirming.
  5. Check whether a special benefit applies to you. World ID-based priority and World App fee sponsorship are relevant only in the circumstances World describes; do not assume they apply to every wallet, app or transaction on World Chain.
  6. Compare the total, then decide. Weigh the quoted transaction fee and funding route alongside app availability and any eligibility requirement. Recheck just before confirming, because estimates and network conditions can change.

What should you check before bridging funds?

A bridge is a way to move assets between networks, not proof that the destination will be cheapest overall. Ethereum.org’s bridge guide says you need a wallet and funds, gives Arbitrum and Optimism bridges as examples, and advises reviewing the amount received and fees before confirming.
