Wiz announced on December 9, 2020, that it was emerging from stealth with a $100 million Series A. The cloud-security company said it would use the funding to scale its product, customer base, and team in 2021. The round was led by Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, and Cyberstarts.
What is Wiz?
Wiz is an enterprise cloud-security company founded by Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, Yinon Costica, and Roy Reznik. The founders had previously created Adallom, acquired by Microsoft in 2015, and then led Microsoft’s Cloud Security Group. Wiz’s launch announcement described its product as a platform for visibility across cloud environments and for helping security teams concentrate on significant risks.
Who invested in Wiz’s Series A?
The $100 million Series A was led by Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, and Cyberstarts, according to Wiz’s announcement. The company said the financing would support growth in 2021, including scaling its product, customer base, and team.
How did Wiz say its platform differed from older cloud-security tools?
Wiz’s launch pitch focused on consolidating security context that could otherwise be spread across complex, fragmented products. The founders argued that existing approaches could overwhelm security teams with alerts, making it harder to identify meaningful risks. Their stated aim was to offer broad cloud visibility and prioritize risk context rather than requiring teams to manage multiple disconnected tools.

That distinction was the company’s positioning at launch, not a demonstrated comparative result: the launch announcements do not provide independently measured performance, deployment-time, alert-reduction, or adoption figures. Assaf Rappaport, CEO and co-founder, said the founding team had seen security teams struggle with the complexity of cloud-security approaches while leading Microsoft’s Cloud Security Group. Wiz’s announcement said the company set out to build a solution that delivered total visibility and let teams focus on real risks.

Wiz said the financing would help it scale in response to demand for a more streamlined cloud-security platform. Its stated plans were to expand the product, grow its customer base, and build the team during 2021; the announcement did not attach a specific allocation or schedule to those goals.
