That is Wix’s specific strip recommendation, not a universal banner size for every Wix element. Header images must fit the proportions of your actual header, and Wix may crop any image whose shape differs from the space it fills.
Which Wix banner are you sizing?
“Banner” can mean several different Wix elements. The correct image dimensions depend on where the image is used:
| Wix element | What Wix says | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| Strip background | Upload a resolution of no less than 1920 × 1080 px. | Start with 1920 × 1080 px or larger, then check the crop. |
| Site header image | Use an image compatible with the header and stretch it to cover the header; Wix does not specify one universal pixel size. | Match the image’s proportions to the header’s displayed shape and keep the focal subject near the center. |
| Page background | Make it at least as large as the target monitor. Wix gives 1920 × 1080 px as an example for a 1920 × 1080 monitor. | Use an image at least as large as the largest screen you support. |
| General background-media upload | Wix’s media guidance lists a minimum of 3000 × 3000 px for background images. | Treat this as separate media guidance, not as a required banner aspect ratio. |
The 1920 × 1080 strip recommendation and the 3000 × 3000 background-media guidance apply to different Wix instructions. Do not substitute one for the other.
Recommended Wix strip banner dimensions
Use 1920 × 1080 px as the baseline
Wix states: “We recommend uploading images with a resolution of no less than 1920px by 1080px.” A larger source can provide more room for responsive cropping, provided the file remains practical to load and edit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThat resolution is 16:9. It works well as a starting canvas for a full-width strip, but it does not guarantee identical framing on desktop, tablet, and mobile. A strip spans the site width, while its visible height is determined by your layout.
Do not confuse strip height with source-image size
A Wix strip can be up to 15,000 px high. This is the maximum height of the strip element, not a requirement that you upload a 15,000-pixel image. Set the strip height for your design, then choose a source image with enough resolution for the largest display area.

Why Wix crops banner images
Cropping occurs when the image’s aspect ratio does not match the strip, column, or header. To fill the available area, Wix may remove content from one or more edges. A wide image placed in a short, tall space loses more of its top and bottom; a tall image placed in a wide strip loses more of its sides.
Scale to Fill
Scale to Fill enlarges the image until the entire strip is covered. It prevents empty gaps but can cut off edges. This is usually the appropriate choice for a photographic banner, provided the important content is positioned safely.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Original Size
Original Size preserves the image’s displayed dimensions. Depending on the strip and viewport, it can leave uncovered space or show less of the intended composition.
Tile
Tile repeats the image. It is useful for patterns and textures, but rarely suitable for a photographic hero banner.
Position the focal area
Wix lets you set the image position. Move the focal point so a person, product, logo, or readable text remains visible after the editor crops the edges. Do not place essential text at the extreme top, bottom, or sides of the source image.
How to set and check a Wix strip background
- Open your site in the Wix Editor and select the strip.
- Open the strip’s background settings and upload an image at least 1920 × 1080 px.
- Choose the image display mode. Use Scale to Fill when the strip must be fully covered; use Original Size or Tile when the design calls for them.
- Adjust the image position to keep the focal subject in the visible area.
- Resize the strip to its intended desktop height and preview it at tablet and mobile widths.
- Move or simplify important visual content if a narrow viewport crops it. Recheck after changing the strip height, because a different height changes the crop.
Previewing matters more than selecting a supposedly universal dimension. Responsive layouts can show different portions of the same source image on different devices.

Choosing an image: a practical checklist
- Resolution: For a strip, meet Wix’s 1920 × 1080 px minimum recommendation. For other background contexts, follow the applicable Wix media guidance rather than assuming the strip rule applies.
- Aspect ratio: Compare the source shape with the actual strip or header shape. A closer match means less cropping.
- Focal point: Keep the subject in a central, flexible area that can survive side or edge cropping.
- Contrast: If text overlays the image, test it against both bright and dark portions of the photograph.
- Responsive behavior: Check wide desktop, tablet, and narrow mobile previews before publishing.
- File handling: Wix’s media guidance lists supported background formats and says live-site images are automatically converted to AVIF. This conversion does not change the need to upload an adequately sized source.
Header banner dimensions: why there is no single answer
Wix’s header guidance does not publish one universal pixel size. Headers can have different heights, navigation layouts, logos, and responsive behavior. Wix advises using an image with a resolution and size compatible with the header and stretching it to cover the header.
Measure the visible header area in your design, select an image with similar proportions, and test the crop. If your header is shallow, a panoramic source may preserve more of the composition than a standard 16:9 image. If the header contains navigation or a logo, leave clear space where those controls appear.
Page backgrounds versus banners
A page background is not the same as a strip or header. Wix advises that a page background should be at least as large as the monitor; its example for a 1920 × 1080 monitor is an image at least 1920 × 1080 px. Use that as page-background guidance, not as a promise that every header or strip will display at that shape.
Troubleshooting cropped or blurry Wix banners
The subject is cut off
Cause: the source and display area have different shapes, especially with Scale to Fill. Fix: open the strip settings, change the image position, reduce the strip height, or create a composition with more breathing room around the subject.

- Gestalt Banner test
The image looks stretched
Cause: the image is being forced into an incompatible area or a display mode that does not preserve the intended composition. Fix: use Scale to Fill rather than manually distorting the image, or upload a source whose aspect ratio is closer to the strip.
The banner is blurry
Cause: the source resolution is too small for the rendered area, or the image has been enlarged substantially. Fix: replace it with a source at least 1920 × 1080 px for a strip, and use a larger source when the design displays a particularly large area.
Desktop looks right but mobile does not
Cause: responsive cropping exposes a different portion of the image. Fix: preview the mobile layout, reposition the focal area, and keep essential content away from edges. If necessary, use a simpler image that tolerates aggressive cropping.
There is an unexpected gap or repeated pattern
Cause: Original Size may not cover the strip, or Tile may be enabled. Fix: select Scale to Fill for a photographic background, or intentionally choose Tile only for a repeating pattern.

The image meets 1920 × 1080 but still looks wrong
Resolution alone cannot control composition. The 1920 × 1080 figure is a minimum recommendation for strip-source resolution; it does not specify strip height, header proportions, focal-point placement, or responsive framing.

Cost and reliability considerations
For Wix editing, the most reliable workflow is to preview the actual page at the viewports your visitors use. For automated visual checks, inspect ScreenshotNeo’s X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers so your pipeline can distinguish a clean, billable capture from a failed or non-billable response. If you enable caching, choose a TTL that matches how often the page changes; cache hits are not billed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1920 × 1080 the required size for every Wix banner?
No. It is Wix’s recommendation for a strip background. Wix does not publish one universal header-banner dimension, and page-background guidance is separate.
Should I upload a 3000 × 3000 image for a strip?
Not specifically. Wix’s 3000 × 3000 minimum appears in general background-media guidance, while the strip article recommends at least 1920 × 1080 px.
Can I prevent Wix from cropping my banner completely?
Not in every responsive layout. Choose a compatible aspect ratio, use the image-position control, and keep essential content away from the edges.
