If your Wirecast YouTube stream has no sound, start by checking whether Wirecast receives audio at all. Then check the source and master mute/level controls, any multitrack routing, and finally compare a local recording with the YouTube playback. That order helps locate the fault without assuming one setting fixes every silent stream.

1. Confirm Wirecast is receiving audio

First, look for activity on the meter for the selected audio source while speaking, playing audio, or sending a test signal. If the meter does not move, YouTube settings are not the first place to troubleshoot: the signal may not be reaching Wirecast.

  • Confirm the microphone, mixer, capture device, or system-audio source is connected and selected as the intended input.
  • Check that the operating system is using the expected input device and that the device itself is producing signal. Exact operating-system controls vary, so use the settings for your OS and device rather than assuming one universal menu path.
  • If the expected device is missing, check whether its connection and audio interface are supported by your Wirecast release. Telestream documents native capture of line-in, microphone inputs, and system playback. Its Windows audio interfaces include ASIO, WASAPI, and DirectShow; DirectShow supports two channels per device. On macOS, the documented interface is AVFoundation.

If the input is present but its meter remains inactive, troubleshoot the device, connection, operating-system input selection, and supported interface before changing output routing.

2. Check source and master mute and level

If the input meter moves, inspect the selected source’s level and mute control, then the overall stream or master output level and mute in your current Wirecast mixer. A source may be audible locally but excluded from the outgoing mix, or the whole output may be muted or turned down.

Control names and layouts differ across Wirecast versions. Telestream’s December 2012 Wirecast-for-YouTube guide describes a Stream Audio control as the master for streamed audio and Live Audio controls for selected sources, including speaker icons for muting. Treat those as historical clues about source-versus-master controls, not verified labels or menu instructions for current releases.

3. Check destination routing if you use multiple tracks

If your production uses more than one audio track or a custom input map, inspect the audio track selected for the YouTube destination and the inputs assigned to that track. A Wirecast 11 guide for Windows documents an Audio Track Selection field and an optional Multi-Track Input Mapper. Those are version-specific reference points; the exact current menu path may differ, and custom mapping is not a universal requirement.

For a simple single-track production, do not change multitrack mapping at random. First confirm that the source and outgoing mix are active; investigate destination track selection when your project actually uses multiple tracks or custom routing.

4. Compare the monitor, a recording, and YouTube playback

Listen to Wirecast’s local monitor and, if possible, make a local recording or controlled playback of the output. Then compare those results with the actual YouTube stream. The comparison helps identify which stage differs: for example, audible local recording but silent YouTube playback points away from a failed capture input.

Monitor silence or noise alone does not prove the transmitted stream is silent. Telestream’s release history documented a version-specific issue in which output-device settings of 44.1 kHz or 96 kHz could cause monitor noise without affecting broadcast or recorded output. That historical note applies to the versions described in that release history; it is not a general recommendation to change your current sample rate.

5. Gather evidence before escalating

If source, mixer, and relevant routing checks do not resolve the problem, collect the details that distinguish capture, mixing, routing, and playback faults:
