Wirecast desktop is offered as a fully functional trial with no time limit and no credit card required, while its paid Studio and Pro editions are distinguished mainly by production features—not a documented YouTube streaming limit. Telestream’s comparison lists Studio at $599 and Pro at $799. It does not state whether the desktop trial adds a watermark, so check with Telestream if that detail affects your decision. YouTube’s account eligibility and stream limits apply whichever Wirecast edition you use.

Wirecast free vs. paid at a glance

Option What Telestream lists YouTube streaming implications
Wirecast desktop trial “Fully functional trial with no time limit and no credit card required.” The reviewed product material does not specify watermark behavior or enumerate all trial-specific restrictions. The trial is not presented as a separate free desktop edition, and no trial-specific YouTube output cap is documented in the reviewed pages.
Wirecast Studio $599 listed by Telestream; two simultaneous Rendezvous guests. YouTube is listed among its built-in destinations, along with unlimited destinations.
Wirecast Pro $799 listed by Telestream; seven simultaneous Rendezvous guests, plus additional production features including instant replay and virtual sets. YouTube is listed among its built-in destinations, along with unlimited destinations. The comparison does not document a YouTube-only streaming unlock over Studio.

Prices and feature matrices can change; the figures above are those listed on Telestream’s comparison page when checked in 2026. For the current tier-by-tier feature list, see Telestream’s Wirecast Product Comparison.

What does the Wirecast desktop trial limit?

Telestream describes the desktop trial as fully functional, unlimited in duration, and available without a credit card. Those statements do not settle every practical question about the trial. In particular, the public material reviewed does not say whether trial output is watermarked or list every trial-specific restriction. Do not assume either that a watermark is present or that none is present; verify the current terms with Telestream before using trial output for a production that cannot tolerate one.

The trial should not be confused with a permanently free desktop edition: Telestream’s public product material describes a trial and lists paid Studio and Pro editions. Its general product page discusses YouTube and multistreaming, but the comparison does not identify a paid-tier YouTube destination advantage. See Telestream’s Wirecast product page for the trial description.

Wirecast Studio vs. Pro: which paid edition fits?

Choose based on the production features you need, not on an assumed difference in YouTube access. Both paid editions list YouTube as a built-in destination and list unlimited destinations. The clearest quantified difference in the comparison is the number of simultaneous Wirecast Rendezvous guests: two in Studio and seven in Pro.

  • Studio: a fit to consider if two simultaneous remote guests are enough and you do not need Pro-specific production capabilities.
  • Pro: consider it if you need the listed seven simultaneous guests or features such as instant replay and virtual sets. The comparison also lists additional Pro audio and production features; review its current matrix to confirm a specific feature before buying.

Both editions list five main mixing layers. Telestream’s comparison is the appropriate place to check the full current matrix; the available information does not establish that paying for Pro raises a YouTube bitrate, resolution, or concurrent-stream allowance.

Wirecast Go is a different product

Wirecast Go is Telestream’s iPhone app, not the desktop trial. Telestream’s page describes a free version that can stream directly to YouTube, use one camera, add images, logos, and graphics, switch between two shots, and stream without a duration limit. The page also lists a $5.99 in-app upgrade for streaming to any RTMP destination, replay highlights, unlimited shots, and private or unlisted YouTube broadcasts.

Those details are from Telestream’s Wirecast Go page, whose device and iOS-version information may be out of date. Verify current compatibility and in-app purchase details in the current app listing before relying on them. YouTube eligibility still applies. Do not apply Go’s mobile feature list to Wirecast desktop. See Telestream’s Wirecast Go page.

YouTube eligibility and stream limits apply to every Wirecast edition

A Wirecast license cannot override YouTube’s channel rules. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current getting-started guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming tips and YouTube’s getting-started guidance for the current requirements.

YouTube’s getting-started page lists two concurrent ceilings: up to 10 active streams per channel and up to three active streams per stream key. Both apply at the same time. These are YouTube platform limits, not Wirecast Studio-versus-Pro limits.

Plan and test an encoder stream before going live

YouTube recommends preparing encoder broadcasts ahead of the event rather than discovering setup problems at showtime. Its guidance calls for setting up at least two hours ahead, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event, and checking the Live Control Room preview before starting. It also recommends testing failover where relevant, confirming archive files, and monitoring audio and video quality during the broadcast.

  1. Confirm channel eligibility. Verify the channel and check for any live-stream restriction within the previous 90 days; ensure the streamer meets YouTube’s stated age requirement.
  2. Choose the Wirecast edition by production needs. Use the Studio/Pro feature comparison for guest count and other features. Do not buy Pro solely on the assumption that it unlocks YouTube streaming.
  3. Prepare early. Allow at least two hours for encoder setup before the event, as YouTube recommends.
  4. Start the encoder early and preview. Start Wirecast at least 15 minutes before the event, then confirm the incoming picture and sound in YouTube Live Control Room before beginning the event.
  5. Monitor and verify the result. Watch audio and video quality during the stream; test failover if applicable and confirm the archive is saved as expected.

Common decision snags

  • Need to know if the trial has a watermark? Telestream’s public desktop trial description does not answer that. Ask Telestream or verify in the current trial terms before using it for a watermark-sensitive broadcast.
  • Can’t go live despite having a paid license? Check YouTube verification and account restrictions first. Software licensing does not remove platform eligibility rules.
  • Can’t start another broadcast? Check both YouTube ceilings: active streams per channel and active streams per key. Staying below one cap does not cancel the other.
  • Choosing Pro just for YouTube? The comparison lists YouTube for both Studio and Pro. Compare production needs such as guest count, replay, and virtual sets instead.

Or let it run in the cloud

Wirecast is a desktop production tool; if your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo plays the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and does not stream from a camera.
