Capcom says the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds targets a stable 30 FPS in handheld mode, including during four-player multiplayer hunts. That is a stated development target—not a measured result—so it does not yet confirm how the game performs in retail gameplay.
Will Monster Hunter Wilds run at a stable 30 FPS on Switch 2?
That is Capcom’s goal for handheld play. Producer Genki Sunano told Kotaku on September 29, 2026 that the team aimed for the game “to run at a stable 30 FPS in handheld mode, even during four-player multiplayer hunts.”

The distinction matters: “targets” describes what the developers are aiming to deliver, not a frame-rate result independently measured in gameplay. TweakTown’s October 1, 2026 report likewise characterizes 30 FPS as a target rather than a tested result. Until gameplay testing or final performance details are available, the evidence supports Capcom’s intention, not a guarantee that the game will hold 30 FPS in every situation.
Does the 30 FPS target include four-player hunts?
Yes. Sunano specifically included four-player multiplayer hunts when describing the handheld target. This does not establish that the target has been independently verified during a hunt, nor does the reporting specify a separate frame-rate target for solo play or other multiplayer conditions.

What did Capcom change to optimize the Switch 2 version?
Sunano described the port as an effort to deliver a natural Monster Hunter Wilds experience rather than simply scale down the graphics or performance. According to the Kotaku interview, the team reviewed assets and their underlying processing individually, rebuilt some assets and shaders, and replaced visual techniques and internal processing with approaches intended to work more efficiently on handheld hardware.
Capcom says it tried to preserve the game’s look and feel while making those changes. Sunano called the work “this painstaking, and at times seemingly endless, process of making decisions and optimizations one by one.” These are the developer’s descriptions of its work, not independent technical measurements of image quality or performance.

Why visual effects had to match gameplay behavior
Sunano also said the team checked modified visual effects against the game’s existing hitboxes and collision detection. That constraint is important: changing how an effect is rendered should not change how attacks connect or how collisions behave. The stated goal was to make visual optimizations without altering the gameplay feel.
What Switch 2 performance details are still unknown?
The reports establish a handheld frame-rate target, but do not give measured performance results, a handheld resolution, or the frame rate and resolution for docked play. They also do not confirm cross-platform multiplayer. Those details should not be inferred from the 30 FPS target or from Capcom’s account of its optimization work.

When is the Switch 2 version due?
The two reports disagree on the release date. Kotaku gives December 4, 2026, while TweakTown gives December 5, 2026. The available reporting does not resolve the difference, so the exact date remains uncertain pending an official confirmation; there is no basis here to explain it as a regional or time-zone variation.
Could the Switch 2 work improve other versions?
Sunano said Capcom plans to apply lessons from the Switch 2 port to performance improvements on existing platforms ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. The reports do not quantify those expected improvements, identify specific changes, or provide a schedule beyond that stated timing.
