What is Sony’s new QSSR feature?
Announced on October 1, 2026, Quick Spectral Super Resolution is Sony’s new AI-upscaling library for PS5. Sony describes it as a “new performance tier of AI upscaling,” developed from Project Amethyst, its graphics collaboration with AMD. The company says QSSR pairs a streamlined neural-network architecture with an implementation tuned for PS5 performance. Sony’s announcement characterizes QSSR as a way to improve image detail and stability.
Sony distinguishes QSSR from the more capable PSSR tier it calls the “gold standard on PS5 Pro.” That makes QSSR Pro-like in its use of AI upscaling, but it is not evidence that standard PS5 will receive the same implementation or results as PS5 Pro. Sony’s descriptions are claims about the technology, not independent comparative tests.
Is QSSR confirmed for GTA VI?
No. Sony said Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei were being patched on October 1 to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option, and that the library would be offered broadly to PlayStation developers. The announcement does not name GTA VI. Making the library available to developers does not confirm that a particular game will adopt it.

Sony’s June announcement about GTA VI on PS5 discusses immersive console features, but does not say the game uses QSSR. Neither that announcement nor Sony’s QSSR announcement specifies a GTA VI resolution, frame-rate target, or QSSR performance gain.
What is confirmed about GTA VI on PlayStation?
PlayStation lists GTA VI for PS5 and PS5 Pro, with a release date of November 19, 2026. It is not listed for PS4. Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 extended look is described as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That identifies the footage’s capture platform; it does not establish QSSR support, a PS5 Pro comparison, or final performance specifications.

Sony specifically highlights these PS5 features for GTA VI:
- DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers
- Effects through the DualSense controller speaker
- Tempest 3D AudioTech
- The console’s high-speed SSD for near-instant loading
Sony says GTA VI will “play best on PS5” by using the console’s immersive features. That is Sony’s promotional statement, not an independent benchmark comparing PS5 with PS5 Pro.

What QSSR does—and does not—tell you about choosing a console

A GTA VI-specific announcement from Rockstar or PlayStation would be needed to confirm QSSR adoption or provide supported technical details. Until then, treat QSSR as a promising PS5 graphics feature with two named first titles—not as a confirmed GTA VI feature. Sony’s current GTA VI details emphasize controller feedback, audio, and loading instead.
