A slightly warm iPhone on a wireless charging stand is usually normal. If it becomes too warm, iOS may slow or pause charging until the phone cools. Remove the case, clear the charging surface, check alignment, and move the stand to a cool, ventilated spot. If you see a temperature warning, stop charging and let the iPhone cool before trying again.
Why an iPhone warms up on a wireless charger
Wireless charging transfers power through magnetic induction, and Apple lists wireless charging among normal activities that can make an iPhone feel slightly warm. Warmth alone does not mean the phone or stand is defective. Apple says, “These conditions are normal. Your device will cool when the process has finished or when you complete your activity.” Apple’s temperature guidance includes wireless charging among those activities.
If the iPhone gets too warm, its temperature protections can limit charging. Apple explains, “If your iPhone gets too warm, charging may slow or stop until the temperature lowers.” iOS may also limit charging above 80 percent if the battery becomes too warm. Charging can resume once the device returns to a safe temperature. Apple’s guide to thermally limited charging describes this behavior.
What to do when your iPhone gets hot on a charging stand

Check for a temperature warning
If the Lock Screen says “Charging On Hold,” the iPhone is temporarily too hot or too cold to charge. Disconnect it from the stand and let it return to a safe temperature; charging can resume automatically. If a temperature warning screen appears, turn the iPhone off, move it to a cooler place away from direct sunlight, and let it cool. Apple’s temperature guidance explains the warning and response.

Move the stand to a cooler location
Keep the phone and charger out of direct sunlight, a hot car, or other hot spaces. Apple’s stated ambient operating range for iPhone is 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F); this is an ambient-use range, not a surface-temperature limit. Choose a ventilated spot, and do not charge the phone under bedding or a pillow. Apple’s temperature guidance covers operating conditions.

Remove the case for a test
Take the iPhone out of its case and try charging it again. Apple advises removing a case if the phone tends to heat up while charging. Thick, metal, or battery cases can also interfere with wireless charging or contribute to slow charging. If the phone stays cooler without the case, check the case maker’s wireless-charging guidance before using it on the stand. Apple’s wireless-charging guidance lists case and charging considerations.

Clear the stand and reposition the phone
Remove cards, badges, keys, and other objects from between the iPhone and the charging surface. Keep metal objects off the charger, and position the phone centrally or wherever the stand maker specifies. Incorrect placement or something between the phone and charger can interfere with charging. Apple’s wireless-charging guidance and its MagSafe setup instructions explain placement and accessory considerations.

Keep the phone and charger uncovered
Do not cover the iPhone or stand while charging. Good airflow helps the setup shed heat; sustained contact with a warm device or charger can cause discomfort or injury. If the phone is already too warm, let it cool rather than continuing to charge it. Apple’s temperature guidance includes these precautions.

Check the accessory if the issue keeps recurring
After the phone has cooled, repeat the checks above. If it still becomes abnormally hot or temperature alerts recur, verify that the stand is suitable for your exact iPhone model and is Qi-certified, or use a compatible MagSafe setup. Apple recommends Qi-certified chargers in its safety guidance and provides model-specific MagSafe instructions; compatibility depends on the iPhone and accessory. If the problem persists after basic checks, contact Apple Support.
What temperature is too hot for an iPhone?
Apple states an ambient operating range of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F), but this is not a measurement threshold for the phone’s surface. The support guidance does not give users a numeric surface-temperature cutoff for diagnosing a fault. Use iOS temperature alerts and charging behavior as signals to stop and let the phone cool; do not rely on an invented touch test or temperature number.
