If a World of Warcraft beta is not appearing in Battle.net, the most likely cause is not a damaged WoW installation. Beta access is controlled by the specific test, its dates, and a license flag on the correct Battle.net account. First confirm that the beta you mean is still running; then check Your Game Accounts, update and restart the Battle.net app, and look in World of Warcraft → Game Version above the Play button. For Blizzard’s documented World of Warcraft: Forever test, the option appears under In Development as World of Warcraft: Forever Beta. An opt-in or an email alone does not guarantee access, and a qualifying digital purchase may take up to 30 minutes to register only for the offer Blizzard described.

What does “WoW beta not showing” usually mean?

A missing beta entry is normally an entitlement or availability question, not an installation failure. Battle.net shows a beta only when Blizzard has made that particular test available, your signed-in account has the required flag or purchase, and the launcher has refreshed its account data.

Use this order because each check rules out a different cause:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Identify the exact test and its dates. A test that has ended will not remain available merely because an older announcement or an invitation email exists.
  2. Verify the Battle.net account and license. Blizzard says selected players are already flagged for access; opting in only makes an account eligible for selection.
  3. Use the beta control in the launcher. The beta is chosen from Game Version, not from the separate WoW account selector.
  4. Refresh the launcher. Update Battle.net, sign out and back in if necessary, and restart it after an eligible purchase.
  5. Escalate only after the account visibly qualifies. If an active beta license is present but no version appears, use Blizzard’s support and breaking-news channels.

This sequence also prevents a common mistake: reinstalling the live game when the account has never received beta access.

Is the beta you want still available?

Before changing anything on your PC, check Blizzard’s announcement for the named test. The publisher’s World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Now Live announcement says October 21 was the final full day of that test. The retrieved page does not make the publication year unambiguous, so treat that date as evidence about the specific Forever announcement, not proof that every WoW beta has ended or that another beta is currently open.

Do not merge the Forever test with The War Within alpha or beta instructions. Blizzard’s older June 7, 2024, This Week in WoW article describes The War Within beta and an offer that applied at that time. It cannot establish a current 2026 entitlement, purchase requirement, or launch date.

Look for a current Blizzard post that names the exact expansion or project, identifies whether access is by selection, testing sign-up, or a qualifying purchase, and gives an end date. If no active announcement exists, a missing dropdown item is expected behavior rather than a launcher defect.

Where is the beta in the Battle.net Game Version menu?

When your account qualifies and the test is active, the beta is selected from the version menu above Play. The exact label changes by test; for the documented Forever beta, Blizzard’s path is:

  1. Open and update the Battle.net desktop app.
  2. Select World of Warcraft in the games list.
  3. Above the Play button, open Game Version.
  4. Under In Development, choose World of Warcraft: Forever Beta.
  5. Select Install and choose the destination when prompted.

The ordinary live WoW version, Classic versions, and any WoW account dropdown are not substitutes for the beta entry. If the version menu shows only live or Classic products, continue with the account and availability checks rather than installing another copy of the live game.

Another test may use a different name, such as an expansion-specific alpha or beta. Do not assume that an old label remains valid; use the name in the current Blizzard announcement.

Why does opting in not make the beta appear?

Opt-in is usually permission to be considered, not a guaranteed invitation. Blizzard’s Forever announcement states: “If selected, your Battle.net account is already flagged for access.” That means the account flag, rather than the opt-in form or a hoped-for email, is what the launcher uses to expose the beta.

Sign in to Battle.net directly instead of following a sign-in link in an unexpected message. In your account-management area, open Your Game Accounts and look for the matching beta license or game account. Blizzard identifies that location as the place to verify an invitation. If the license is absent, the launcher cannot be forced to display the beta by reinstalling files or switching regions.

Invitation emails can be delayed, filtered, spoofed, or sent to an address different from the account you are currently using. An email is useful as a notice, but the account record is the decisive check. If a message asks for credentials, open Battle.net or Blizzard’s account site manually and inspect the account there.

How do I check that I am using the right Battle.net account?

Account mismatch is one of the easiest causes to overlook, especially when a household has several Battle.net logins or when the launcher remembered an old session.

  1. Open the account menu in Battle.net and note the email or account identity currently signed in.
  2. Sign in to Blizzard’s account-management page independently in a browser.
  3. Open Your Game Accounts and inspect the licenses attached to that identity.
  4. Compare the account that owns the qualifying purchase or received the invitation with the account displayed in the desktop app.
  5. If they differ, sign out of Battle.net completely and sign back in to the account that actually holds the entitlement.

A WoW subscription or an existing live-game license does not automatically equal a beta license. The beta must be attached to the account for the named test. If the correct account has no beta entry in account management, contact Blizzard rather than attempting to transfer or duplicate a license.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

I have an invitation but no beta option—what should I do?

First verify that the invitation refers to the same test whose announcement you are following and that the account named in the message has the license. Then refresh the launcher. If the account visibly has access to an active test, the missing menu entry is a genuine account-to-launcher mismatch; if the account has no license or the test has ended, the missing entry is expected.

Use this checklist:

  • Confirm the test name, region, and availability dates in Blizzard’s announcement.
  • Check Your Game Accounts rather than relying on the email alone.
  • Update Battle.net to the latest available desktop-app version.
  • Sign out, close the launcher, reopen it, and sign in to the qualifying account.
  • Open World of Warcraft → Game Version and inspect In Development.
  • Check Blizzard’s breaking-news notices for a service issue or a changed test schedule.

Do not buy a physical game, a printed guide, a purported boxed beta key, or system-repair software to solve an absent account flag. The documented access paths are account selection or an explicitly qualifying digital offer; unrelated hardware and utilities cannot create that entitlement.

How long should a qualifying purchase take to unlock the beta?

For the Forever offer specifically, Blizzard says eligible purchasers of the named digital bundles may experience a delay of up to 30 minutes and may need to restart the Battle.net app. This is an offer-specific operational window, not a universal guarantee for every WoW beta or every purchase route.

After buying an eligible digital bundle, allow the stated period to pass, then close and relaunch Battle.net and check the Game Version menu again. If the purchase appears in your account but the beta does not, confirm that the offer is still active and that the test itself has not reached its cutoff. If the purchase or license is missing entirely, resolve the account or order issue first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Blizzard’s announcement names the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection as qualifying digital bundles for that Forever test. Because the same announcement gives October 21 as the final full day of testing, it should not be treated as a standing buy-now instruction. Verify a currently active offer on the official Blizzard Shop before purchasing anything for test access.

What if the Game Version menu is present but the beta is still absent?

Separate a missing menu entry from an installation, network, or permissions problem. If the beta version is listed but installation fails, you have a launcher or download issue. If the version is not listed at all, the problem is usually availability, account selection, or entitlement synchronization.

What you see Most likely explanation Next action
No current announcement or the stated test end date has passed The test is unavailable Wait for a new official test announcement; do not reinstall WoW to create an ended beta.
Opt-in completed, but no beta license in Your Game Accounts The account was not selected or the offer does not apply Check the exact test rules and account identity.
Beta license is present, but Game Version has no beta Launcher cache or entitlement synchronization issue Update, sign out, restart, and check again; then contact Blizzard support.
Beta appears, but Install fails Download, storage, permissions, or service problem Follow Blizzard’s technical troubleshooting route and check service notices.
Beta installs but will not launch Could be a separate client, patch, account, or server issue Use the test’s current support instructions; do not infer that the missing-entry fixes apply.

Blizzard’s public support search includes World of Warcraft Alpha or Beta Access. The detailed article may require an account sign-in, so rely only on the instructions visible to you and provide support with the account, test name, and license information.

Should I reinstall WoW, delete folders, or change my password?

Not as a first-line fix for an absent beta menu. The available evidence does not establish that deleting game files, reinstalling the live client, changing a password, or using a repair utility grants a missing beta entitlement. Those actions can consume time or create a separate configuration problem while leaving the account flag unchanged.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reinstallation becomes reasonable only after the beta is visibly listed and Blizzard’s troubleshooting instructions identify damaged or missing client files. A password change is appropriate for a security concern, not as a way to obtain test access. If you suspect an account compromise, secure the account through Blizzard’s official site and then verify the license again.

How can I tell an entitlement problem from a connection problem?

An entitlement problem happens before downloading: the beta name is missing from Game Version and no matching license is visible. A connection or installation problem happens after the beta is listed and you select Install or Play.

This distinction tells support what to investigate. Saying “the beta is missing” when it is actually installed but failing to launch can send the diagnosis down the wrong path.

What should I send Blizzard Support if none of this works?

Provide a concise, verifiable account of the mismatch:

  • The exact beta or alpha name.
  • The Blizzard announcement URL and the date you checked it.
  • The Battle.net account identity, without sending your password or security codes.
  • Whether the matching license appears under Your Game Accounts.
  • Whether access came from selection, opt-in, or a named digital purchase.
  • The time you updated and restarted Battle.net.
  • A screenshot of the Game Version menu with personal information redacted.

Before opening a ticket, check Blizzard’s breaking-news notices and the test’s official announcement again. If the test ended, support cannot restore a menu item for that closed test; if the account is flagged for an active test, those details help Blizzard investigate an entitlement synchronization issue.

A compact decision tree for the missing-beta message

Is the exact beta currently announced as active? If no, stop: the missing entry is expected. If yes, continue.

Does the correct account show the beta license under Your Game Accounts? If no, opt-in has not produced selection or the purchase does not qualify. If yes, continue.

Is the launcher updated and signed in to that same account? If no, update, sign out, restart, and sign in again. If yes, continue.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does World of Warcraft → Game Version show the named beta under In Development? If yes, select it and install. If no, apply the documented purchase delay when it applies, restart once more, check service notices, and then contact Blizzard Support with the license evidence.

The practical conclusion is simple: Battle.net cannot display a beta that is closed or not attached to the signed-in account. Once the test is active and the license is present, the Game Version menu and a launcher refresh are the relevant fixes; reinstalling the live game is not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a WoW subscription unlock beta access automatically?

No. A live-game subscription or ordinary WoW license is not, by itself, proof of access to a named alpha or beta. Look for the specific beta license or the current test’s stated qualifying offer on the correct Battle.net account.

Why does my friend see the beta while I do not?

Beta selection is account-specific, so two players can use the same launcher and see different versions. Your friend’s account may have been selected or may meet a purchase condition that yours does not; compare account licenses rather than launcher settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use a beta key bought from another player?

Do not assume a physical or third-party key supplies Blizzard’s account flag. The documented access methods are the account selection or official qualifying offer described for that test, and suspicious key or sign-in requests can create security risks.

Does changing the Battle.net region reveal a missing beta?

Changing region is not an established way to create entitlement. Use the region and account specified by the official test announcement; if the license is present but the option remains absent, document the mismatch for Blizzard Support.

What information should I hide in a screenshot for support?

Redact your email address, account identifiers, order numbers, authentication codes, and any payment details that are not necessary. Leave the test name, Game Version menu, and relevant error message visible so support can distinguish an entitlement issue from an installation failure.
