Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If a Windows 10 screenshot looks orange, yellow, or washed out while the screen itself looks normal, check the display’s color profile first. A Microsoft Q&A response identifies color-profile settings as a possible cause and suggests testing the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile. That is community guidance, not confirmation that Microsoft released a fix for one specific screenshot bug.
Why can a Windows 10 screenshot look orange?
A screenshot’s colors can differ from the live display. In a May 14, 2023 Microsoft Q&A answer, Independent Advisor John Jefferson Doyon attributed an orange capture to the computer’s color-profile settings and recommended testing the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 device profile. Other Microsoft Q&A users have reported orange, yellow, or washed-out captures, but those reports do not establish one cause for every case.
A graphics-driver problem or an incompatible app can also cause display-rendering problems, according to Microsoft’s general troubleshooting guidance. The available evidence does not establish that Microsoft announced a permanent fix for this exact orange screenshot symptom.
How to troubleshoot orange screenshots
- Check the display itself. Look at the same content on screen. If the physical display also appears discolored, investigate display and graphics settings rather than treating this as a screenshot-only problem.
- Test the color profile. Open Windows Color Management, select the display device, and go to the Advanced settings. Choose “sRGB IEC61966-2.1” as the device profile and set it as the default, following the Microsoft Q&A suggestion. Then take a new capture and compare it with the original. This is community guidance, so note the current profile first and restore it if the change makes colors worse. See the Microsoft Q&A response.
- Restart the graphics driver. Press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B. Microsoft says this shortcut resets the graphics driver; the screen may briefly flicker or go dark. If the problem continues, use Microsoft’s display troubleshooting guidance to consider updating, rolling back, or uninstalling the display driver as appropriate. Microsoft’s display troubleshooting steps explain the driver options.
- Compare capture methods. Test Snipping Tool, Print Screen pasted into Paint, and another available capture method. If only one method produces the tint, that points toward a tool-specific capture path; if several do, record the details before changing more settings.
- Record what changed. Note your Windows version, HDR and display settings, GPU model, affected capture methods, and whether the issue began after a driver or app change. Those details help distinguish a profile, driver, or application issue without assuming a universal fix.
Which troubleshooting step should you try first?
| Step | What it changes | Likely scope | Reversibility | Guidance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test the sRGB device profile | Color management | May affect how the display’s colors are interpreted beyond screenshots | Record the current profile so you can restore it | Suggested in a Microsoft Q&A answer by an Independent Advisor; not a confirmed universal fix. Source. |
| Reset, update, roll back, or uninstall the graphics driver | Graphics driver | Can affect screen rendering beyond screenshots | Depends on the driver action; follow the applicable Windows recovery guidance | Microsoft’s general display troubleshooting guidance. Source. |
| Compare capture methods | No settings change; isolates the capture path | Helps identify whether the symptom is tool-specific | Fully reversible; it is a comparison only | Diagnostic step; no universal outcome is established. |
What Windows 10 support status means for this issue
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says that after that date it no longer provides free software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes through Windows Update for Windows 10. That lifecycle change does not confirm or resolve the screenshot-color issue. Microsoft’s lifecycle announcement explains the support end date.
