First check where the mismatch begins: compare OBS’s program output with the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. If OBS already shows the wrong episode, look at its active scene, source visibility and order, and the file or playlist selected. If OBS shows the intended episode but YouTube does not, check YouTube’s stream-health indicator and timestamped errors. Those diagnostics can help identify delivery or encoding problems, but they do not identify which episode you meant to play.
Find where the wrong episode first appears
Compare the content in OBS’s program output with the YouTube Live Control Room preview. This is a practical way to separate two kinds of problem; OBS and YouTube do not provide a dedicated “wrong episode” diagnostic.
- Wrong in OBS and YouTube: Start with the OBS scene and the source that supplies the episode. Check which scene is active, which sources are visible, their stacking order, and the media file or playlist selection.
- Right in OBS, wrong in YouTube: Check the received stream’s health and timestamped errors in Live Control Room. This points toward stream delivery or configuration, rather than proving that OBS selected the wrong file.
Also identify what is actually wrong: the video, audio, stream title or thumbnail, or the replay. A mismatch limited to metadata or a replay may not be the same problem as incorrect video in the live output.
If the wrong episode is already in OBS
Confirm the active scene and source order
OBS scenes and sources determine what appears in its output. Make sure the intended scene is active and the source containing the episode is visible. In the Sources list, a source higher in the stack appears above one below it, so a different video source can cover the intended one. Use the eye control to show or hide a source. See the official OBS Sources Guide.

Check a local Media Source
If the episode comes from a Media Source, open its properties and verify the selected file. Check the playback options as well: OBS documents “Restart playback when source becomes active” as on by default and “Loop” as off by default. If “Close file when inactive” is enabled, hiding or deactivating the source can unload the file; showing it again may require a short reload. These controls can affect when playback starts or what happens when a source is reactivated, so confirm they suit your scene setup. See OBS Media Sources.
Check a VLC playlist
If the episodes are queued through VLC Video, verify that the intended episode is in the playlist and in the expected position. OBS documents playlist looping as on by default and shuffle as off by default; check the actual settings rather than assuming they were changed. VLC Video requires VLC to be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

Check captured content separately
If the source is a browser, window, or display capture rather than a Media Source or VLC playlist, inspect the captured app or page itself. Confirm it is showing the intended episode and that OBS is capturing the correct window or display. The available OBS documentation establishes how scenes and sources compose output, but does not establish a single cause for this particular symptom.
If OBS is right but YouTube is wrong
Open the stream in YouTube Live Control Room and inspect the health indicator and any timestamped errors beside it. YouTube’s live streaming error messages cover received-stream issues such as format, codec, bitrate, audio sample rate and channel count, video settings, and keyframes. These checks concern ingestion and stream quality; they do not reveal which episode file OBS selected.

For deeper configuration diagnostics, YouTube’s Live Streaming API health status reports issues such as missing or multiple audio or video streams, codecs, bitrates, frame rate, and keyframe frequency. Use it to investigate the stream’s configuration, not content selection.
Capture the details needed to narrow it down
If the mismatch continues, record the facts below before changing several settings at once. They make it easier to distinguish a playback issue from a source-selection or delivery problem.

An individual issue report opened against OBS 28.1.2 on Windows 10 in 2022 described intermittent audio disagreement while switching scenes. It is not evidence that this symptom is a general or current OBS defect, or that it explains a wrong podcast episode.
