What changed—and why users are frustrated
The 2026 complaints are not all about one update. Some concern the value of points when redeeming a reward; others concern how users earn points and find activities in a redesigned dashboard. Those are separate issues, and the reported changes have not been documented as one universal before-and-after schedule for every country or account.

Reported redemption-cost increases in the U.S. and U.K.
In February 2026, Windows Central reported that the points cost of Xbox gift cards had increased in the United States and United Kingdom. Its examples were a U.S. $10 gift card rising from 9,500 to 10,000 points and a U.K. £10 gift card rising from 11,780 to 12,400 points—about 5.3% in each example. These are reported regional comparisons, not a complete Microsoft price list or a guarantee of today’s cost.
Fewer or harder-to-find earning activities
In Microsoft Q&A discussions, individual users said quizzes, polls and other activities had been reduced or removed, and that tasks were harder to find. These posts help explain why some users feel the program has become less rewarding or more cumbersome, but they do not establish how widespread those experiences are.

A redesigned dashboard and new tiers
Windows Central reported on April 18, 2026 that the redesigned program included Member, Silver and Gold tiers, monthly bonuses and more earning opportunities. The report described a staged expansion across markets, with parts of the system already visible in some regions—not a single global launch on one date. A new tier structure and navigation can make the service feel different even when a user’s complaint is not about a particular redemption price.
What the reports do—and do not—establish
The available reporting offers specific examples, but not a complete account-by-account comparison. It does not establish that all members lost the same activities, received identical point rates, or faced the same rewards and tier thresholds. Keep these parts of the experience distinct:

- Earning: Which activities are available and how many points they award.
- Redemption: How many points a particular reward costs.
- Availability: Which rewards appear in a member’s country and account.
- Tiers: Which benefits and thresholds apply under the member’s version of the program.
- Navigation: How easily a member can locate activities and complete a claim.
Q&A questions such as “Why were Microsoft Rewards reduced so drastically?” and “Is microsoft going to revert their changes on the rewards program?” are authentic examples of individual users’ concerns, not evidence that most users agree or that a reversal is planned. The phrase “I want the old Level 2 back please” likewise reflects one user’s response to a dashboard and tier change.
Why Microsoft says Rewards can change
In a March 2026 Microsoft Q&A thread, external staff moderator Alex-L said: “What Microsoft has stated publicly is that Microsoft Rewards activities, point values, and availability change over time by design.” That is a moderator’s explanation of the general policy, not a detailed announcement explaining the cause of each 2026 change.

Microsoft’s Services Agreement says it “reserves the right to change, modify, discontinue, or cancel the Rewards Program or any part thereof at any time, in its sole discretion, and without prior notice.” This describes Microsoft’s stated contractual discretion; it does not reveal why a particular activity or point value changed. The reviewed sources do not establish a specific business motive for the cuts.

- Open your Microsoft Rewards dashboard and review the current balance, available activities and rewards shown for your account.
- Check the displayed point cost and terms for the exact reward before deciding what your balance is worth. Do not assume that an older price report still applies.
- Compare what you can earn and redeem in your own region. Microsoft’s Rewards support guidance says offers vary by country; some gift cards are not always available, and support cannot say when a card will be restocked or removed.
For a current decision, the rewards and point costs visible in your own dashboard are more useful than historical U.S. or U.K. examples. The sources reviewed do not establish that Microsoft will restore the earlier earning activities, redemption rates, or dashboard layout.
