If your Indian card is declined for a recurring YouTube membership, a common India-specific cause is that the card or issuing bank cannot complete the required e-mandate for automatic payments. Other possibilities include incorrect or expired card details, insufficient funds, a Google payment-profile verification request, or a bank restriction. The decline message by itself does not reveal which cause applies.
First, check whether the payment is recurring
Google Pay Help says an e-mandate is required for automatic or recurring card payments in India. It describes an e-mandate as an agreement between card users and merchants that enables recurring payments, established after successful OTP validation. Google also says not all banks support the process yet.

That means a card can work for ordinary purchases but still fail to set up recurring billing for a YouTube membership. YouTube Premium billing guidance specifically tells members in India that they may need to verify or re-enter payment details to maintain a recurring membership, and notes that the bank may not support recurring payments. Follow the current prompts in YouTube or on youtube.com.
This is not evidence that the Reserve Bank of India personally declined your transaction. The immediate cause may be the issuing bank’s support or authorization decision, an account verification issue, or another card problem.

Work through the likely causes

Read the alert in your Google payment profile
Open your Google payment profile and look for an alert or request to fix or verify account information. Complete the requested verification before trying again. Google’s YouTube payment guidance says a payment can fail when account information needs attention.

Check the saved payment details
Confirm that the card number and expiry date saved to the account are current, and that the billing address matches the information held by the issuer. Check whether the card has expired. Correct any mismatch before retrying.

Check available funds
Google lists insufficient funds as a possible reason for a declined payment. Check the account balance or available credit and account for any other pending transactions that could affect it.

Ask the issuer about the declined attempt
Contact the bank or card issuer and ask whether it can see the specific attempted YouTube transaction and why it was declined. Ask whether the card is enabled for online transactions, international transactions if relevant, and recurring payments or e-mandates. The issuer is best placed to identify a bank-side decline reason; Google’s general troubleshooting guidance cannot diagnose an individual card.

Choose an option your account actually offers
If the card cannot support automatic recurring payments, Google says some new YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscribers may be prompted to choose a prepaid plan. Payment methods vary by country and billing platform, so rely on the options shown for your own account. The available guidance does not establish that every subscriber will see both recurring and prepaid options.

- YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium billing guidance is not the same as YouTube TV guidance, which is a different service and market.
