Google Play can recommend games using Play activity, content acquired through Play, and information in your Google Account. You can turn off Play personalization or stop new activity from being saved to Play History, but neither setting is a universal off switch for all data processing. They also do not control a game’s own data practices or erase activity stored in a Play Games profile.
Why is Google Play recommending games to me?
With Play personalization enabled, Google says it may use your Play History, Play content such as items you have acquired, and information in your Google Account to personalize relevant search results, recommendations, and offers. Recommendations or offers may appear in Google Play and in apps and games distributed through Play. See Google’s Play personalization and history guidance.
Play History can include Google Play searches, apps used on your device, app detail pages you viewed, and offers you interacted with. App usage can include which apps were opened and how long they were used. Google says it receives developer-shared app usage only when Play History is configured to include it.
These store recommendations are distinct from activity connected to a Play Games profile, and both are distinct from how an individual game collects or shares data.

How do I turn off personalized game recommendations?
- Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Personalization in Play.
- Tap Personalise Play and turn the setting off.
That is the documented path in Google’s current help page; labels or navigation may change. Google says the change can take up to 24 hours to take effect. With the setting off, Google says it will not use Google Account information for Play personalization. Play can still tailor the experience using information such as your device, country, and installed apps.
If you want to limit particular inputs rather than switch off the main setting, the same menu may offer controls for device details and individual Play content. Availability of those options can vary.

Does turning off Play History stop Google collecting app activity?
No. Turning Play History off stops new activity from being saved to your account’s Play History, according to Google. It does not mean Google stops collecting or processing all Play activity. Google says it may still process data for purposes described in its Play privacy and history guidance, including temporary processing for contextual experiences, debugging, and maintenance. Other enabled features may also keep their own records.
Play History and Play personalization are separate controls. Turning off personalization limits use of Google Account information for that personalization; turning off Play History limits what new activity is saved to that history. Neither setting should be treated as a universal tracking or data-deletion control.

How do I review or delete Google Play activity?
Open Google Play Store app → profile picture → Personalization in Play to review Play History and its available controls. Google says you can delete history manually or choose automatic deletion after 3, 18, or 36 months.
Deleting Play History does not remove acquired Play content needed to access purchases and downloads, records held by other enabled features, or data disconnected from your account for service purposes. Does deleting my Play Games profile delete Play History?
No. Google treats Play Games profile activity and Play History as separate data systems. Deleting Play Games data or the full profile does not delete Play History, and deleting Play History does not remove activity retained by the Play Games profile. If you want to remove both, manage each separately using Google’s instructions for deleting Play Games data or a Play Games profile and for managing Play History.

Google’s developer guidance says discovery can take app quality and how users respond to results for a query into account, and that Google may use information it has collected, such as apps a user previously installed, for personalized recommendations. Its App Discovery and Ranking guidance does not publish an accuracy percentage, test results, or a guarantee that a particular recommendation will suit you.

In practical terms, relevance can vary with the account and device information available to Play. Changing personalization settings can change which information Google says it uses, but the documentation does not promise that recommendations will become more or less accurate for an individual.
How can I check what data a recommended game collects?
Open the game’s Google Play listing and review its Data safety section; tap See details for the developer’s disclosure about collection, sharing, handling, and stated purposes, which can include personalization. Google describes Data safety as information supplied by the app developer for apps distributed through Play. It is not an audit of Google Play’s recommendation system and does not replace reviewing the game’s own privacy information. Learn more in Google’s Data safety section guidance.
