Gold and silver do not share one universal weekend schedule. On CME Group’s published NYMEX/COMEX ClearPort schedule, regular trading runs from Sunday at 5:00 p.m. to Friday at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. But CME also offers 24/7 Globex access for its specific 1-Ounce Gold and 100-Ounce Silver futures, subject to maintenance windows. Weekend access depends on the venue and contract.

Why do gold and silver markets close on weekends?

There is no single weekend-closing rule for every gold or silver market. CME’s published schedules show that some products follow a weekly session with a weekend pause, while certain smaller futures contracts are available around the clock except during maintenance windows. The cited CME information establishes these schedules and how weekend trades are processed; it does not give one universal reason for every venue’s weekend pause.

For a regular CME schedule, see the [CME Group holiday and trading-hours calendar]. Hours can vary on holidays, so check the specific contract and date.

When does regular CME gold and silver trading resume?

CME Group’s published NYMEX/COMEX ClearPort hours are Sunday at 5:00 p.m. through Friday at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Under that schedule, trading resumes Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. CT. This is a schedule for the named CME venue and session, not a universal reopening time for retail spot-metal services, every futures contract, or all global bullion markets.

Which CME gold and silver futures can trade on weekends?

CME lists its 1-Ounce Gold and 100-Ounce Silver futures as 24/7 Globex products, subject to maintenance periods. That means the broad claim that all gold and silver futures are closed throughout the weekend is no longer accurate for these specific contracts.

The rollout took place in 2026: CME announced 24/7 trading for 1-Ounce Gold beginning July 24 and said 100-Ounce Silver was planned to begin September 11, subject to regulatory review. CME’s current 24/7 Futures and Options Trading page lists both contracts. CME’s August 11, 2026 release reported that more than 53,000 1-Ounce Gold contracts had traded during expanded weekend sessions since launch, representing approximately $219 million in notional value.

How are weekend trades dated and processed?

Round-the-clock access does not create a separate weekend business-day settlement cycle. CME says trades made over weekends or holidays from Friday evening through Sunday evening receive the next business day’s trade date; clearing, settlement, and regulatory reporting are processed on that business day. The trade can be entered during the weekend even though its official business-day processing follows the stated schedule.

What should you check before relying on a reopening time?

  • Venue and contract: Confirm the exchange and the exact gold or silver product. Do not apply CME’s ClearPort hours to another market or broker’s spot-metal service.
  • Session type: Distinguish the regular weekly schedule from the specific 24/7 Globex contracts.
  • Maintenance: The 24/7 designation is subject to maintenance windows, so it does not mean every moment is available for trading.
  • Holiday date: CME notes that holiday hours may differ and can change. Check its current calendar for the contract and date in question.
  • Time zone: The regular session times above are Central Time; convert them carefully if you are elsewhere.

The available CME schedules do not establish a single weekend timetable for retail brokers’ spot products, the London bullion market, or every exchange worldwide. For those services, use the provider’s own current schedule.
