That makes platform load one possible explanation for a late or missing run, but the title alone cannot establish the cause of a particular 30-night pattern. Check the run history, schedule minute, branch, workflow status, and time-zone settings before drawing a conclusion.
First, distinguish a late run from a missing run
Open the repository’s Actions tab and inspect the workflow’s run history. Compare the expected schedule time with the time a run was created and started, and note any dates with no corresponding run. This helps distinguish a delayed event from one that was never triggered or was disabled. The title provides no run IDs, timestamps, or logs, so the reported pattern cannot be independently verified from it.
GitHub’s troubleshooting documentation confirms that scheduled events can be delayed during high-load periods. It identifies the start of every hour as a high-load time and says that, if load is sufficiently high, some queued jobs may be dropped. GitHub does not publish a delay or dropped-run rate in the cited guidance, so these statements do not quantify the likelihood of either outcome. GitHub Docs: Troubleshooting workflows
Reduce exposure to the top of the hour
If the cron expression runs at minute 0, change it to a different minute within the hour. GitHub specifically recommends this to decrease the chance of delay. It is a risk-reduction measure, not a guarantee that a run will start exactly on time or that delays will never occur.

For example, a schedule of 0 2 * * * runs at 02:00 UTC by default. Changing it to 17 2 * * * schedules it for 02:17 UTC. These examples use GitHub’s default UTC time zone; confirm the configured time zone before applying them to a local-time schedule.
Verify the workflow is eligible to run
Confirm the file is on the default branch
A scheduled workflow runs only when its workflow file is on the repository’s default branch, and the run uses the latest commit on that branch. A schedule or YAML change present only on another branch will not make that branch’s version run. Check the repository’s current default branch and the workflow file there. Check whether the workflow was disabled
GitHub’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking whether the workflow was manually disabled. Also check repository visibility and activity: scheduled workflows in public repositories are automatically disabled after 60 days without repository activity. Check cron syntax and time-zone assumptions
GitHub Actions schedules use POSIX cron. Schedules default to UTC, can specify an IANA time zone, and cannot run more often than once every five minutes. Verify that the expression and time zone in the default-branch workflow match the intended schedule. GitHub Docs: Workflow syntax

If the configured time zone observes daylight saving time, a scheduled time that falls in an hour skipped during the spring-forward transition advances to the next valid time. A run that appears to have skipped its usual local clock time may therefore reflect the time-zone transition rather than a recurring failure.

- The workflow YAML as it exists on the default branch, including the cron expression and any configured time zone.
- The repository’s default branch, visibility, and relevant activity history.
- The expected schedule time and time zone.
- Actions run history showing actual run times and dates with no run.
- Relevant available workflow logs and any evidence of manual disablement.
Those records can support a more specific diagnosis. Without them, GitHub’s documentation establishes that load-related delays and dropped queued jobs are possible, but not that load caused the pattern described in the title.
