Yes. A first-time deposit through Xaman’s Flare XRPFi Yield xApp can leave you with less native XRP than you started with, even after a year of positive vault returns. That can happen because the round trip includes percentage fees and, for a first-time user, a fixed 2 XRP setup charge that weighs heavily on a small deposit.
How does earning XRP yield through Xaman work?
Xaman’s Flare XRPFi Yield xApp routes XRP through Flare and into the earnXRP vault; the balance shown during that process is not simply native XRP sitting in an XRPL account.
- Xaman sends native XRP to an XRPL account secured through Flare.
- A Flare smart contract issues FXRP, a 1:1 representation of XRP on Flare.
- FXRP is deposited into the earnXRP vault, and the depositor receives earnXRP receipt tokens.
- Upshift infrastructure and Clearstar’s strategy management deploy and rebalance the vault across on-chain strategies. Returns compound in XRP terms.
- To exit, the receipt tokens are burned and FXRP is returned. The holder must then complete redemption to receive native XRP.
Xaman said in its product announcement that “The signing stays in Xaman. The custody stays with the user.” That describes who controls signing; it does not mean the assets remain on the XRPL throughout the yield process or remove the risks introduced by Flare and the vault.

What fees can reduce the XRP you get back?
The round-trip cost is a stack of charges, not just the vault’s management fee. The following figures are the fees and assumptions used in CryptoSlate’s route model, except where noted.

The modeled percentages and setup charge should not be treated as a universal quote: the minting, setup and redemption figures describe CryptoSlate’s route assumptions. Check the charges presented in the app and current protocol information before committing funds. The 0.5% service fee is separate from the other modeled costs.
Can a deposit end below its starting balance?
Yes. In CryptoSlate’s illustration, a first-time 100 XRP deposit would be worth about 98.28 XRP after six months and 99.38 XRP after 12 months, despite the model assuming positive returns.

These are conditional model outputs, not forecasts. They assume a constant 2.25% effective annual return and a successful redemption. The model excludes additional network costs, instant-exit premiums, taxes, slippage, reward-conversion delays and losses. In particular, a shorter modeled break-even period for a larger deposit reflects how a fixed 2 XRP charge is diluted; it does not establish that a larger deposit is safer.

What does the current yield tell you?
APY is variable and dated readings should not be blended into a single promise. CryptoSlate reported a trailing 30-day Total APY of 1.18% for Clearstar’s earnXRP vault on October 21, 2026, alongside a 0.75% management fee; its reported APY included discounted vested rFLR rewards.
Upshift’s guide reported about 1.6% annualised since January 2026 and rolling 30-day returns of roughly 0.2% to 5.3%, while its September 29, 2026 snapshot showed about 1.0% trailing APY. Upshift’s later live dashboard reading was 0.97% over 30 days. These figures cover different dates and may reflect different windows or reward treatment, so use the live vault display for a current snapshot and check what its APY includes.
At a hypothetical constant 1.18% effective annual return, CryptoSlate’s sensitivity calculation puts first-use break-even at about 29.1 months for 100 XRP and 8.5 months for 10,000 XRP. That calculation is conditional, not a forecast: actual returns and exit conditions can change.

How long can withdrawal take, and what risks remain?
A displayed vault balance does not guarantee immediate access to native XRP. Flare says a standard withdrawal can take up to 72 hours and describes an optional instant-redemption fee; Upshift also describes queued withdrawals and an instant path subject to liquidity.

How should you judge whether the round trip paid off?
Use the amount of native XRP received after the withdrawal and redemption have fully completed—not a vault display, FXRP balance or unconverted reward balance. Compare that amount with every XRP committed to the route, accounting for each applicable fee once.

- Record the native XRP sent in and the native XRP received at the end.
- Keep rewards that have not been converted to redeemable XRP separate from the received balance.
- Include any setup, deposit, minting, redemption, network or instant-exit charges that applied to your transaction.
- Consider the waiting period and any liquidity limits as part of the exit cost, not just the quoted APY.
If your goal is to end with more native XRP, the useful result is the completed round-trip balance, not a positive percentage displayed before fees and redemption.

Is FXRP the same thing as native XRP?
No. FXRP is a Flare representation of XRP issued through a smart contract, while native XRP is on the XRP Ledger. The route requires redemption from FXRP to native XRP before the assets are back in the form you originally deposited.
Do earnXRP rewards arrive as XRP automatically?
The available material describes returns compounding in XRP terms, but also notes that APY snapshots may include discounted vested rFLR rewards and that reward-conversion delays can affect results. Check the vault’s reward details and your actual redemption output rather than assuming every displayed reward is immediately withdrawable as native XRP.

Can I avoid the first-time setup charge by making several smaller deposits?
The model describes a one-time 2 XRP setup charge for first-time setup, not a fee assessed on every deposit. Whether later deposits avoid it depends on account state and the app’s current transaction flow; confirm the amount shown before approving each transaction.
Why might my actual result differ from the modeled 100 XRP example?
The illustration assumes a constant effective return and excludes several possible costs and losses, including taxes, slippage, extra network fees, instant-exit premiums and reward-conversion delays. Your deposit timing, realized vault returns, exit route and applicable transaction charges can therefore produce a different native-XRP total.
