HLTV described him as appearing on “roughly every third team”—an approximation, not an exact selection rate or count.
What the popularity report says
The report covers HLTV Fantasy for the EPL Season 24 group stage, not a general popularity poll or donk’s real-world compensation. HLTV’s article, by Dimitrii and Nohte, calls him the second-most-picked player in that game at the stated $250,000 Fantasy price. Its “roughly every third team” description does not provide an exact percentage, number of teams, or calculation method. Read HLTV’s report.
Why a high-priced player can still attract picks
HLTV’s explanation is about the trade-off Fantasy players face: donk tends to bring many points to those who pick him, particularly in a group stage, but his high in-game price can make it harder to build a worthwhile roster around him. The article presents that as a choice for each participant, not a guaranteed optimal strategy or promise of points.
Event format and roster context
HLTV described the EPL S24 group stage as a 16-team Swiss event, with every match played best-of-three. The teams listed were Spirit, Vitality, FURIA, MOUZ, Falcons, Legacy, G2, Aurora, Natus Vincere, BETBOOM, 9z, PARIVISION, M80, TYLOO, 1win, and ShindeN. These details apply to this event’s group-stage Fantasy game.

The article also noted that Legacy would play with bobz instead of arT. It said the playoff Fantasy game would be published after the group stage concluded, so the group-stage player popularity figures should not be treated as playoff selections.
The budget-player example is a risk, not a recommendation
As a possible budget piece, HLTV pointed to karrigan as the cheapest player from a top contender team. It also cited his 0.81 three-month average rating as a reason to consider the risk of negative points even in wins. That is the article’s roster observation, not a verified scoring forecast or universal recommendation; it does not provide a complete player comparison or a ready-made roster.

What the prizes were
The article associated the game with season points and sponsored digital Counter-Strike skins, naming Hellcase as the prize sponsor. Those are Fantasy-related rewards, not a physical-product recommendation.
