Start by checking Wirecast’s Live Broadcast Area. If the overlay is already missing there after a playlist change, the likely issue is how the graphic is arranged across Wirecast shots and layers: an overlay in one video shot’s Shot Layers is attached to that shot, while a different playlist video may be a different shot. For a graphic that should stay visible across clips, place it on its own Main Shot Display layer above the video layer and keep that layer live. This is a troubleshooting inference, not a confirmed diagnosis of your specific project.
First, find where the overlay disappears
Compare Wirecast’s Live Broadcast Area with the stream received by YouTube. This separates a composition problem inside Wirecast from a problem later in the output path.
- Missing in Wirecast Live: Check which shot or layer contains the graphic, whether its layer is live, and its stacking order.
- Visible in Wirecast Live but absent on YouTube: Investigate the output or connection path separately. The available documentation does not establish a specific YouTube-side cause for this symptom.
Wirecast’s encoder sends the live output to YouTube; YouTube’s instructions say to enter its Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. That context does not, by itself, explain a graphic disappearing only when a playlist changes. YouTube Help: Live streaming with an encoder.
Why changing playlist videos can remove a graphic
Telestream’s Wirecast 16.3 Windows guide treats switching to a playlist as ordinary shot switching. A graphic in a video shot’s Shot Layers is part of that shot’s contained composite. Telestream says those layers appear whenever their associated shot is switched. If the playlist advances to a different video shot, the first shot’s graphic may no longer be part of the live composition.

Wirecast can combine shots selected across layers in Live. The guide describes layer 1 as the top layer and layer 5 as the bottom layer, so a graphic can also seem to vanish if it is no longer live or is covered by a higher layer. The exact cause depends on your project’s layer assignment and Wirecast version.
Choose the right layer arrangement

Check the live state and test a switch
- Locate the graphic. Identify whether it is in the current video shot’s Shot Layers or on a separate Main Shot Display layer. If it is meant to persist, place it on its own Main Shot Display layer above the video layer.
- Check how your project takes shots live. With AutoLive on, selecting a shot sends it live. With AutoLive off, select the intended shot or layered combination in Preview and click Go.
- Confirm the graphic is live, not just in Preview. Verify that its layer remains active after the playlist advances and that it is stacked above the video.
- Run a controlled check before the next broadcast. In the same project, watch the Live Broadcast Area while switching between two playlist clips. Note whether the overlay disappears inside Wirecast or only in the stream received by YouTube.
Wirecast controls can differ by version and operating system. The switching behavior above comes from Telestream’s Wirecast 16.3 Windows User Guide, Live Broadcast Production section, pages 107–108; check your installed release for the matching control labels.
If you use a Singular.live graphic
As an additional check specific to Singular.live, its Wirecast integration guidance says to take the overlay on-air and ensure its Wirecast layer is above the video layers. This is relevant only if Singular.live is your graphics source; it is not a general fix for other overlay sources. Singular.live help.
