If a Chrome full-page screenshot repeats content, one possible clue is its height: a Chromium bug report describes output from Page.captureScreenshot larger than 8,192 pixels repeating the top-left corner beyond that point. That report does not establish that the same bug affects current Chrome or every full-page capture. A changing page, or a difference in the capture method, may also matter.
What can cause repeated content in a full-page screenshot?
There is no single confirmed cause for every case. Start by noting where the repetition begins and how the image was made. A consistent height boundary points to a different line of investigation than content that moves or repaints while the page is being captured.
A possible height-related capture problem
A Chromium issue report says that using the DevTools Protocol command Page.captureScreenshot to produce images larger than 8,192 pixels gave corrupted output: everything beyond that height repeated the top-left corner. This is a report about a particular failure, not proof that it explains a current screenshot or that all Chrome full-page captures use the same path. The issue’s current status is not established by the available record. Read the Chromium issue.
The page may change while it is captured
Dynamic content can shift position or repaint during inspection. Chrome’s Rendering panel includes Layout Shift Regions and Paint flashing, which help show movement and repainting; they do not by themselves prove that either caused a particular corrupted screenshot. Sticky headers, infinite scrolling, or independently scrolling regions are reasonable things to check if the symptom appears tied to scrolling or to one site. They are not confirmed causes in the evidence available here.
First identify how the screenshot was captured
Chrome DevTools distinguishes an ordinary screenshot of the visible viewport from its “Capture a full size screenshot” command, which captures beyond the viewport. An extension or automation client may use a different workflow. The existence of the protocol command Page.captureScreenshot does not prove that a particular extension or DevTools menu action uses it in the same way.
Chrome documents the full-size screenshot command in its screenshots guide. The DevTools Protocol reference documents Page.captureScreenshot.

How to narrow down the cause
- Record the capture details. Note the Chrome version, operating system, page URL, image dimensions, and the exact menu command, extension, or automation client used. Also note whether the page scrolls or loads content dynamically.
- Try DevTools’ built-in full-size capture. Open DevTools, use its “Capture a full size screenshot” command, and check whether the same content repeats and whether it begins at a consistent image height.
- Compare capture methods separately. If the original image came from an extension or script, compare it with DevTools’ built-in command. A difference can help isolate the capture path; it does not alone identify a specific bug.
- Inspect page movement and repaints. In DevTools, open the Rendering panel and enable Layout Shift Regions and Paint flashing. Watch whether the page moves or repaints. If it does, try another capture after the page has settled and compare the result. This is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed fix.
- Check for a height boundary. If the duplicated area begins at a stable height near 8,192 pixels, include that measurement and the capture method when reporting the problem. The historical issue makes the threshold a useful clue, not a diagnosis.
- Compare other pages if practical. If the issue appears only on one site, note whether its content changes during scrolling or sits in independently scrolling areas. Treat these as possibilities to investigate rather than established causes.
What to include in a bug report
A useful report lets someone distinguish a page-specific change from a capture-path or height-related failure. Include:

- The affected page URL, if it can be shared.
- The screenshot’s pixel dimensions and where repetition begins.
- The exact capture command or the extension or automation tool used.
- Whether the problem also happens with DevTools’ built-in full-size screenshot.
- Whether the page was moving, loading content, or repainting during capture.
Do not assume that updating Chrome will resolve the issue: the historical Chromium report does not establish the status of the bug in current releases.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 8,192-pixel Chromium report prove that current Chrome has this bug?
No. It documents a reported failure for protocol captures above that height, but does not establish whether it is fixed or whether it affects the current built-in full-size screenshot command.
